Mein Name ist Alwie Middelkamp. Meine
Partnerin Thea und ich wohnen mit unseren
Hunden in Nijverdal Holland.
Kimon stammt von dem Spitzenrüden Mark
Haus Beck und Candy v Dan Alhedy’s
Hoeve.
Hunde. Wir gehen jedes Wochenende auf
Schauen. Aber über alle Einzelnen zu schreiben, würde jetzt den Rahmen sprengen.
Ich bin 57 Jahre alt und zusammen mit Thea
van Roekel besitzen wir die bekannte Hundezucht van Dan Alhedy’s Hoeve.
Zu jener Zeit war es nicht einfach, zu einem
Hund wie Mark zum Decken zu kommen.
Ich kam aus den Niederlanden und war in der
DSH Zucht noch nicht bekannt. Aber wenn
ich etwas will, dann verfolge ich das Ziel bis
zum Ende; und auch den Deckakt habe ich
bekommen.
Allerdings möchte ich gerne noch ein besonderes Resultat erwähnen: Yasco v. Dan Alhedy’s
Hoeve der Allround-Hond 2005 VDH Nederland. Mein Bruder Theo trainiert diesen Hund,
so bleibt alles in unserer Familie.
Wie lange besitzen Sie schon Deutsche Schäferhunde, und wie sind Sie auf diese Rasse
gekommen?
Ich besitze schon seit 34 Jahren Deutsche
Schäferhunde und 1974 habe ich meinen Zwingernamen und die Hundezucht beim Raad van
Beheer in den Niederlanden schützen lassen.
Ich bin zu den Deutschen Schäferhunden
gekommen, weil sie für mich die schönsten
Hunde sind, sowohl vom Körperbau als auch
von der Bewegung. Und nicht zu vergessen das
Wesen, der Typ und die Ausstrahlung.
Als ich ca. 14 Jahre alt war wollte ich gerne
einen DSH, aber meine Mutter war nicht
einverstanden und meinte, ich könne später
immer noch einen haben.
Wenn ich mir die Nachkommen ansehe, ist das
natürlich ein toller Wurf
gewesen und ich wurde
durch ihn im In- und
Ausland bekannt.
Der Wurf hat mir so
gut gefallen, dass wir
drei Hunde behalten
haben: Kimon, Kalle
und Kim.
Kimon war der Beste
und ihn auf der großen
der Bundessieger Hauptzuchtschau auszustellen war wirklich ein
Traum.
Das erste Mal 1991 in der Junghundklasse
wurde er Junghund Sieger.
Das zweite Mal bekam er Vorzüglich Auslese
7 und das dritte Mal Vorzüglich Auslese 4.
Und 1994 kam der Höhepunkt, als er Sieger
der Gebrauchshundklasse wurde.
Kalle bekam in Spanien und in den USA V
Platzierungen und Kim wurde Landesgruppen
Siegerin in Deutschland.
Das war ein Wurf, auf den ich noch immer
sehr stolz bin.
Aber was mich auch immer sehr stolz gemacht
hat, war meine Zuchtgruppe auf der Siegerschau.

