Ports overview
The overseas ports are situated in the north of Bremerhaven. Europe‘s fourth largest
container port offers 14 deep water berths for the world’s largest container ships. There is
room for 120,000 passenger cars on the car terminal’s circulation and storage areas. On
the quay sides, offshore wind turbines are pre-assembled, stored and shipped. In the south
of Bremerhaven, the so-called ”fishing port“ (“Fischereihafen”) network has developed into
a multi-functional transfer site and special port for the offshore wind industry. An additional
offshore terminal in Bremerhaven’s Weser river will be ready for operation in 2014.

Häfenübersicht
Im Norden Bremerhavens liegen die Überseehäfen. 14 Liegeplätze für die größten
Containerschiffe der Welt bietet Europas viertgrößter Containerhafen. Auf den Verkehrsund Stellflächen der Autoterminals finden 120.000 PKW’s Platz. Auf den Flächen der
Kajen werden Offshore Windkraftanlagen vormontiert, gelagert und verschifft. Im Süden
hat sich die Hafengruppe „Fischereihafen“ zum multifunktionalen Umschlagsplatz und
Spezialhafen für die Offshore-Windindustrie entwickelt. Ein zusätzlicher Offshore-Terminal
in der Weser soll 2014 betriebsbereit sein.

Prospects for the future and
thinking outside of the box
The water and proximity to the sea have shaped Bremerhaven as a business location since the town
was founded in 1827. Over the past decades the town has developed into an innovative logistics
location with a brand-conscious fish and food industry, attractive tourist offerings and a trendsetting
research and development landscape – yet it has never forsaken its maritime identity.
In the niche markets for passenger and special-purpose ship building, the shipyards have established
themselves as developers of complex systems and special segments. In addition, over a short period,
Bremerhaven has developed into a centre of expertise, research and production for the offshore
wind energy industry. Taking as its base the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Scientific Marine
Research (AWI), a maritime-focused scientific environment has also emerged, with a new network of
more innovative, technology-oriented businesses.
The seaport of Bremerhaven takes on the challenges of the future, as it secures and develops the
advantages of the local economy, constantly optimises the port connections, develops a new offshore
terminal, and does much more besides this. We are looking forward to seeing you!

Perspektive Zukunft und
über den Tellerrand geschaut
Das Wasser und die Nähe zum Meer prägen seit der Stadtgründung 1827 den Wirtschaftsstandort
Bremerhaven. In den letzten Jahrzehnten hat sich die Stadt zum innovativen Logistikstandort mit einer
markenbewußten Fisch- und Lebensmittelwirtschaft, attraktiven touristischen Angeboten und einer
zukunftsweisenden Forschungs- und Entwicklungslandschaft entwickelt, aber dabei nie seine maritime
Identität aufgegeben.
Im Nischenmarkt des Passagier- und Spezialschiffbaus haben sich die Werften als Entwickler komplexer
Systeme und Spezialsegmente etabliert. Zudem hat sich Bremerhaven in kürzester Zeit zum Kompetenz-,
Forschungs- und Fertigungszentrum der Offshore-Windenergieindustrie entwickelt. Rund um das AlfredWegener-Institut für Polar- und Meeresforschung (AWI) ist mit einem neuen Netzwerk innovativer, technologieorientierter Unternehmen ebenfalls ein maritim geprägtes wissenschaftliches Umfeld entstanden.
Den Herausforderungen der Zukunft stellt sich die Seestadt Bremerhaven mit der Sicherung und dem
Ausbau der Standortvorteile, der ständigen Optimierung der Hafenanbindung, der Entwicklung eines
