Portimão was the cradle of golf in the Algarve. This was where the first fairways
and greens appeared, on the first golf course, built amid the dunes between
the banks of the River Arade and the beach. Nowadays, with its four golf

Caracterizado por dois grandes lagos rodeados
por uma paisagem única e vistas espectaculares
para a Serra de Monchique, o Álamos revela-se
como o campo gémeo, a norte do “Morgado”,
integrado numa paisagem intocada e típica.
Inaugurado recentemente apresenta características
maduras e bem diferentes do “Morgado”
proporcionando uma variedade de buracos e um
design estratégico. A acentuada ondulação dos
fairways e dos greens são um teste bastante
exigente. O percurso tem menos obstáculos de
areia do que o Morgado, mas não carece de
versatilidade. Não se deixe iludir, as características
do terreno e das árvores, que por vezes entram
subtilmente em jogo sem que o jogador se
aperceba, conjugados com os greens mais difíceis
da região de Portimão, fazem com que os 5.641
metros de distância, par 71, tenham de ser
conquistados com uma pancada bem pensada de
cada vez.
Characterised by two large lakes surrounded by
an unique peaceful setting and great views of the
Monchique Mountains, Golfe dos Álamos reveals
itself as the recently developed north course of
Morgado, just a short drive north of Portimão, in
the sunny Algarve. Set beside its sister course
“Morgado” in a beautifully rolling landscape, Álamos
provides a delightful variety of holes and a strategic
design. It has some tightly undulating fairways and
greens with testing slopes. Whilst the course is not
as long as Morgado, it presents fewer obstacles
and features half the number of bunkers. But do
not be deceived, because it has been cleverly
protected with trees coming into play and probably
the toughest green in the Portimão area. At 5.641
metres, par 71, and with a varied landscape, the
course runs next to two large lakes, through wide
valleys and offers superb views of an untouched
and typical Algarve landscape.

Após uma confortável introdução ao jogo no par 4 de
abertura o percurso exige um drive longo que rola em
direcção a um lago lateral que à primeira vista não entra
imediatamente em jogo. É necessário um grande
repertório de pancadas para atingir um bom resultado
neste lindo percurso, com fairways ondulados e greens
que apresentam contornos difíceis. O seu ambiente
tranquilo e beleza natural atrai inúmeros visitantes que
regressam todos os anos. Não exibe qualquer buraco
espectacular de assinatura mas revela uma deliciosa
variedade e inteligente combinação que contribui
significativamente para a popularidade crescente do
campo dos Álamos.
After a comfortable introduction on a rather short tee
shot of the par 4 opening hole, the layout demands a
blind tee shot on the following par 5 to cope with sloping
fairway, along a lateral lake on the right side, which needs
to be carried on the approach shot. A great variety of
shots are necessary to score well on this hidden gem.
Its peaceful setting and natural beauty attracts many
visitors to return every year. It does not boast any
spectacular signature hole, but it reveals a delightful
variety and smart combination which contributes
significantly to Álamos’ increasing popularity.

O Morgado foi inaugurado no ano de 2003 mas já
é um campo com um nome firmado. Localizado
a Norte de Portimão estende-se entre os pequenos
vales e áreas nobres da herdade do Morgado do
Reguengo. Os factores mais característicos do
percurso são os greens generosos, que exigem
grande perícia na leitura e execução dos putts, bem
com o elevado número de obstáculos de areia
profundos, típico apenas em campos links,
protegendo os greens e fairways de forma bastante
eficaz. Um percurso complementar foi recentemente
inaugurado junto ao Morgado (Álamos Golf ),
proporcionando aos golfistas uma variedade de
buracos ainda melhor e uma experiência bastante
agradável. A Clubhouse, com a sua arquitectura
sóbria e áreas sociais espaçosas, exibe uma vista
panorâmica sobre o campo a partir do terraço sul,
com vista para o driving range e doze dos dezoito
buracos. A uma distância de 6399 metros, o par 73
é um dos verdadeiros campos championship na
região.
Morgado was opened in the year 2003, but is
already a wonderfully established course, next to
Álamos. Located in the north of the modern and
dynamic Portimão city, it is laid out in a “grand
estate” through undulating small valleys. As an
immediate main characteristic factor we are
acquainted with its generous greens which place
demand on sophisticated putting skills. Also, the
accuracy of the player's shot will be questioned
by deep, aggressive and links type bunkers.
A further and beautifully complementing 18 hole
course adjacent to Morgado (Álamos) has been
added to offer an even greater golf experience.
The Clubhouse, with its sober architecture and
spacious social areas, boasts a panoramic view
from the south terrace over the course, overlooking
the entire driving range and twelve of the eighteen
holes. At a 6,399 metres distance, the par 73, is one
of the true championship courses in the region.

Nos primeiros nove buracos o campo apresenta uma área
bastante plana, protegida por uma colocação de bunkers
estrategicamente dispostos e abundantes obstáculos de
água que engolem os lances mal executados, na maior
parte das vezes à esquerda do fairway. Os segundos nove
buracos apresentam um contraste, com um terreno mais
ondulado, mais desníveis, torna-se mais complicado o
cálculo das distâncias ao alvo. O finish dos últimos 3
buracos é verdadeiramente extraordinário. Antes de
abandonar o tee do 18, desfrute da tranquilidade da
paisagem envolvente. Tenha atenção aos bunkers laterais
no fairway que apontam o caminho certo para o green
final e o bastante frequentado buraco 19.
The rather flat opening front nine are protected by
intelligent bunkering and plenty of water hazards, which
swallow erratic shots to the left on some of the holes. The
contrasting back nine are a little bit more hilly and tougher
to walk. Before you leave the 18th tee, take a moment to
look around and enjoy the view of the surrounding
countryside. Deep bunkers protect both sides of the
fairway, leading home to a large green and the beloved
19th hole.

O Penina Championship Golf Course é um clássico no
Algarve. O percurso foi desenhado pelo famoso Sir Henry
Cotton, vencedor do British Open em 1934, 1937 e 1948,
e tem de facto um toque de génio, uma obra-prima
pela qual Cotton deseja ser lembrado. Localizado ao
lado do luxuoso Hotel Penina, o percurso é apoiado
pelos 9 buracos do Resort e os 9 buracos do Academy
que libertam o Championship dos handicaps mais altos,
oferecendo uma fluência de jogo agradável. O campo
apresenta características parkland bem britânicas, dotado
com milhares de eucaliptos e inúmeras palmeiras.
O Penina foi inaugurado em 1966 e foi o primeiro campo
de golfe de 18 buracos do Algarve. Entrou para a história
do golfe nacional com a organização de 9 Opens de
Portugal, 5 deles decorreram depois de 1998. O grande
desafio durante a sua construção foi converter os campos
de arroz num dos percursos de golfe mais famosos da
Europa. Com a plantação de meio milhão de árvores,
arbustos e uma enorme variedade de espécies de flores,
foi colocada uma perfeita moldura à volta dos 18 buracos
do Championship. A sua combinação entre buracos de
média distância e buracos longos, cujos fairways e green
estão protegidos por inúmeros lagos e bunkers
estratégicos, tornam o Penina bastante versátil e exigente.
O buraco mais famoso do percurso é o longo 13, um
par-3 com um enorme lago lateral à direita que se
estende até junto do green. O buraco 13 foi qualificado
entre os 500 melhores buracos de golfe do mundo.
The Penina Championship Course is a classic
highlight. This parkland course was designed by
the late Sir Henry Cotton, winner of the British
Open in 1934, 1937 and 1948, and is in fact his
masterpiece for which he wishes to be
remembered. Located at the 5 star Penina Hotel,
the course is playable by all standards of players.
Almost every hole is lined with trees and is a very
lush green and aside from the odd palm tree, you
would think that you were in the UK playing a
British Country Golf Course. Penina was actually
the first 18-hole golf course in the Algarve, created
in 1966. Since then it has had a famous history,
playing host to the Portuguese Open no less than
9 times, five of those have been since 1998. The
course is on the ground that was in fact originally
rice growing fields. The conversion was brought
around with the help of just under half a million
shrubs and trees, which results in a flat but
challenging course. The course has a good mix of
long and short holes with numerous streams and
lakes flowing through the grounds ready to snap
up erratic shots. Probably the most renowned hole
is the par-3 13th which has been ranked within the
top 500 holes worldwide. All in all the Penina
Championship Course is a 5-star venue located
within the grounds of a 5-star hotel.

