PARENT WORKSHOP
PARENTS:
TOMORROW AT 6PM, NVMI will host a
wonderful bilingual workshop – HOW TO
HELP YOUR CHILD SUCCCEED
ACADEMICALLY. We encourage all parents
to come to this great workshop to learn about
strategies to help your child succeed. Earn
parent hours for coming too!
VERY IMPORTANT
PARENT INFORMATION
Like many schools, NVMI is experiencing a rash of
incidents of what is known as CUTTING, a behavior in
which students cut themselves with knives, glass,
scissors, or other sharp objects. We have posted to the
NVMI web site a link to a WebMD article on cutting
with information about what parents should be looking
for and how to help their children. PLEASE take the
time to read this important article:

It is very important that you monitor your
child’s use of social media. Parents are
often very unaware of things their children
are doing on social media such as
Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat,
etc. Students at a very young age
sometimes do very inappropriate things on
social media. For instance, it is not
uncommon for kids to send naked pictures
of themselves to friends and other students
with whom they have a romantic interest.
It is also not uncommon for bullying
behaviors to be documented on social
media, mean and hurtful comments to be
made on social media, and images and
videos of students doing very dangerous
things to be placed on social media sites.
As adults, we realize how dangerous this
can be. Once an image is released, it can
never be unreleased. PLEASE talk to your
child about being careful on social media.
As a parent, PLEASE check your child’s
social media pages. If you need help,
come ask one of the school administrators
or counselors to help you.
Pass in Review
FRIDAY, November 7, at 12:30 pm.
Please come check out our wonderful
Veterans Wall of Honor and see your child
march in this important event.

GEOGRATHON
Your children were all given information about an important fund raiser to help
pay for the expenses associated with the school’s laptop program. The concept
of the fund raiser is fairly simple. Students got a list of 50 geographic terms to
study and be able to identify on a blank world map. They collect pledges from
sponsors who will pay them an amount for each question they correctly answer.
THIS TUESDAY, November 4, they take a test on those 50 geographic terms
and the test is graded and returned the same day. They then go back to their
sponsors to collect donations based on the amount they got correct on the test.
They bring in those donations and earn prizes based on the amount they collect.
Please check in with them about the fund raising information they have already
received and please do everything you can do support this important fund raiser. 100% of the profits from
the fund raiser go to support our school technology program.
Our CANNED FOOD DRIVE is going
: on now through the end of the month.
Please encourage your child to donate
non-perishable food items which will be
given to local charities, including our
own St. Andrew and St. Charles Church
Pantry.
STUDENT LED CONFERENCES
If you have not yet gotten your child’s first
quarter report card and held student led
conferences, please email Dr. Ryan to set up a
time to come in to accomplish that task. Dr. Ryan
has made a number of home visits, but the few
remaining families were not home when he
visited and he will not be making any more visits
at this time, so if you want that report card, please
contact Dr. Ryan at [email protected] to
arrange a time to come into school to accomplish
the student led conferences from first quarter.
AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM
NVMI is pleased to be offering a wonderful after school program consisting of
academics, athletics, and enrichment. Classes are offered for high school
students in such topics as art, outdoor education, academic support and
tutoring, a new band program, and for all student athletes. For information
about the program, email Ms. Yanesi Diaz at [email protected] or stop by
after school and see one of the staff who is wearing a blue polo shirt.
RESTROOM VANDALISM – NVMI continues to be plagued by a very
small minority of students who are vandalizing our restrooms. If the problem
persists, we will be forced to take the drastic action of only having portable
restrooms available for student use on campus. PLEASE take care of your
school and encourage your friends to do the same.
