Welcometothethirdeditionof‘TheEnglishTimes’hereatBerthaKrupp Realschule. It’s quite hard to believe that we have filled 3
issuesalready,butIamverypleasedthatwearestillhereandgoing
strong!
With Easter just around the corner it seemed only appropriate to
make that the theme of this month’s edition. As always we have
providedafewseasonalphrasesforyoutolearninEnglish.
Once again I am very thankful to all the pupils who have written
articles and provided content for this issue, particularly to the
youngerpupilswhoarepracticingtheirEnglishskillsthattheyhave
onlybeenlearningsinceSeptember.
We welcome the Greshem’s School in Norfolk, England to our
newspaper, who are now also taking part in our joint project.

The British Culture Club at BKS is led by our foreign language
assistantKristanBiggs,whoisatourschoolforthisyear.
TheClubhasabout25membersatthemoment;mostofthem
areinYear5and6.
The club meets every Wednesday at 1:20 pm, after the 6th
lesson. They do lots of different things like eating English
chocolate, making paper-cups, making British flags, talking
aboutthedifferencebetweenWales,Scotland,NorthernIreland
andEnglandandattheirlastmeetingtheymadeEastercards
whicharesendingtoBurtononTrentinEngland,toourpartner
schoolthe‘deFerrersAcademy’.
Attheendofeachmeeting,everyonedrinksEnglishBreakfast
tea.Duringthemeeting,thechildrencanlistentoaBritishradio
station.
ThechildrenIaskedfortheiropinionsaidthattheyreallylike
beingamemberoftheclubandtheyarealwayslookingforward
todrinkingtheoriginalEnglishteaKrishasbrought.
Everyweek,therearemorefunthingstodoandeverybodyis
welcome.

AuchinEnglandwirdOsternmitderFamiliegefeiert,Eierwerdengesuchtundmansitztgemütlich
zusammen. Der Karfreitag wird in England ‚Good Friday‘ genannt und dieser Tag wird unterschiedlich
gefeiertandenTagvonJesusChristusgedachtundinkatholischenGegendenvonEnglandwirdandiesem
Taggefastet.
OsternverbindetdieMenschenmitdemOstersonntagwirddaseigentlicheFesteingeläutet,es
gleichtdemFestinDeutschlanddemUnterschied,dassoftsogenannte‚HotCrossBuns‘gegessenwerden.
‚HotCrossBuns‘sindsehrleckeregewürzteBrötchenmiteinemKreuzobendrauf-OstereierfürdieKinder
werdennatürlichauchversteckt.InEngland,Wales,SchottlandundIrlandwerdendieseallerdingstnicht
voneinemHasen,sondernvoneinemKanninchengebracht,daherderName‚EasterBunny‘.

GreetingstothestudentsfromthedeFerrersAcademyandGresham’sSchool.Ourschooliscalled
BerthaKruppRealschuleanditisinEsseninNorthRhine-Westphalia.Wehavecirca550pupilsand25
teachersattheschool.Wealsohavelotsofdifferentfacilitiesandroomsincluding;aworkshop,music
room,computerroomandkitchen.EssenisoneofthebiggestcitiesintheRuhrarea.Ithas50districts,9
townshipsandoverall566,862citizens.EssenistheshoppingcityinNRWandiswellknownfortheKrupp
family‘ZecheZollverein’.Thefamilylivedinthe‘VillaHügel’,oneofthemainsightsinEssen.
Our city is so big that we have a large central station. As a shopping city, we have the biggest
shoppingcentreintheRuhrarea.AswellwehavetheGRUGAswimmingpoolandGRUGAparkwhereyou
canspendsomegreatafternoons.Forgoodfilmeveningsthereisacinema,whichisacinemafromthe
biggestchain inEurope(Cinemaxx).Also forteenagersthere isanicehallherewhereyoucango iceskating.
AbouttheGermanschoolsystem,wecantellyouthatyoufirstgotoprimaryschoolfromtheages
of6or7until10or11yearsold.Afterthatyougotooneoffourdifferentsecondaryschoolsfromtheages
of10or11until16or17.WeareataRealschule.AfterourRealschuleexamsandgraduation,whichwe
doat16or17yearsold,youcanchooseifyouwanttogoontodoworkexperienceataBereufskollegeor
AbitursataGymnasiumorGesamtschule.Atouruniversitiestherearenofeesandyouhavetopayasmall
contributiontowardsthingssuchastraveltickets,booksormaterials.

Ich bin Karoline Piller, 25 Jahre alt und ich komme aus Köln. Derzeit allerdings wohne ich in Nord
Norfolk in England und arbeite in Holt an der Gresham's School als deutsche Fremdsprachenassistentin.
WarumtauchtmeinPostaberaufeinmalbeidiesemProjektauf?Dasisteinfachzuerklären:ichbin
auch Ambassador bei der UK-German Connection aber durch unglückliche Umstände ist es nicht mehr
möglich,dassichmeinursprünglichesProjektmitmeinerProjektpartnerinweiterführenkann.Kristianund
Kristinwarensonett,michundmeinerSchüleraufzunehmen.
InKölnstudiereichimMasterLehramtfürsonderpädagogischeFörderungmitdenFächernDeutsch
undEnglisch.BevorichmichaberanmeineMasterarbeitunddasReferandariatwage,wollteichmirnoch
eineAuszeitgönnenundendlichmalineinemenglischsprachigenLandleben.
Mein Weg hat mich dann nach Holt geführt und ich habe die Möglichkeit bekommen, an einem
englischenInternatzuarbeiten.DieArbeitmachtmirgroßenSpaß,ichhabevieleverschiedeneSchülerInnen,
ausunterschiedlichenLändernundmitganzverschiedenenDeutschkenntnissen.Eswirdalsonielangweilig

showingmydancingskillstosomeoneIdidn’tknowbecauseI'mtooshyandIdon'thavealotofconfidence
liketheothersbutIhopethatinthefutureIwillbecomemoreconfidentandcanshowothersmydancing.