Als ich dann 18 wurde, habe ich mir einfach
einen Schäferhund gekauft. Aber meine Mutter
war immer noch dagegen und ich musste den
Hund zum Züchter zurückbringen.
Mein Geld war weg, aber meinen Traum von
einem DSH habe ich nicht vergessen.
1972 habe ich dann meinen ersten DSH
gekauft, von dem ich wusste, dass ich ihn
behalten konnte. Denn inzwischen war ich
verheiratet und hatte mein eigenes Haus.
Was für Resultate haben Sie mit Ihren
Hunden erreicht?
Auf die Frage, auf welchen Hund ich besonders stolz bin, muss ich natürlich sagen: Kimon
v. Dan Alheydy’s Hoeve Schh3 Kkl1.
Fünfmal war ich dort und ich muss sagen eine
Zwinger- oder Zuchtgruppe auf der Siegerschau zu haben, ist nicht einfach.
Ich erreichte folgende Platzierungen:
1992 Karlsruhe Platz 6
Wir haben in den Jahren im Hundesport viele
Freunde gefunden und gemeinsam sind wir
dahin gekommen wo wir jetzt sind.
Wie lange betreiben Sie schon den Hundesport?
Das habe ich eigentlich schon in der ersten
Fragen beantwortet. Ich züchte seit 34
Jahren, bin über 34 Jahre Mitglied im VDH
Niederlande und seit 25 Jahren im SV in
Deutschland.
Aus welchem Grund haben sie angefangen
selbst zu züchten?
In erster Linie züchte ich für mich selbst. Ich
behalte immer aus jedem Wurf einen Hund
für mich.
Ich versuche immer, die besten Deckrüden
zu verwenden und das schönste für mich ist,
dass ich immer noch meine eigene Mutterlinie habe.

Ich sage immer: Einen guten Hund kaufen
kann jeder - aber einen guten Hund zu züchten,
ist eine ganz andere Geschichte.

Welche Eigenschaften bevorzugen Sie?

Ein DSH muss ein gutes Wesen haben und
offen zu Menschen und besonders zu Kindern
sein.

Ich bin sehr stolz, eine Platzierung unter
den besten deutschen Züchtern erreicht zu
haben, aber auch in den Niederlanden hatte
ich guten Erfolg. Bis jetzt hatte ich auf der
Niederländischen Siegerschau 6 Mal die beste
Zuchtgruppe.
Ich bin natürlich auch stolz auf meine jetzigen

Er muss gute Arbeitseigenschaften haben,
besonders Fährtenarbeit, Schutzdienst und
Unterordnung.
Und er muss einen edlen Typ haben mit viel
Ausstrahlung.

Was ist für Sie wichtig, wenn Sie einen
Hund ausbilden?
Am wichtigsten ist
die Bindung zwischen dem Hund
und dem Besitzer.
Das ist nicht immer
einfach, wenn mehrere Hunde im
Zwinger sind. Bei
mir hat das immer
gut geklappt. Ich nehme auch nur die Hunde
mit in den Verein, mit denen ich auch arbeiten
werde, damit ich jedem Hund meine ungeteilte
Aufmerksamkeit schenken kann. Bis jetzt ging
das immer gut.
Ziehen Sie die Welpen selbst auf ?
Ja, zusammen mit meiner Frau Thea.
Thea ist den ganzen Tag mit den Welpen
zusammen, geht mit ihnen spazieren, bringt
sie unter Menschen und macht sie mit allem
bekannt, was sie im Leben erwarten könnte.
Sie geht mit ihnen oft in die Nähe von Schulen,
wo Kinder sind. Das finden wir sehr wichtig.
Wir haben aber außerdem gute Freunde, die
uns bei der Aufzucht helfen.
Allein kann man nicht bis an die Spitze
kommen, dafür braucht man Leute, die mit
einem zusammen arbeiten und wir haben das
Glück, dass wir diese haben.
Wenn wir einen Welpen
aus einem Wurf behalten, ist der Weg, bis
alles stimmt und er auf
die Schau gehen kann,
sehr lang. Denn die
Zähne müssen stimmen
und der Körperbau.
Auch muss er ein gutes
Wesen haben und den
Willen zu arbeiten.
Bilden Sie Ihre Hunde
selbst aus?
Ja das habe ich immer gemacht. Ich habe schon
über 60 Hunde ausgebildet.
Am Anfang war ich Helfer und habe in vielen
Vereinen verschiedene Leute und Hunde unterrichtet. Besonders gern habe ich mit jungen
Leute und ihren Hunden gearbeitet.
Ab welchem Alter beginnen Sie mit dem
Training Ihrer jungen Hunde?
Eigentlich so früh wie möglich.
Wenn die Welpen geboren sind, ist es wichtig,
dass sie jeden Tag einmal in die Hand genommen werden.
Auch ein guter Kontakt zur Mutter ist sehr
wichtig. Darum haben meine Zuchthündinnen
immer ein gutes Wesen.
Wenn die Welpen von der Muttermilch auf
normales Hundefutter umgestellt werden, ist
der Kontakt mit Menschen
auch sehr wichtig.
Wir sprechen sehr viel
mit den Welpen.
Wenn sie gechipt sind
und die neuen Besitzer kommen, um
ihre Welpen abholen,
fängt für mich gleich
die Arbeit mit meinen
eigenen Welpen an. Ich
nehme sie überall mit,
dadurch werden sie mit
allem bekannt gemacht,
was zu unserem Leben
gehört.
Sie haben viel Kontakt
mit anderen Hunden
und Kindern.
Wenn die Zähne durchkommen, muss man
mit dem Beißen oder
Spielen vorsichtig sein.
Ich persönlich fange
immer sehr spät mit
dem Schutzdienst an.
Ja, und man sollte auch
nicht zu lange oder zu
weit spazieren gehen.
Auch gutes Futter ist von
großer Wichtigkeit.

Wenn der Welpe älter
geworden ist und die
Hüften und Ellenbogen
in Ordnung sind, fängt
für mich das richtige
Arbeiten mit Fahrrad
und Unterordnung an.
Welche Methode verwenden Sie beim Arbeiten mit Ihren Hunden?
Meine eigene Methode? Ich habe natürlich
meine eigene Vorstellung. Ich selbst gehöre
nicht zu denen, die gerne reden und ich habe
nur wenig Geduld und sehr hohe Ansprüche.
Das ist für einen Hund nicht einfach. Deshalb
ist das Wesen der Elterntiere sehr wichtig.
Ich erreiche auf einer Prüfung natürlich gerne
hohe Punktzahlen, aber wenn ich 15 Punkte
verliere, ist mir das auch egal.
Wichtig ist, dass mein Hund mit Freude arbeitet und mit Freude im Leben steht.
Die Schauen bleiben für mich immer das
wichtigste Ziel.
Haben Sie einige Trainings-Tipps, die für
unsere Leser interessant sein könnten?
Ja und Nein. Wer hat recht?
Die Trainingsmethode wählt man, wenn man
weiß, was für ein Wesen der Hund hat und was
für eine Person der Besitzer ist. Die eigene Idee
was ich meinem Hund beibringen will, das ist
für mich wichtig.
Und immer schauen was andere machen und
davon verwenden, was für mich und meinen
Hund wichtig ist und passt.
Worauf führen Sie sich Ihren Erfolg auf
Ausstellungen zurück?
Das ist eine interessante Frage.
Zunächst einmal ist meine Mutterlinie für mich
am wichtigsten.
Gute und nicht so gute Eigenschaften spielen
hier eine wichtige Rolle und immer auch die
gewählte Verpaarung.

Haben Sie eine Hund, der Sie besonders
anspricht?
Ja, das war natürlich Kimon. Weltsieger zu
werden, wenn man aus den Niederlanden
kommt, ist nicht schlecht.
Aber mein Herz hängt an Kelly. Sie war ein
zwergwüchsiger Welpe, der bei uns aus einer
Spitzenverpaarung geboren wurde. Kelly war
ein ganz besonderer Welpe und die kleinste
im Wurf.

Als die anderen Welpen 2000 g wogen, hatte
Kelly gerade mal 400 g. Und so blieb es eine
lange Zeit.
Ich hat keine Ahnung, was ich mit Kelly tun
sollte. Uns so fragte ich viele Tierärzte, aber
die konnten mir auch nichts sagen.
Der ganze Wurf war schon verkauft und bei
den neuen Besitzern, aber Kelly war noch
immer bei uns. Mit 4 Monaten wog sie noch
keine 3 kg.
Wieder haben wir viele Tierärzte besucht, und
keiner konnte uns helfen.

Und dann kam die Rettung. Im Fernsehen
war sprach ein Tierarzt über Zwergwuchs bei
Pferden und wir haben gleich dort angerufen. 3
Tage später waren wir im Fernsehen und haben
mit dem Tierarzt, Nico Dijkshoorn aus Zeist,
über Kelly gesprochen.
Er erklärte uns, dass es mit Genetik und der
Hypophyse zu tun hat. Er bot uns an, Kelly
zu behandeln und die sehr hohen Kosten zu
übernehmen.
Jede zweite Woche mussten wir mit Kelly 300
km zur Behandlung fahren. Aber nichts war
zu viel für unseren kleinen Schatz.
Wir nahmen sie überall mit; die Leute sollten
sehen, dass Zucht nicht immer nur gut geht.

Auch das Training ist wichtig. Ich persönlich
trainiere jeden Tag mit meinen Hunden und
jeden Montag in unserem Verein mit allen,
die dort hin kommen. Am Training nehmen
sowohl Anhänger der Schau- als auch der Leistungslinien teil. So sollte es meiner Meinung
nach auch immer sein.
Kelly hatte wenig Fell und hatte mit 8 Monaten
schon viele OPs hinter sich.
Aber Nico hat Kelly immer wieder auf die
Beine bekommen und wir sind ihm immer
noch dankbar dafür.

Jeder hat Kelly gesehen, sie war in China,
UK, Hongkong und noch vielen anderen
Ländern.
Aber es gab auch Leute, die uns verurteilt
haben. Manche meinten, dieser Zwerg habe
kein Recht zu leben.
Kelly ist 5 Mal im Fernsehen gewesen und war
in vielen Hundezeitungen abgebildet.
Wir haben diese kleine Kelly sehr geliebt, sie
war sehr wichtig für uns.
Kelly! Was waren und sind wir stolz auf
dich!
Sie hatte ein 100 %iges Wesen und hat immer
gedacht, dass sie ein großer Schäferhund ist.
Sie hatte keine Angst und war immer freundlich.
Ja, wir können sagen, Kelly du warst der größte,
schönste und bekannteste Hund aus unserem
Zwinger von Dan Alhedy’s hoeve. Thea und
ich würden alles geben, wenn du noch hier sein
könntest. Wir lieben dich immer noch.
Was sind Ihre Zuchtpläne und wie gehen Sie
dabei vor?
Nur immer dabei bleiben, was die Blutlinie
angeht.
Wenn große Schauen vor der Tür stehen, wird
die Gruppe etwas verkleinert und wir trainieren im Wald, dann aber 3 bis 4 Mal in der
Woche. Das ist für mich immer die schönste
Zeit im Jahr.
Das kann man erreichen, indem man zu vielen
Schauen geht und viel liest.
Sehr wichtig ist die Sieger Hauptzuchtschau,
wo immer der Plan für das neue Jahr geschrieben wird.
Eine gute Mischung aus Training, Fütterung
und viel Glück gehören auch zum Erfolg.
Aber ich würde auch einen Rüden verwenden,
der auf der BSHZS an 50. Stelle läuft, wenn ich
ihn für meine Hündin besser finde.
Man sollte auch daran denken, dass jeder
Richter seinen eigenen Typ hat. Deshalb ist
es auch wichtig, die Hunde bei ausgewählten
Richtern auszustellen.
Ich denke, das sollten alle Züchter machen, um
ihre Zucht zu verbessern.
Gibt es etwas Besonderes, das Ihnen an Ihren
Hunden gefällt?
Wie finden Sie die Deckpartner für Ihre
Hündinen?
Eigentlich nicht. Jeder Hund ist etwas Besonderes und jeder Hund ist für mich sehr wertvoll.
Eigentlich habe ich das eben schon beantwortet.

Inzucht mache ich auch gerne - nicht zu eng
aber 4-3 4-4 ist wichtig für mich.

