18 valores”; “Muito Bom com Louvor e Distinção”; top 1% score) in September 1984.
PhD equivalent (Doutoramento) in Pharmacology and Medicine at the Universidade
Clássica de Lisboa with Honors (“Louvor e Distinção”) in 1999.

Obtained the Degree of Specialist in Clinical Pharmacology in Portugal (September

Basic Cardiovascular Research on endothelial function: 1) Center for Experimental
Therapeutics, Baylor College of medicine (Mentor: Paul M. Vanhoutte); 2) University
of Colorado (Mentor: Robert W. Schrier). During these periods participated in the
evaluation and follow up of numerous patients enrolled in clinical trials.
Presented numerous posters and oral presentations as well as conferences both in
Portugal and abroad, namely in USA, Brazil, Spain, Singapore, Sweden, India, Angola,
Mozambique
Some publications in the JASN, KI and other relevant peer-reviewed journals.
Participation in several clinical trials on immunosupressants (ex: Rapamune 4337 trial)
as well as trials related to the use of sevelamer, darbepoietin and cinacalcet. Currently,
principal investigator at one site of the EVOLVE trial on cinacalcet impact on
cardiovascular events. Co-author in the related article at the New Engl J Med.
Postgraduate Course on Economic Evaluation of Medicines by the “Instituto Superior
de Economia e Gestão” and the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lisbon (2006)
Member of the Therapeutics and Pharmacology Committee of Hospital S. Cruz and of
the Centro Hospitalar de Lisboa Ocidental from 2007 until February 2014.
Organizer of the 1st and 2nd Conferences for the ISN COMGAN/Global Outreach
Conference on the Prevention of Renal and Cardiovascular Diseases in Luanda, Angola
respectively in November 2006 and in June 2010 (the latter included in the First
Congress of the Angolan Society of Nephrology. Participated in October 2011 in the
ISN GO CMEs in Maputo, Mozambique and Lusaka, Zambia, giving 3 conferences in
each. Participation at the CME in Kinshasa, Congo in Deceember 2013 (giving 4
conferences in French).

1) Senior Nephrologist (Assistente Graduado) at the Hospital de Santa Cruz
/Centro Hospitalar de Lisboa Ocidental (C.H.L.O.), Lisbon
2) Assistant Professor of Pharmacology, University of Lisbon
3) Medical Director of the Eurodial, Gaeiras/Óbidos, dialysis center (with about
170 patients undergoing chronic hemodialysis)
4) Davita's Clinical Medical Officer (CMO) for Portugal since August 2013.
5) Member of the International Society of Nephrology Commission for Global
Advancment of Nephrology/Global Outreach (ISN GO), Portuguese Society
Tranplantation (SPT), Portuguese Society of Nephrology (SPN), American
Society of Nephrology (ASN) and Associação Brasileira de Transplante de
Orgãos (ABTO).
6) Member of the Direction of the Portuguese Society of Transplantation (“Vogal
