FOURTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
LITURGICAL EVENTS
Welcome Fr. Roberto Suárez
We welcome Fr. Roberto Suárez to our
parish. Saint Jude will be Fr. Roberto’s
first assignment as a priest. He was
ordained as a priest on Saturday, June 25,
by Archbishop Gregory in a solemn
ceremony at the Cathedral of Christ the
King.
Fr. Roberto grew up in Colombia. He is
the son of Roberto Suarez and Margarita
Barbosa and has one brother and two
sisters. He attended St. Bonaventure
Franciscan University in Bogota,
Colombia, and completed a degree in
philosophy at the Archdiocesan Seminary of Monterrey, Mexico. He
completed his formation at the University of St. Mary of the Lake Mundelein Seminary in Chicago. Fr. Roberto also studied English at Georgia
State University. In his spare time, he enjoys reading, watching movies
and playing the guitar.
Please join us in the courtyard after the 8:30 am, 10:00 am, 11:30 am and
1:00 pm Masses today to meet him. Please pray for Fr. Roberto that his
new vocation will bring many years of joy to his life.

Anointing of the Sick
Rescheduled to Monday, July 11
The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick has been rescheduled to
Monday, July 11 the 6:00 pm Mass because of the July 4 holiday. You can
also receive this sacrament by appointment with a priest at any time. All
who are sick or suffering are invited to receive anointing.

up to learn more about Jesus and
the Catholic faith. You can help by
becoming a catechist for Faith
Formation in any one of our various
programs. As you nurture the faith
of our young, you will learn and
grow as well! As one long-time
catechist put it, “I learn so much
from the children!” We provide you
with training, materials, and
support. Classes begin September 11.

2016-17 Religious Education Registration Underway
Registration is now open for our 2016-17 Parish School of Religion (PSR).
We offer programs for children age 3 through 12th grade. Traditional and
Montessori-based classes are available for pre-school and elementary-aged
children. We also offer specialized religious education for those who learn
differently, and a Special Sacraments Class for those children age 7 or
older who have not had the two years of required formation for receiving
First Eucharist. For more information or to register and pay online visit

Catechists, for whom the fees are waived, and those who prefer to pay by
cash or check can register in person at the Parish Office. Questions or

St. Jude Preschool Openings
The St. Jude Parish Preschool has limited openings for the
2016-17 school year. We provide a nurturing, loving
Christian environment for our children. The program runs
September through May from 9:00 am – 12:30 pm.

victims of war, oppression, and disasters.

to this year’s Archbishop’s Annual
Appeal. To date, we have received 94%
toward our goal of $196,820. For those
who have not yet pledged, please remember the Archdiocese returns 100% of any overage back to our parish. If we
do not reach our goal, we are required to make up the shortfall from our

Monthly Second Collection for SVdP
All Masses - Next Weekend - July 9-10
On the second weekend of each month, St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP)
volunteers will be at the church doors to collect donations for our local

Bienvenido Padre Roberto Suárez
Le damos una cordial bienvenida al Padre
Roberto Suárez a nuestra parroquia St. Jude the
Apostle, la primera parroquia asignada al padre
Roberto como sacerdote. El Padre Roberto fue
ordenado el sábado 25 de junio por el
Arzobispo Gregory, durante una solemne
ceremonia en la Catedral Christ the King.
El Padre Roberto creció en Colombia, es hijo
de Roberto Suárez y Margarita Barbosa, y
tiene un hermano y dos hermanas. Estudió
en la Universidad Franciscana San
Buenaventura, en Bogotá Colombia, y
obtuvo un grado en filosofía en el Seminario
Arquidiocesano de Monterrey, México. Completó su educación en el
Seminario de la Universidad St. Mary of The Lake Mundelein, en Chicago. El
Padre Roberto también estudió inglés en la Universidad Georgia State. En sus
ratos libres, disfruta la lectura, ver películas y tocar la guitarra. Les invitamos

