For the year 2011, the American market research company
Towergroup estimated that the market volume of gift cards in the
U.S. would reach more than 100 billion US Dollar for the first
time. According to a calculation of the American Trade Association, consumers in the U.S. only during Christmas spent nearly
28 billion US Dollar for gift cards. In the U.S., gift cards or
vouchers have already been the most popular Christmas present during the past 5 years. This trend is also visible in Germany. In the year 2010, gift cards or vouchers were on top of the
wish list for Christmas. For the year 2015 business forecasts of
PSE Consulting predict a sales volume of 132 Billion Euro for
prepaid cards in Europe, calculating 30 Billion Euro for gift
cards.