Ohne Inzucht geht es gar nicht, denn in
Deutschland wird nur so gezüchtet.
Eigentlich sind alle verwandt, aber ich möchte
gerne Namen nennen:
Die Richter vom SV bestimmen die Zucht
durch die Rüden, die sie an erster Stelle laufen
lassen.

Heute ist das so: Wenn man nicht einen Rüden
nimmt, der eine hohe Platzierung auf der
BSHZS erlaufen hat, dann ist das uninteressant
für die Zucht.
Wir haben in den Niederlanden immer gute
Hunde gehabt und haben sie immer noch.
Aber Hunde, die in den Niederlanden gute
Platzierungen erreichen, werden von niederländischen Züchtern nicht zur Zucht
verwendet. Nur Rüden aus Deutschland. Das
ist schade. Ich habe die niederländische Zucht
immer hoch geachtet.

Es gibt gute Blutlinien, aber es wird zu eng
gezüchtet. Wir müssen aufpassen, dass wir
nicht zu eng mit unseren Blutlinien züchten.
Ich fürchte, wenn wir so weiter machen,
werden mit bestimmten Blutlinien viele Probleme kommen.

Aber auch eine gute Blutlinie kann durchaus
eine negative Auswirkung auf unsere Zucht
haben.
Wie sehen Sie die Entwicklung des DSH in
den vergangenen Jahren?
Heute wird viel geredet über das Problem
Ursus. Aber wir haben sehr schöne Hunden
aus dieser Blutlinie bekommen und es bleiben immer noch genügend andere Blutlinien
übrig.
Vor 12 Jahren haben wir Uran gehabt, der
überall in den Ahnentafel gestanden hat und
auch das ist gut auf die Reihe gekommen.

Positiv, aber auch ein bisschen mit Angst.
Ich hoffe, dass wir das Wesen des DSH gut
erhalten können, und dass der Leistungs- und
Schaubereich besser zusammen arbeitet.

Das Gebäude ist wichtig aber auch das
Wesen.
Was denken sie über die heutigen DSH?
Der DSH soll die schönste Rasse bleiben und
das ist auch möglich.
Aber wir müssen Respekt vor der Rasse haben
und positiv denken.
Der DSH muss ein Hund mit einem sehr guten
Wesen bleiben.
Worauf achten Sie bei einem Rüden, den Sie
als Partner für Ihre Hündin auswählen?
Nur schön sein genügt nicht.
Wichtig ist Typ, Adel, HD und ED und wie
hoch sein ZW ist.
Als Alternative für Ursus finde ich Yak Frankengold sehr gut.
Ich prüfe, ob der Rüde ein gutes Wesen hat und
ob er gut ist für meine Blutlinie.
Was würden Sie unseren Lesern aus dem
Leistungsbereich auf die Sorge entgegnen,
dass eine Zucht nach hauptsächlich anatomischen Gesichtspunkten die Gebrauchstüchtigkeit des Deutschen Schäferhundes
gefährdet?
Sich mit anderen Züchtern auszutauschen, ist
auch immer wichtig.
Und dann natürlich, was kann der Rüde an
seine Nachzucht weitergeben? Was ist seine
Kraft?

Ich finde, dass wir den DSH immer als einen
Gebrauchshund sehen müssen, dass Leistung
immer wichtig ist und dass beides (Anatomie
und Leistung) auch gut zusammen gehen
kann.
Welche Verpaarung hat nicht das gebracht
was jeder erwartet hat?
Das ist auch eine gute Frage. Ich habe ja schon
über gute Sachen und über negative Sachen
gesprochen.
Aber ich versuche stets mit KKL 1 Hunden zu
züchten. Auch in den Schaulinien gibt es genügend Hunde mit einem sehr guten Wesen.
Ein Züchter weiß, dass es auch viele negative
Dinge gibt. Aber was in meiner Zucht falsch
läuft könnte bei einem anderen Züchter spitzen
Hunde geben.
Ich habe schon gute Würfe gehabt, aber wenn
ich eine Wurfwiederholung gemacht habe,
war alles ganz negativ. Das werde ich auch nie
wieder versuchen.

