ROOT4
ROOT4 - the unique sound is a blend of dark electro and EBM,
interlaced with a pinch of finest synthpop.
The aggressive, "in-yer-face" stage presence makes ROOT4 one
of the most striking acts of the electro scene. Live drumming is part
of the program, and ROOT4 does not hesitate to experiment
effectively with instruments that are rather unusual for this genre,
overwhelming audiences with innovative sounds and tough-asnails beats.
The band's performance, the expressive vocals and the versatile
synthie-sounds make for an intense and captivating experience,
and the songs have a way of etching their way deep into the
listener's mind.
ROOT4 is: Hauke (vocals), PoupèeNoire (vocals, synthesizer) and
Martin (drums, percussion). Their motto: Speed it up!

The band was formed in 1990
ROOT4, whose roots lie in German synthpop, was formed in 1990 by Hauke
and Gunter. The band's first public performance was in 1993 at a live music
contest, where they played in front of an audience of around 300 guests, and
stood out from the rest for of the bands - who were all playing conventional
instruments such as guitar, bass and drums - by only using computers,
samplers and synthesizers. They made it to third place and started recording
their second album The Word in Mass.
In 1999, they recorded Follow Me, Give Me Your Love and Anthem at
Tunefish Music studio. The tracks were subsequently released on the Follow
Me EP.
Seven new tracks were recorded at Tunefish Music at the end of 2001, which were released in 2002 on the
band's third album In Your Life. ROOT4 achieved their breakthrough in the synthpop scene with In Your
Life, and the band quickly gained fame in Düsseldorf, Berlin and Chemnitz through their release parties.
A change of style in 2006
At the end of 2006, the musical style of the band moved away from its synthpop beginnings and towards a
dark electro sound. New band members brought in new influences, and 2008 marked the release of the
band's fourth album VorstellungsKraft, which took a year to record and was mixed at Yocamu and Tunefish
Music studios. The album was released on 18 July 2008 on the Sonic Boom Records label and introduced
to the public during a concert with the band Zeraphine at Colos-Saal in Aschaffenburg. Countless gigs at
clubs and festivals followed. In 2013, ROOT4 achieved second place among more than 60 bands at the
UnBaCo Underground Music Award. This was followed by performances at the Wave Gothic Treffen in
Leipzig and at several clubs.
Since 2014
Three new songs (Komm in mein Versteck, Zum Leben erwacht and Nachtangst) were produced at S.L.C.
Studios in Rödelheim and later released as singles.
2014 saw marked changes in ROOT4's line-up. Steffen (ex Schallfaktor) and Inga left the band for
personal and work-related reasons. They were replaced by PoupéeNoire, whose creative ideas have
since had a noticeable influence on the band's performance, stage act and style of song writing.
After the Electronic Transformers Tour 2014 through Germany (autumn 2014), ROOT4 also gained a large
following as live act. The band's live performance was revised and its image revamped. ROOT4 accepted
an invitation by a Russian event organizer to play at the Walpurgis Nacht Festival at the VOLTA live club in
Moscow, which brought the band into even wider public view internationally.
Currently ROOT4 is using an own recording studio to produce its music, and the band has become an
integral part of the Electronic Transformers Tour 2015 (autumn 2015).
In 2015, ROOT4 was booked as support act to Combichrist and OST+FRONT, and will be sharing the
stage with [:SITD:], De/Vision, Rotersand, In Strict Confidence, Solitary Experiments, Accessory, Tyske
Ludder and Stoneman, among others.
In 2016, ROOT4 will be playing at the Dark Munich Festival and
will support the band Stoneman on their Steine Tour 2016
through Germany, Switzerland and Austria. The band has also
been asked to play at the Berlin Gothic Treffen 2016 and the
Electronic Transformers Tour 2016.
