Vehicle-recall-campaign
Recall-campaigns are ordered from the manufacturer and are only to execute, if they are
related to safety-components or –modifications.
The legal directive for a recall-campaign in Austria is § 40b (9) KFG 1967. Since
1st of July 2007, recall campaigns are only possible an allowed via the system of the
electronic type-approval-database.
Procedure and execution
The manufacturer or the manufacturer's representative in Austria sends the following
information to wvta Fahrzeugdaten GmbH (Email-adress: [email protected]):
• sample-customer-letter (in Word- or PDF-format)
• vehicle-identification-numbers (VIN) - list of the affected vehicles (in Excel-format)
By using "VDTS", a platform for transferring vehicle-data into the Austrian type-approvaldatabase (GDB), developed by wvta Fahrzeugdaten GmbH, the customer-letter and the
VINs are transferred into the GDB.
The vehicles are sent to the association of automobile insurances via the type-approval
database, which informs the registered keeper (= customer) via customer-letter and cover
letter.

Sehr geehrte Dame, sehr geehrter Herr!
Sie erhalten in der Beilage das Schreiben des Fahrzeugherstellers / Importeurs «HERSTELLER», mit dem Sie
gemäß § 40b (9) Kraftfahrgesetz 1967 über den Rückruf eines auf Sie zugelassenen Fahrzeuges informiert
werden. Dieser Rückruf erfolgt ausschließlich aus Sicherheitsgründen und betrifft Ihr Fahrzeug:
Kennzeichen: «KENNZEICHEN»
Marke: «MARKENBEZEICHNUNG»
Type: «TYPENBEZEICHNUNG»
Fahrgestellnummer: «FAHRGESTELLNUMMER»
Das Bundesministerium für soziale Sicherheit, Generationen und Konsumentenschutz, Sektion Konsumentenschutz, zuständig für die Vollziehung des Produktsicherheitsgesetzes 1994, BGBl. Nr. 63/1995, ersucht
Sie daher in Ihrem eigenen Interesse diesem Rückruf Folge zu leisten und die entsprechenden Überprüfungen bzw. Änderungen an Ihrem Fahrzeug vornehmen zu lassen. Nähere Details zur konkreten Abwicklung
sind im Begleitschreiben ausgeführt.

After wvta Fahrzeugdaten GmbH has transferred the data electronically into the
type-approval-database, the registered vehicle-keepers would be informed within 2 to 3
workingdays.
wvta Fahrzeugdaten GmbH gets feedback of every vehicle (e.g. "done"=registered,
"failed"=vahicle in stock but not registered, etc.) from the type-approval-database. wvta
Fahrzeugdaten provides summarizes this feedback (in an Excel-Sheet) and provides it the
manufacturer for monitoring.

Announcement and obligation to report
The manufacturer or the manufacturer's authorized representative has the obligation to
report the recall-campaign with all needed information to the Austrian federal ministry of
labour, social affairs and consumer protection (office of consumer protection, also see
http://www.bmsk.gv.at).
It is also obligated to inform the Austrian federal ministry of transport, innovation and
technology (office of type-approval, also see http://www.bmvit.gv.at).
Depending on the manufacturer's decision, it is also possible to inform the Austrian
automobile associations (like ÖAMTC or ARBÖ), the Austrian association for
consument-information and the media.