Ich hoffe, dass der DSH immer die Nummer
1 bleibt und dass wir diese Hunde mit Respekt
züchten, dass wir sein Wesen und sein Gebäude
immer hoch achten.
Wenn wir als Züchter das beachten, wird
alles gut.
Ich möchte nur unsere Richter bitten, lasst die
kleinen Züchter nicht vergammeln. Auch diese
Leute arbeiten viel um das Beste zu bringen.
Seien Sie ehrlich.
Und wenn wir gut miteinander reden, bin ich
sicher, dass wir noch viele Jahre unsere DSH
genießen können.

Welcher Hund hat für Sie das Beste in der
Zucht gebracht?
An erster Stelle steht für mich Jeck v Noricum
- ein super Vererber. Ich habe diesen Rüden
mehrfach in meiner Blutlinie. Auch den Q
Wurf von Arminius finde ich wichtig.

years member with the VDH and more than
25 years member with the SV.
I am Alwie Middelkamp from Nijverdal, Holland,
57 years old of age and together with my partner
Thea v. Roekel we have the German shepherd dog
kennel Van Dan Alhedy’s hoeve.
Why did you decide to breed German Shepherds dogs yourself ?
How long do you have German Shepherds
dogs and how did you come along this
breed.
I have German Shepherds dogs since 34 years
and my kennel is registered by RVB in Holland
since 1974. I started with this breed because
I find it very beautiful, mainly the anatomy,
movement, character, nobility and expression
of the dogs. When I was a boy of 14 years I
wanted very much to have a German shepherd
but my mother did not allow it. She used to
say: maybe later you can have one. At the age
of 18 I bought a German shepherd and when
I came home, my mother said I could not keep
it and that I had to bring it back. And since I
was still living with my parents I had to bring
the dog back with a loss. My mother said that
when I get married I could take as many dogs
as I wanted and that is what I did finally.
In 1972 I bought my first German shepherd
dog Jolanda v. d. Jamas hoeve from the previous owner of Kazan Benjorita Hof and I was
really proud of it.
I decided to breed in order to be able to keep
the dogs for myself. I went to the best males
and the most wonderful thing is that after 34
years I still have the same mother line. To buy
a beautiful dog is not a feat but to breed one
yourself is super.

Kim. Kimon became Junghund Sieger 1991,
VA7, VA4 and Sieger 1994, Kalle became VA
in Spain and America and Kim became Landesgruppen Siegerin in Germany, thus a litter
to be proud of. What I found personally most
wonderful was the Kennel group in which I
participated 5 times.

I was very proud to be among the top German
Kennels. But in Holland it was also very nice.I
participated every year with good results. I was
the best kennel in Holland 6 times and several
times 2nd and 3rd place.
What results have you achieved with your
dogs?
My greatest pride in this dog sport is of course
the breeding of Kimon Van Dan Alhedy’s
Hoeve, SchH 3, KKL 1A. Kimon was bred
out of the combination Mark v. Haus Beck
and Candy v. Dan Alhedy’s Hoeve. It was not
easy to get a stud from Mark v. Haus Beck,
mostly because I came from Holland and was
an unknown breeder. So it costed me a lot of
time on the telephone and finally, luckily I succeeded and Kimon was born. The litter looked
very good and I let my instinct guide me and
kept 3 pups from that litter: Kimon, Kalle and

What characteristics do you prefer.
A German shepherd dog must have a good
character, must be sociable to everyone especially children, furthermore must be able to
work well, especially tracking, protection work
and obedience and in one word must simply
have a very good character and nobility, that
is what I find wonderful.
What do you find important when you are
training a dog.

