Called to Bear Fruit
BIBLE VERSE
“In the same way a Christian is not a man who never goes wrong, but a man is
enabled to repent and pick himself up and begin over again after each stumble-because the Christ-life is inside him, repairing him all the time, enabling him to
repeat (in some degree) the kind of voluntary death which Christ Himself carried
out." C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity
If we do not feel challenged in our Christian walk in some way or another we really
need to stop and take our eyes off whatever has crowded our life and ask ourselves
the tough question “am I merely existing or do I see a God-plan in my life?”
Unwittingly we have let the conditions of the soil as in the parable take root in our
lives and many of us fall between the category of - seed that fell on rocky ground
and thorny ground! We can fill ourselves with knowledge and know much about
the Bible, and Christianity but if it does challenge us to be more like Jesus and build
the body it is as Paul says a 'resounding gong or a clanging cymbal' The seed that
fell on rocky ground took root but it just could not sustain itself as the sun scorched
it and it withered away – no fruit- no heart change only a surface cosmetic change.
Similarly the seed that fell on thorny ground got choked by the thistle and weeds –
no fruit- the things of this world took precedence over the things of the kingdom.
If we are to produce fruit it is essential that we are sincere with God and open to
His call. If a patient does not acknowledge his illness there is little a doctor can do
to help him cure it! Here's a scary thought “Satan loves church”! Here's why – as
long as Christians come together spend a few hours together, smile and say 'praise
the lord' to each other and just a few actually praise the Lord go home and may be
have a small group bible study and do nothing about it, come back next week and
do it all over again – well that's a good way to keep them quiet. The rest of the
week he knows how to keep you busy with work, children and building the dream
home!
Are we willing to acknowledge our malady and say “yes, I need help Lord” We are
living in an interesting time of history and God is looking for 'game changers' who
are willing to be fools for Christ. David picked up those stones, against a giant, that
was stupid! Abraham put Isaac on the altar- no wonder he is called the 'father of
faith', Moses was asked to stretch forth his rod over the Red Sea, Elijah asked to
pour water on the sacrifice, you just got to be cuckoo to ignite a fire with water!
Ananias go pray for this Saul! Lord how about I just call a bolt of lightning to strike
him dead instead? This guy has the authority to throw me in jail! They were all
willing to see things in the spiritual and God did the rest.

‘God opportunities’ are all around us, all we need to do is be sensitive to what God the Holy Spirit is doing, be among the people
of God, pray for God's will to be done and “let our light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify God in
heaven.
Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death. Prov. 11:4 (NASB)
A. W Tozer in his book 'Jesus the Victor' says-:
There is no limit to what God could do in our world if we would dare to surrender before Him with a commitment like this: Oh
God, I hereby give myself to You. I give my family. I give my business. I give all I possess. Take all of it, Lord—and take me! I give
myself in such measure that if it is necessary that I lose everything for your sake, let me lose it. I will not ask what the price is. I
will ask only that I may be all that I ought to be as a follower and disciple of Jesus Christ, my Lord. Amen.
If even 300 of God’s people became that serious, our world would never hear the last of it! They would influence the news.
Their message would go everywhere like birds on the wing. They would set off a great revival of New Testament faith and witness.
God wants to deliver us from the easygoing, smooth and silky, fat and comfortable Christianity so fashionable today.
I hope we are willing to let the truth get hold of us, even at the cost of rejection or embarrassment. The faith of the
heavenly overcomers cost them everything but gained them much more. What of our faith?
