José António Afonso (Segovia, Spain, 1957), Licensed in History (FL
UPorto), Master of Science in Education (FPSC of UPorto) and Doctor of
Education (University of Minho). Professor at the Institute of Education and
Researcher in CIED (Centre for Educational Research), University of Minho.
Research that develops focuses on the History of Education in the areas of
social movements, institutional devices, the discursive practices and processes
of secularization and laicization in Portuguese society. Among the publications
include the books: Protestantismo e Educação. História de um projecto
pedagógico alternativo em Portugal na transição do séc. XIX (2009) and
Paróquia de Cristo e Colégio Evangélico Lusitano. Um século de testemunho

Alessandra Avanzini (San Secondo-Pr, 1967), is PhD in Pedagogy and coeditor of the series «LINEE» (studies on literature for children and young
adults), published in Milan by Franco Angeli. She is currently curating the
project A.LI.C.E.E. (Analysing Literature for Young Adults and Children in
Europe and Elsewhere), whose first volume - on children’s literature from
Italy, Denmark, France, the United Kingdom and Portugal (1945-2012) - was
published in 2013. Her area of research also includes an in-depth analysis of
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. At present she teaches
Pedagogy, History of Pedagogy and Didactics at the Universities of Milan,
Parma, Ferrara.

Luciana Bellatalla (Pisa, 1949), è Professore ordinario di Storia della
Pedagogia e docente di Storia della scuola e dell’educazione all’Università
degli Studi di Ferrara. È attualmente membro dei Consigli Direttivi della
SPICAE (Sodalitas Pro Investigatione Comparata Adhaesa Educationi), della
SPES e del CIRSE (Centro Italiano per la Ricerca Storico Educativa). Le sue
principali linee di ricerca riguardano il pragmatismo americano, con particolare
riguardo a John Dewey, la relazione tra epistemologia e storiografia
pedagogica ed il tema della narratività. Fra le sue opere recenti: Leggere
l’educazione oltre il fenomeno (Roma, 2009); Scuola secondaria. Struttura e
saperi (Trento, 2010); Leggere all’infinito (in coll. con D. Bettini, Milano,
2010); L’insegnante tra realtà ed utopia (a cura di, Roma, 2011).

Carmen Betti è professore ordinario di Storia della Pedagogia presso il
Dipartimento di Scienze della formazione e Psicologia dell'Università di
Firenze ed è attualmente Segretario-Tesoriere del CIRSE. La sua ricerca
decennale nei campi della storia della pedagogia e dell'educazione ha favorito
alcuni itinerari che sono ricomparsi nel tempo, diventando sempre più elaborati
e complessi. In particolare, si possono individuare i temi dell'ideologia;
l'organizzazione del tempo libero dei giovani durante il periodo fascista;
l'insegnamento della religione; l'evoluzione del sistema scolastico italiano; e
poi l'editoria scolastica e pedagogica dal XIX fino al tardo XX secolo.

Giovanni Genovesi – (Cinigiano-GR, 1941), già docente di Pedagogia
generale all’Università di Ferrara, è co-fondatore e presidente onorario del
CIRSE (Centro Italiano di Ricerca Storico-Educativa), co-fondatore e
coordinatore centrale della SPICAE, presidente della SPES (Società di Politica,
Educazione e Storia), dirige la rivista “Ricerche Pedagogiche”. Fra le sue opere

Iveta Ķestere (Riga, Latvia, 1960) is an historian of education and chief
researcher at the Institute of Educational Sciences, University of Latvia. She
has taught courses including the History of Pedagogy, Pedagogical Ideas in the
20th Century, Historical Sources in Pedagogical Research, Educational
Sciences: Historical Perspective and The Historical and Modern Image of the
Teacher in the bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programs. She is the author of
more than 60 articles and the author or co-editor of nine books in the history of
education (e.g., co-editor of the History of Education and Pedagogical Thought
in the Baltic Countries up to 1940: an Overview published in 2009; the History
of Pedagogy and Educational Sciences in the Baltic Countries from 1940 to
1990: an Overview published in 2013; the Visual Image of the Teacher:
International Comparative Perspectives published in 2012). She is a member
of the Executive Committee of ISCHE and the Board member of the Baltic
Association of the Historians of Pedagogy. Her academic interests include
research methodology for the history of education, education in the Soviet
Union, the history of educational sciences, and the history of the teaching
profession. She speaks Latvian (native language), Russian, English and
German.

Monika Knaupp is a research assistant and doctoral student at FriedrichAlexander-Universität Erlangen- Nürnberg (FAU), Department of Education.
She has studied German and Italian Literature and History of Arts at the
University of Heidelberg. She is a member of DGfE and of EERA; she has
participated at the ECER 2011 in Berlin. At the moment, she is doing her
doctoral thesis in Italian educational scholarly journals. Her fields of
investigation are: educational research in Italy, and German children’s
literature.

Joaquim António de Sousa Pintassilgo (Loulé - Portugal, 1956) has a
PhD in History from the University of Salamanca, Spain (1996). He is
currently Associate Professor at the Institute of Education, University of
Lisbon. He is the author and co-author of several works, especially in the field
of History of Education, such as República e formação de cidadãos (1998);
História da escola em Portugal e no Brasil: circulação e apropriação de
modelos culturais (2006); A História da Educação em Portugal: balanço e
perspectivas (2007); A Escola Normal de Lisboa e a formação de professores:
