Isabel Klar wurde als erstes Neujahrsbaby
im Westpfalz-Klinikum Kaiserslautern geboren. Sie kam um 0.37 Uhr am 1. Januar
auf die Welt, wog 3370 Gramm und war 50
cm groß. Stolze Eltern sind Prof. Dr. Axel
Klar, Technomathematik, und seine Frau
Miriam.

2. FROM THE UNIVERSITY
Vertrauen für unseren Präsidenten
Professor Dr. Helmut Schmidt ist als
Präsident unserer Hochschule mit 16:1:1
Stimmen wiedergewählt worden. Seine 2.
Amtszeit beginnt am 1. Juli für weitere 6
Jahre. Als erstes will er sich für eine bessere
Grundausstattung unserer Hochschule einsetzen.
TU ist Hausherr einer historischen Villa
Die Stiftung der Universität hat eine Villa
im Diemersteiner Tal bei Hochspeyer (15
Min. von Kaiserslautern) gekauft. Das Gebäude wurde von 1845-1849 von Paul von
Denis im klassizistischen Stil erbaut und
steht heute unter Denkmalschutz. Die Villa
bietet stilvolle Räume die Wissenschaftler
als Tagungsstätte nutzen können, um Kreativität, Kommunikation und Innovation zu
fördern. Mit geplanten kulturellen Veranstaltungen, wie Konzerten und Vorträgen,,
wäre sie für viele Leute zugänglich.
Zur Villa gehört auch
die oberhalb gelegene
Burgruine, womit die
TU zusätzlich Burgherr ist.
4. FROM GERMANY
Neue Länder im Schengen-Raum
Am 21. Dezember 2007 wurde das Gebiet des Schengen-Raumes von 15 auf
24 Staaten erweitert. Grenzkontrollen
finden in der Regel nicht mehr statt. Die
Mitnahme eines Reisedokumentes (Pass
oder Personalausweis) ist aber dennoch
erforderlich. Reisende von Staaten, die nicht
in einem Schengen-Land leben, sondern
dort nur ihre Ferien verbringen, brauchen
nur noch ein einziges Visum für die Einreise
und den kurzfristigen Aufenthalt bis zu drei
Monaten.
Dem Schengen-Raum gehören die EUMitglieder Belgien, Dänemark, Deutschland,
Finnland, Frankreich, Griechenland, Italien,
Luxemburg, Niederlande, Österreich, Portugal, Schweden und Spanien sowie die NichtEU-Mitglieder Norwegen und Island an.
Die neuen Staaten sind Estland, Lettland,
Litauen, Malta, Polen, Slowakei, Slowenien,
Tschechien und Ungarn.

Baum des Jahres
CONGRATULATIONS!
Walnuss (Juglans regia) ist der Baum des
Jahres. Er bekommt seine Blätter erst im
Mai und trägt sie nur 5 Monate, hat keine
auffällige Blüte oder Herbstfärbung und
keine bunten Früchte - aber dafür sehr
gesunde Walnüsse.
Blume des Jahres
Die ‚Nickende Distel‘ (Carduus nutans) ist die Blume
des Jahres. Sie ist stachelig,
anspruchslos und liebt die
Sonne. Im zweiten Jahr zeigt
sie eine prächtige purpurfarbene und duftende Blüte.
Insekt des Jahres
Das Krainer Widderchen (auch Blutströfchenfalter) ist Insekt
des Jahres.

50. Aktion der Sternsinger
In the beginning of the new year the catholic church sends out groups of children
dressed up as wise men, Caspar (of India), Melchior (of Persia) and Balthazar (of
Arabia), led by a star, who go from house
to house. With chalk they write on the entrance door ‘‘20+C+M+B+08‘‘ and ask for
donations for children in the third world.
The initials stand for ‘‘Christus Mansionem
Benedicat‘‘ (The Lord bless this house in
2008).
Of this very old custom a foundation for
children was committed in 1959 to support
children in the whole world. This year was

January is ‚Drei Heilige Könige‘, the Celebration of the Three Wise Men. On this day
the groups meet in their churches and the
mission ends.

Wintereinkauf beim FCK

Fuchs ist neuer Teammanager. Für die 2.
Saison sind bis jetzt 4 neue Spieler verpflichtet: Georges Mandjeck (VfB Stuttgart),
Benjamin Weigelt, (Allemannia Aachen),
Christoper Lamprecht (VfL Wolfsburg)
und Victor Iacob (Steua Bukarest). Das
erste Spiel nach der Winterpause ist am
1. Februar ist in Mönchengladbach. Wird
es einen Sieg für den 1. FCK geben?
