I
was very tempted to write this editorial in
Portuguese so as to reach as many
readers as possible, but decided to come back
to English to match the main theme and my
own feelings while writing.
Of course the newsletter is interesting and
rich in content, as always, but today I'm
writing about On the Run, Paul McCartney's
tour which landed in Recife this weekend and
is heading to Florianopolis on Wednesday.
I was there on Saturday, in Recife, together
with about 50.000 other fans, thoroughly
hypnotized by this unique musician: the
choice o songs, the first-class band and of
course, Sir Paul McCartney's unrivalled charm
– an evening never to be forgotten.
He opened the show with Magical
Mystery Tour: roll up for the Mystery Tour…
the Magical Mystery Tour is waiting to take
you away… and so he did, he took us all away
with him for the next three hours of pure joy.
He greeted the public with a sound “Oi Brazil,
oi Pernambuco, oi Recife!!!” which of course
got the full audience wildly screaming back
“ois” at him, after which he added “ô povo
arretado!” - needless to say, everybody was at
his feet instantly.
If I could choose one part of the show that
I liked most, I wouldn't of course be able to and
would choose three different moments:
a) when he paid tribute to people who
have special meaning in his life: his present
wife, Nancy (check the video, My Valentine in
our Fan Page on Facebook) followed by his first
wife, Linda (Maybe I'm amazed – I hadn't
heard this song before and was deeply
impressed by the strength he put to it), John
Lennon (Here Today – I hadn't heard this one
either, what a horrible fan I am!!), George
H a r r i s o n ( S o m e t h i n g , p l aye d o n a
“cavaquinho”, believe it or not! Check the
video on our Fan Page again) and Ringo Star
(Yellow Submarine)
b) the Beatles moments, when he swept
us all off our feet: The Long and Winding
Road (so special!), Obladi-Oblada, Hey Jude
(and here he conducted the public –in
Portuguese again! – só os homens… só as
mulheres… as mulheres again…,todo
mundo…), Get Back, Yesterday, Helter
Skelter…
c) and finally, a cry for peace, which
started with Give Peace a Chance followed by
Let it Be and exploded in a superb Live and Let
Die.
Well, well… back to the newsletter, check
the song corner (guess who you'll find there?)
and go to U-Tube, try to find more. And read
this issue, of course: number 99, enjoy it!

Semi-intensivo
Say It!
Teve início dia 24/4 o curso semi-intensivo,
destinado a pessoas que precisam começar
seus estudos de inglês a partir do nível básico.
Trata-se de um curso rápido que agiliza o
estudo na língua inglesa. O curso terminará no
dia 28 de junho, com aulas sempre às terças e
quintas-feiras, das 19h às 21h45.
Vale lembrar que durante o curso o aluno
terá acesso, sem custo algum, ao Centro de
Estudos para utilizar todos os recursos
oferecidos pela escola, como: biblioteca,
videoteca, laboratório multimídia e de áudio.
Além disso, há o estudo interativo pelo site, o
E-practice, que pode ser acessado a qualquer
hora e proporciona várias atividades de
reading and writing (leitura e escrita), listening
and speaking (compreensão e prática oral).
Também estão abertas as inscrições para
as novas turmas do curso Say It!, com início
no mês de maio. Voltado para adultos, o Say
it! possui foco em comunicação oral e curto
prazo de duração.
Além do trabalho em sala de aula, o
programa oferece atividades extraclasse
para a consolidação do que foi aprendido
nas aulas. Neste curso, o aluno aprende a
utilizar o inglês em conversas usuais,
entendendo e usando expressões do dia a
dia, a interagir em inglês com falantes da
língua e a produzir pequenos textos.
