FROM BUGGERY TO BRIDAL SHOWERS:
GLOBAL LGBT PUBLIC POLICY
AND MENTAL HEALTH
Even though public policies and opinions are rapidly changing, serious mental health issues for LGBT people remain.
These disparities exist within a historical context that castigated LGBT individuals as immoral, aberrant, and deviant.
Weaving the past with the present, this lecture explores emerging LGBT global social and policy changes (e.g., same-sex
marriage) and their potential impact on LGBT mental health, clinical treatment, and wellbeing. Moreover, the role
of clinical training is examined as both a causative or ameliorative factor in addressing
LGBT mental health disparities.