Após um par 4 exigente, o famoso par-13 está classificado
entre os melhores buracos do mundo inteiro. Mas o Penina
Championship oferece muitos buracos memoráveis.
O principal desafio do jogador consiste em manter-se
afastado de meio milhão de arbustos e árvores plantadas,
como milhares de eucaliptos altos existentes ao longo
dos fairways. Logo no segundo buraco temos a opção
entre uma pancada de aproximação cautelosa ou um
corajoso ataque ao green com a segunda pancada.
O buraco 18, um longo par-5 com vista para o Hotel, ficou
na história do European Tour, quando o escocês Garry
Orr venceu pela primeira vez na alta competição, quando
executou um magnífico eagle 3, atingindo o green com
um ferro 2 longo e preciso para passar à frente de Phillip
Price e vencer o Open de Portugal no ano 2000. Eis o seu
desafio…

Many players remember the par-3 13th, which is ranked
among the best holes worldwide. But this true
championship course offers many memorable holes. The
main challenge is to keep away from half a million planted
shrubs and trees, like thousands of high eucalyptus trees
bordering the fairway. Strategically placed bunkers and
lakes await the long hitters. The par-5 18th will always be
remembered as the hole where Scotland’s Garry Orr finally
made his breakthrough, winning his first European Tour
title, when he produced a magnificent eagle three, hitting
the green with a heroic two iron shot to overhaul Phillip
Price and win the Portuguese Open in the year 2000. You
are most welcome to dare and try...

O Alto Golf localiza-se entre a pitoresca vila de
Alvor à beira-mar e a Praia da Rocha . O percurso
é da autoria do lendário arquitecto de campos de
golfe Sir Henry Cotton, e apresenta fairways por
vezes bastante inclinados e greens elevados, que
proporcionam uma experiência memorável. Cotton
recorreu a um design clássico ao transcrever um
8, que permite ao jogador passar pela clubhouse
no final de cada sequência de nove buracos, em
que a brisa do mar influencia o jogo em todas as
direcções e se revela como uma excelente
abordagem estratégica. Este campo proporciona
uma experiência completa com uma clubhouse
totalmente equipada, um driving range de
vanguarda e uma academia de golfe.
A tendência dos jogadores é subestimarem os
curtos par 3 nos segundos 9. Logo a seguir ao
curto buraco 12 seguem-se 3 buracos par 4 bem
diferentes, antes do grande desafio do campo, o
gigantesco 16. A excelente localização do campo,
a sua proximidade a lindíssimas praias, a inúmeros
restaurantes típicos, hotéis e bares fazem do Alto
Golf um campo bastante frequentado.
Alto Golf is located between the picturesque
seaside village of Alvor and the bustling hotels of
Portimão city and Praia da Rocha. Alto Golf was

Sir Henry Cotton. The rolling fairways and elevated

designed a classic 8 to integrate the permanent
prevailing sea breeze from all directions into play
and combining challenging parkland golf with his

state-of-the-art driving range and a PGA

package. Do not be deceived by the rather short
par 3 holes on the back nine, because no hole is
short enough not to be taken seriously. Nearby we

O Alto Golf é famoso pelo seu gigantesco buraco 16 –
um dos mais compridos par 5 do mundo com uns
intimidantes 604 metros de comprimento – protegido
por um lago lateral que alerta logo no ponto de saída
que o jogador se confronta com uma tarefa bem
complicada! Os faiways são parcialmente estreitos, dotados
de árvores bem altas em ambos os flancos e inclinações
acentuadas. É prudente não optar sempre pelo driver nos
tees, porque com o vento a favor é possível uma melhor
colocação da bola resultando numa pancada mais longa.
São raros os golfistas que conseguem dominar a batalha
estratégica do Alto Golf. A ondulação acentuada de alguns
greens transforma facilmente um par julgado garantido
num derradeiro bogey...
Alto Golf is famous for its giant 16th – intimidating 604
metres long – features a lake on the left. The narrow
fairways, dotted with old trees on both flanks, slopes
towards it. There seems no realistic landing area. If you
get a satisfactory drive on the sloping fairway, it is still a
long, but fairly straight way to the pin to battle with.
