for identification of the packing for firelighters for igniting solid fuels for use in
barbecue appliances in accordance with DIN EN 1860-3
The packaging must be indicated by the following data durably and in German language
well readably:
1. The DIN number and date of issue: DIN EN 1860-3:2003-12 or EN 1860-3:2003-12
2. Name and address of the manufacturer or the retailer/distributor
3. Product description: e.g. (preferably) “Grillanzündhilfe” (“barbecue firelighter”)
4. Instructions required for the safe and correct use of the firelighter. For example: “Grillen in
geschlossenen Räumen setzt einen Rauchabzug voraus. Kleinkinder sind vom Grill
fernzuhalten“ (“A chimney is required when barbecuing in enclosed spaces. Keep small
children away from the barbecue.”)
5. Danger warnings and safety notes in line with European legislation
(plus any additional required labelling for the country in which the product is to be sold)
6. Warnings and danger symbols in line with European legislation
(plus any additional required labelling for the country in which the product is to be sold)
7. If the product is manufactured in more than one location, there must be a clear way of
differentiating between the manufacturing sites. For example, you could use a number or a
sequence of letters. (DIN CERTCO must be informed of this labelling scheme.)
8. The following information, or information with a corresponding meaning:
• „VORSICHT! Zum Anzünden oder Wiederanzünden keinen Spiritus oder Benzin
verwenden!“ (“CAUTION! Do not use methylated spirit or petrol to ignite or reignite a
fire!”)
• „VORSICHT! Nur Anzündhilfen der Europäischen Norm für Anzündhilfen (EN 1860-3)
verwenden!“ (“CAUTION! Use only firelighters that comply with the European standard
for firelighters (EN 1860-3).”)
• Die Anzündhilfe muss vor dem Auflegen des Grillguts vollständig abgebrannt sein (The
firelighter must have fully burned away before food is placed on the barbecue)
• Der Barbecue-Brennstoff muss mit einer Ascheschicht bedeckt sein (Barbecue fuel must
be covered by a layer of ash)
• Für Kinder unzugänglich aufbewahren (Store out of reach of children)
9. The year of manufacture (this information must always be up to date); plus the batch number if
applicable
10. “DIN-Geprüft”-certification mark and registration number from DIN CERTCO
