Prerequisites Basic mathematical and statistical concepts. Objectivos Gerais Dar a conhecer métodos quantitativos usados na avaliação de projectos com elevada incerteza nas recompensas futuras. Apresentar, para cada método, casos práticos de avaliação. General Objectives This course intends to promote the learning of quantitative methods applied in project evaluation when there is a high level of uncertainty over future rewards. Other objective is to present, for each method, several case studies of assessment. Objectivos de Aprendizagem Após a frequência da UC, o aluno está habilitado a: 1. Caracterizar o projecto e eleger o método adequado para o avaliar; 2. Descrever a Metodologia de Simulação e adaptá-la à avaliação de um projecto; 3. Implementar um modelo de simulação para avaliar um projecto e interpretar os resultados; 4. Incorporar técnicas de redução da variância no modelo de simulação; 5. Enumerar as características de um procedimento em Programação Dinâmica e adaptá-lo à avaliação de um projecto; 6. Implementar um procedimento em Programação Dinâmica para avaliar um projecto e interpretar os resultados; 7. Identificar os casos em que a Aproximação em Árvore Binomial pode ser útil para avaliar um projecto; 8. Implementar um procedimento em Árvore Binomial para avaliar um projecto e interpretar os resultados. 1 Learning Goals After the frequency of the course, the student is able to: 1. Characterize the project and elect the appropriate method for the assessment of it; 2. Describe the Simulation Methodology and adapt it to the evaluation of a project; 3. Implement a Simulation Model to evaluate a project and interpret the results; 4. Incorporate variance-reducing techniques in the Simulation Model; 5. List the features of the Dynamic Programming technique and adapt it to the evaluation of a project; 6. Implement a Dynamic Programming procedure to evaluate a project and interpret the results. 7. Identify cases in which the Binomial Tree Approach can be useful to evaluate a project; 8. Implement a Binomial Tree procedure to evaluate a project and interpret results. Programa 1. Introdução 1.1. Avaliação Contínua (AC): dois trabalhos (cada um com peso de 25%); um teste (peso: 50%; nota mínima: 8 valores); assiduidade mínima: 80% do total de aulas. 2. Exame Final: destinado a quem não optou pela AC ou que desistiu da mesma; se resultado está entre 8 e 10 valores, o aluno pode realizar uma prova oral (PO). Aprovação na UC: Se a classificação final (CF) for maior ou igual a 10 valores. Se CF for superior a 16, o aluno pode realizar uma PO; caso contrário, a CF será de 16 valores. Evaluation Process 1. Continuous Evaluation (CE): two group works (each weighing 25%); one test (weight: 50%; minimum grade: 8 points in 20); minimum attendance: 80% of classes taught. 2. Final Exam: for students who have not opted for the CE or students who have given up of CE; if grade (G) is between 8 and 10, the student can perform an oral exam (OE). Approval in the Course: final grade (FG) greater than or equal to 10. If G is higher than 16, the student can perform an OE; otherwise, the FG will be 16. Processo de ensinoaprendizagem O aluno deverá adquirir e desenvolver competências de análise e síntese, de pesquisa, de crítica, de comunicação escrita e oral, no âmbito desta UC e em conformidade com os objectivos definidos. Activas, com realização de trabalhos de grupo. 4. Experimentais, com desenvolvimento e exploração de modelos em computador. 5. Auto-estudo. 4 Learning-Teaching Process Each student should acquire analytical, information gathering, written and oral communication skills, according to the established learning outcomes for this unit. Learning methodologies will be used: 1. Expositional, to the presentation of the theoretical reference. frames 2. Participative, with analysis and resolution of application exercises. 3. Active, with the realization of group works. 4. Experimental laboratory, with development and operation of computer models. 5. Self-study.
