Gemeinnützige Obstbau-Siedlung eG wurde am 28. Mai 1893 von
18 Berliner Vegetariern im Westteil der Stadt als erste
vegetarische Siedlung in Deutschland noch vor dem Monte Verità
unter dem ursprünglichen Namen Vegetarische Obstbau-Kolonie

18 vegetarians in the western part of the town as the first

ART AND SUSTAINTABILITY JOINT PROJECT
CALL FOR ARTISTS
In recent years Mexico City’s waste problem has drawn considerable attention from the citizens, which
is reflected in the emergence of various initiatives, such as the approval of laws regarding the
prevention and management of waste, the implementation of educational and environmental
programs, and the construction of new facilities, among others. Despite these efforts– many of which
lack continuity- it has been very difficult to bring about a noticeable change in the public conscience
and behavior concerning waste management, which indicates that is not solely a matter of public
administration, but one that demands the urgent attention and participation of all citizens.
Given these circumstances, the Goethe-Institut Mexiko and the UNAM have decided to collaborate in
st
a joint project committed to one of the most important challenges facing the 21 century:
environmental sustainability. With this in mind, a series of art projects will take place during the
months of May and July 2010, geared to encourage reflection and awareness on the shared
responsibility of waste management in the city and the possibility of actively contributing in finding a
solution.
