25.3 Department of Portuguese Language and Luso-Brazilian Studies
The program offered at the Department of Portuguese Language and
Luso-Brazilian Studies aims at providing the students not only with the
learning of Portuguese language, but a wide range of perspectives,
including politics, economics, society, and literature to comprehensively
approach this area of studies. The Department's goal is to create human
resources capable of challenging a language and a world of Portuguesespeaking nations, comprising not only Brazil in South America and
Portugal in Europe, but also Mozambique, Angola and three other
countries in Africa, in addition to Macao and East Timor in Asia. As a
wide proposition, it is our aim to provide the world with new conquerors
in the 21st century, as Portugal once did during the era of discoveries of
the 15th century.
Students learn the language through an intensive and systematic
approach to acquire sufficient language ability in order to apply it
efficiently to acquiring knowledge of the area studies. As a direct result
of this program, this department produces more graduation theses than
any other department in the Faculty of Foreign Studies. Besides that,
each year more than 20 students go abroad to Portugal, Brazil, the U.S.,
Great Britain and other countries in order not only to study but to enlarge
their points of view on the world.

29. CREAME (Centre de Recherches et d'études sur l'Amérique Ibérique Univ Liège)
Le Centre de Recherches et d'Études sur l'Amérique Ibérique (CRÉAMÉ) de
l'Université de Liège, fondé en 1997, a pour vocation d'être un lieu d'échanges et
de projets, un relais entre l'université et l'Amérique Latine. Il se veut
l'interlocuteur universitaire liégeois des autres institutions nationales et
internationales qui partagent ses objectifs.

La réflexion du CNRS porte sur l'étude de la transformation des sociétés
d'Amérique latine dans un contexte marqué par les progrès de la mondialisation.
Il n'est désormais plus question pour le GRAL de construire l'étude de l'aire
culturelle Amérique latine dans la seule exploration des aspects qui en marquent
à la fois la spécificité et l'unité et qui risquerait d'induire une logique de repli sur
une position d'exception scientifique.
31. Cerma- Centre de Recherches sur les Mondes Américains
Depuis le 1er janvier 1999, l'UMR "Empires, sociétés, Nations", réunit les
chercheurs de plusieurs grands établissements parisiens sur l'Amérique latine et
plus particulièrement des deux anciennes unités du CNRS - le CERMA (URA
1224) et le GDR 994 (Le Politique en Amérique latine). L'UMR rassemble les
forces de deux universités (Paris I et Paris X), du Collège de France, de l'Ecole
des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales et du Centre National de la Recherche
Scientifique.
