Welcome Dear Colleagues, Sternal dehiscence with or without infection is still a serious complication of median sternotomy. In case of reduced bone vitality, efforts of sternal refixation can be a challenging problem. The principle of rigid plate and screw osteosynthesis gained from orthopaedic surgery is a promising approach for sternal reconstruction in complicated cases. This workshop offers a combined didactic and laboratory program designed to provide the participants with the contemporary strategies in sternal wound treatment and bone management in cardio-thoracic surgery. The didactic sessions will be focused on concepts, strategies and modern techniques in the treatment of sternal complications. Laboratory sessions will include the use of osteosynthesis material on sternal defects and a presentation of the newest technical equipment and materials available. The workshop will bring together an international faculty whose members will lecture on their respective areas of expertise, lead laboratory sessions, and engage in informal case discussions with attendees. We hope to offer all participants a unique learning experience and look forward to welcoming you to Munich. Prof. Dr. med. Rüdiger Lange Dr. med.
