from OST+FRONT are
just in the midst of putting the finishing touches
to the follow-up to their
charts-hitting debut “Ave
Maria”, an EP planned
for late summer. OK,
pants down, Hermann!
What can we expect?
The OST+FRONT singer
puts on a diabolical grin:
“Pants down? Careful!
This could hurt, as I prefer
a fast thrust to the use of
lubricants (laughs.) But
laughs
aside. The
EP will be

‘ B i t t e
schlag mich’ (=please hit me!) We recorded the title track in the sessions for ‘Ave
Maria’ but, being rather upbeat, punky,
with some influx of New Wave, it just
didn’t quite fit with the rest of the songs.
It was a very strong song, though, so we
decided to center the next EP around it.
The lyrics are a lot more serious than the
music. In one of my previous bands, we
had one member who would frequently
beat up his girlfriends when inebriated...
a fact that led to me leaving the band. It
made me wonder why those young girls
did not break up with the guy instantly.
One reason that came to my mind was
conditioning. As the father did, so will the
son... black eyes will always stay true. It
was this hypothesis that I built the lyrics
around.” The EP will also include a cover version of Falco’s “Out Of The Dark.”
Why that particular song? “I have always
loved the tune but I felt that the production somehow seemed off-kilter. I always
wanted to produce the song like I felt it
should have sounded... it was produced
posthumously and Falco never had the
chance to exert his influence. I wanted
to take the opportunity to pay homage
to a great artist who has been ground
breaking for the development of German
language Pop Music,” Hermann explains.
Right now, the band is also in the preproduction phase for their next long player and in preparation for filming a new
video clip accompanying the EP. It looks
as though OST+FRONT will be keeping
themselves rather busy. So, good news
galore. Any last words from the man himself? Hermann grins: “Should anyone become possessed by the idea of feasting on
his neighbor against his or her will, please
do not quote me as an inspiration.”

Hermann! Was erwartet
uns?
Der
OST+FRONT Sänger
grinst
diabolisch:
„Hosen runter? Das
könnte schmerzhaft
für dich
enden.
Anlauf

Gleitcreme. (lacht) Aber Spaß beiseite: Die EP trägt
den Namen ‚Bitte schlag mich‘. Das Titelstück
stammt aus der Produktion von ‚Ave Maria‘ und
wollte nicht so recht zu den restlichen Titeln passen, war aber trotzdem eine extrem starke Nummer, sodass wir es kurzerhand zum Aufhänger
für die EP gemacht haben. Der Song ist relativ
schnell, mit einem gewissen Punkcharakter und
NDW-Anleihen. Textlich geht es weitaus ernster
zu, als musikalisch, denn der Song ist für unsere
Verhältnisse nahezu beschwingt. In einer meiner
ehemaligen Bands gab es ein Mitglied, das seine
Lebensgefährtinnen im alkoholisiertem Zustand
häufig verprügelte, was für mich der ausschlaggebende Punkt war, die Band zu verlassen. Und
ich überlegte mir, warum sich diese jungen Frauen
nicht von ihm trennten. Ein solcher Grund kann
angelerntes Verhalten sein, worauf ich den Text
dann auch aufbaute. Wie der Vater so der Sohn...
Blaue Augen sind mir treu...“ Die EP wird auch
eine Version von Falcos Hit „Out Of The Dark“
enthalten. Warum gerade dieses Stück? „Ich fand
den Song immer schon großartig, jedoch wirkte
die Produktion auf mich nicht rund. Seitdem ich
den Titel zum ersten Mal gehört habe, wuchs in
mir der Wunsch, ihn seiner kompositorischen
Qualität entsprechend zu produzieren. Falco hatte ja keine Möglichkeit mehr, darauf einzuwirken.
Ich bedanke mich in Form dieser Coverversion bei
einem großartigem Künstler, der mich schon als
Kind sehr geprägt hat und der für die Entwicklung
der deutschsprachigen Musik in äußerst positivem
Sinne wegweisend war.“ Hermann befindet sich
außerdem zurzeit in der Vorproduktion des nächsten Albums und ein Video zum Titelsong der EP
ist auch in Planung. Es sieht also nicht so aus, als
würden OST+FRONT in absehbarer Zeit zur Ruhe
kommen. Und? Irgendwelche letzten Worte, Hermann? „Wenn jemand auf die Idee kommen sollte,
seinen Nachbarn gegen seinen Willen verspeisen
zu wollen und dabei erwischt wird, dann soll er
mich bitte nicht als Inspirationsquelle angeben!“
