A UC dá continuidade ao trabalho desenvolvido nos seminários de investigação que a precederam e desenvolve‐se num espaço de debate, reflexão crítica amigável e de apoio científico‐pedagógico à estruturação, redação e apresentação oral do trabalho até aqui realizado pelos estudantes. This Curricular Unit constitutes the natural continuity to the precedent «Research Seminars». It will function in a friendly debate environment. The main objectives are to support the students in what concerns the writing, structuration and oral presentation processes of their thesis.
Nesta fase, as investigações conducentes ao estar doutoramento já deverão significativamente avançadas, pelo que esta UC, consiste fundamentalmente na consolidação desse trabalho sob a forma de tese. At this stage, the student’s individual investigations must already be significantly advanced, so this CU, consists basically in the consolidation of this work in the form of a PhD thesis.
Uma insistência particular será dada às competências de redação científica (segundo a tradição sociológica) à estruturação da tese (quer em capítulos, quer sob a forma de artigos) e à apresentação pública dos resultados (por forma a preparar e ensaiar o momento da defesa).
A particular emphasis will be given to scientific writing skills (according to the sociological tradition) to the structuring of the thesis (either in chapters or in the form of scientific articles) and to the public presentation of the results (in order to prepare and rehearse the moment of the discussion).

Os conteúdos programáticos operacionalizam com coerência os objetivos da UC, pois permitem uma colaboração intensiva e regular entre os participantes do seminário, fortalecimento a sua identidade de pertença a uma “equipa” de trabalho; dotam os estudantes com competências e recursos disponíveis para a escrita científica; treinam competências ao nível da oralidade e da apresentação de resultados.
The syllabus operationalizes coherently the main objectives of the Curricular Unit: it promotes an intensive and regular collaboration between the participants in the seminar, enhancing their sense of belonging to a “working team”; it equips students with scientific writing tools and resources; it trains oral abilities and competences.

Os objectivos de aprendizagem da UC requerem metodologias de ensino que respeitem a proximidade regular entre os docentes e o trabalho e progresso dos estudantes, o respeito pela diversidade das abordagens e a consideração da singularidade dos casos individuais. Estes princípios de partida são justamente contemplados na metodologia adotada.
The learning outcomes of the curricular unit require the adoption of teaching methodologies based on a regular proximity with students’ work and progress, which contemplates respect for diversity of approaches and consider the singularity of individual cases. These general principles are precisely illustrated in the adopted methodology.