Catequese do Papa Francisco - Vaticano 22 de Junho de 2016
“Senhor, se queres, podes purificar-me!” (Lc 5, 12): é o
pedido que ouvimos um leproso dirigir a Jesus. Este
homem não pede somente para ser curado, mas para
ser purificado, isso é, curado integralmente, no corpo
e no coração. De fato, a lepra era considerada uma
forma de maldição de Deus, de impureza profunda. O leproso devia ficar longe
de todos; não podia ir ao templo e nem a nenhum serviço divino. Longe de
Deus e longe dos homens. Triste vida tinha esse povo!
Apesar disso, aquele leproso não se resigna nem à doença nem às disposições
que fazem dele um excluído. Para alcançar Jesus, não teve medo de infligir a lei
e entrou na cidade – o que não devia fazer, era-lhe vedado – e quando o
encontrou “jogou-se diante dele rezando: Senhor, se queres, podes purificarme”. Tudo aquilo que este homem considerado impuro faz e diz é expressão da
sua fé! Reconhece o poder de Jesus: está seguro que tenha o poder de curá-lo e
que tudo depende da sua vontade. Esta fé é a força que lhe permitiu romper
toda convenção e procurar o encontro com Jesus e, ajoelhando-se diante Dele, o
chama “Senhor”. A súplica do leproso mostra que quando nos apresentamos a
Jesus não é necessário fazer longos discursos. Bastam poucas palavras, mas que
sejam acompanhadas da plena confiança na sua onipotência e na sua bondade.
Confiar-nos à vontade de Deus significa de fato confiar na sua infinita
misericórdia. Também eu farei uma confidência pessoal. À noite, antes de ir pra
cama, rezo esta breve oração: “Senhor, se queres, podes purificar-me!”. E rezo
cinco “Pai Nosso”, um por cada chaga de Jesus, porque Jesus nos purificou com

Inscrições abertas para catequese 2016/2017
Obrigada por fazerem a opção de estarem conosco em
comunidade. A catequese é algo permanente, não inicia e
nem termina com os sacramentos. Começa na família,
através do exemplo dos responsáveis pela educação da
criança/jovem. Os catequistas apenas enriquecem a
bagagem que eles recebem em suas casas. Mais do que livros e atividades,
nossas crianças e jovens precisam de modelos a serem seguidos. Peçamos
as bençãos de Jesus e Maria para que possamos ser instrumentos de Deus

Baptismal Preparation
A parent preparation class for all children under 7 years of age is held on the
3rd Sunday of the month in the Ministry Building Library from 3:00 pm to
4:30 pm.
Counseling Services
Consulting a qualified, professional therapist to assist in overcoming life’s
problems can be an important decision for you or your family. For
appointments and referrals, please call 404-920-7745 (English and Español).
Counselors meet with parishioners in the Ministry Building. Sliding scale fee
available.
Crisis Pregnancy Center Hotline
Any woman who is pregnant and needs support can contact the Pregnancy Aid
Clinic: 404-763-HELP (4357).
Divine Mercy Devotion
Thursdays after the 6:00 pm Mass.
Eucharistic Adoration
Tuesdays from 8:00 am - 6:00 pm during the school year in the Church.
Lost and Found
Located in the Ushers Room. Any unclaimed items will be donated to charity
on the last Thursday of the month.
Marriage Preparation
Contact a parish priest or deacon at least six months in advance of your
planned wedding date for required marriage preparation.
Ministry to the Sick
Priests or lay ministers bring communion to parishioners on weekdays. Lay
ministers visit the home-bound on Sundays. Please call Chris G. at
770-394-3896 ext. 257 to schedule a visit.
Nursery
Open during the 8:30 am & 10:00 am Masses on Sundays in Rooms B & C
during the school year. Children age 3 months to 4 years are welcome.
Nocturnal Adoration
On the first Friday of the month, from 9:00 pm to Saturday at 7:00 am in the
Adoration Chapel.
Rosary
Weekdays after the 6:00 pm Mass.
St. Vincent de Paul
Any parishioner in need of financial assistance can contact St. Vincent de Paul
at 678-990-2969. Hours are Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 am -3:00 pm
and Saturday from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