Furthermore I am very proud of all my dogs.
Every week I go to shows not to mention the
countless numbers of good results. The most
recent wonderful result was in 2005 when my
dog Yasco van Dan Alhedy’s
Hoeve, IPO3, VH3, KKL1A
became the best allround dog in
Holland. He was trained by my
brother thus keeping it all in the
family.
The most important is the combination ownerdog. This is not so easy especially when you
have more dogs at home. There is often a pack
relationship: if you are angry with Marie, then
Jan withdraws himself but eventually everything turns out well. When I go to the club to
train I take only 2 or 3 with me in order to be
able to give them my full attention and that
works fine.
Do you raise the pups yourself ?
Furthermore I could make a
good team with group of people
and that is worth a lot in my
opinion.
How long are you in the dog
sport?
As I mentioned earlier I breed

together with my wife
Thea. Thea is from early
morning till late afternoon
busy with socializing the
pups. She goes for walks
with them - very often
near schools because there
are many children and
this is very important for
the pups. I also have a
lot of people around me
who have our dogs, with
whom we get along very

well and we are honest with each other so it
goes very well.
The only thing is that you cannot reach the
top just like that, you need very good people
for that. These good people also train the dogs
themselves for SchH 1, 2, 3 - cooperation is
very important. I keep control over these things
myself because if you want to keep a good
dog it must have good teeth, good anatomie,
good character, the will to work and certainly
good hips and elbows before SchH1, Kkl1. So
it needs a lot of work, a lot of luck and a lot
of stress.
Do you train the dogs yourself ?
Yes as long as I am in the dog sport I train
my own dogs. In total I have trained about
60 dogs.
When I started I was a Helder and also instructor at several dog clubs. That was very nice.
Especially working with young people was
very pleasant. Only in its entire the hours that
you put into it, not much remains of it and
that I find a pity. Also the requirements of the
German Shepherds are rather high.
When do you start training with young
dogs?
In fact as early as possible. When I have made
the combination with my breeding bitch and
the right male and the characteristics are
there.
When the pups are born we are already with
them, contact with mother and pups is then
of most importance. For example holding
the pups in the hands regularly is very important.

Yes that is naturally Kimon. To become World
champion for a foreigner is not bad at all. But
deep in my heart it is Kelly. Kelly was a dwarf
that was born with us from a top VA combination. Kelly was a very special pup, she was the
smallest in the litter. When the other pups were
2 kg Kelly was only 400 g and it stayed like
that for a very long time. I did not know what
to do. I asked the vet what is was, and even
the vet did not understand it. When the litter
was 8 weeks old and the brothers and sisters
went to the new owners, Kelly remained with
Kellie
us, because I could not sell such a small pup.
When Kelly was 4 months old she did not even
weigh 3 kilos. I went to several vets but no one
could help us.

Until one day while watching an animal program on TV about small animals, we called the
TV vet. Three days later we were on TV. The
Vet /Nico dijkshorn from Zeist said immediately that it was a dwarf and it had something
to do with genes and hypophysis. He told us
that he wanted to treat Kelly and took everything upon himself. Every week we had to
drive 300 km up and down to have her treated
and we did it with love. They told us that she
would not live longer than a year and she lived
to be 9. We took Kelly everywhere with us,
we were not ashamed of her. This lovely dog
had very little hair, a skin problem, her uterus
was removed at the age of 8 month but our
top vet from Zeist always knew how to fix her
up. Almost everyone all around the world had
seen Kelly, Germany, United Kingdom, China,
Hongkong, Denmark, Belgium I can go on and
on. But they have also loathed us. They told us
that it was a scandal for the dog sport.
We have never been ashamed of this dog.
When we showed Kelly to breeders they immediately knew what it was and some of them
told us that they also have had something like
that at times and that they either just got rid
of it or put it to sleep. Kelly has been 5 times
on television and in several dog magazines
or genetic books. She was our big pride. Her
character was 100% liable and lovable, she
could get along with all dogs, especially with
pups she behaved as an ordinary dog. A lot of
people could take an example from this dog,
but that they did not. The only thing they could
do was gossip, scratch my car and lots and lots
of other things I could tell about.
Kelly you were for us the biggest, the most
beautiful and the most famous dog in Kennel
Van Dan Alhedy’s hoeve.Thea misses her
everyday. Kelly we love you.
What are your breeding plans and how do
you achieve that.
Well to watch how it goes with the blood lines,
to read well, to go to many shows, especially
the the Hauptzuchtschau where it is determined which dogs run ahead. But that does not
mean to say that I would perhaps go to a male
that has run the 50th place. Elan (V9) would
probably go beter with my breeding bitches
than the Sieger. More people should perhaps
do this to improve breeding.
How do you look for a partner for your breeding bitch?
I have already answered in question 15 that
luck and a good blood line is very important.
I like to extract the good characteristic out of a
bloodline. In-breeding is also ok, not too close
but 4-3 of 4/4 I find very important. Without
in-breeding I would not dare, because whole
of Germany itself gives an example since the
SV judges mainly determine breeding. Also
because nowadays it is like this: if you breed
with a dog which has not run a good place
on the Hauptzuchtschau, then it is already no
longer for the breeding. The grass is greener at
the neighbours? We in the Netherlands have
always run well with breeding. Dogs that run
high places in the Netherlands did not get studs
but when the dog went to Germany it was ok,
then the Dutch would go for studs. I find this
extremely sad. I have never participated in this.

and I think this has been one of the strongest
point in my breeding. We have good bloodlines
but we must be careful that we do not let it
grow too close. It is very scary, we must be
careful and on alert. I see a lot of problems in
the future the way people are breeding with a
certain bloodline.
What do you expect a male should have before
choosing a partner for your bitch?
Certainly noble type. HD and ED and hips
score (zuchtwert), does the male have a good
character and is it good for my bloodline.
All around us we have good dogs, talking to
others and each other I find it to be important.

How you assess the development of the
German Shepherds dogs in the last years.
Very positive, but also a bit scary. I hope that we
preserve the character of the dogs. That inspite
of all the Kynogoly line and the working line
could get along well with each other. We are
a breed association and we should not forget
neither the anatomy nor the character.

Which much expected bloodline has been a
disappointment in breeding?
I find this a difficult question, I have already
said a lot about the good things and less about
the bad things. We know as breeders that
there are lots of bad things where hereditary
is concerned. But what can go wrong with
my breeding can at the other hand turn out
positive for another breeder. Is that proven,
yes certainly. I, myself have had a litter once
what was super and I repeated the combination

The German shepherd dogs must remain the
most beautiful breed and that is possible.
Then we must all together keep the breed at a
high level and continue to think positive.
To continue to ensure that it remains also a
working dog. I personally find character most
important. Only from a beautiful table you
cannot eat. As alternative for the Ursus Batu
bloodline I personally find Yak von Frankengold very good solution. What I myself have
done once was to use a dog from the working
line (Kimon Hoening Hauserland) and that
has pleased me well. The complete litter was
particular very well of character and the most
wonderful thing was that most of them ended
up as working dogs.

it again and this way I leave everyone in their
value. I only want to ask the judges to leave
the small people in their value as well, also
this trainer. Be honest and look at it positively
(further explanation prohibited).
Which dog influenced your opinion the most
in breeding?
On the first place it has to be Jeck Noricum,
he inherits super. I myself use this dog almost
always in my blood line, but yes? Who does
not use that line now? The Q litter of Arninius,
Qwando, Qusna, Quina I find it super, that is
also proven. In fact they are all related to each
other but I want to name a few special ones:

I find that the German shepherd dogs must
remain number 1, that we must breed for a
working dog and the most wonderful thing
would be that working line and anatomy could
go together. We should try to breed with KLIA,
and especially the working line breeders should
also pay attention to the anatomy because there
are also good dogs in the Kynology lines.

Yes as mentioned before the German shepherd dog must remain number 1 and retain
it’s character. If we breeders pay attention to
these few things I am sure everything will be
better. What we should also not forget is that
we should grant each other more and understand each other more then I am sure we can
still enjoy many many years of our German
shepherd breed.
