Eignung
Die Edelstahleinbautastaturen der ERGON-MF2-Baureihe empfehlen sich für repräsentative Eingabeplätze in vandalismusgefährdeten bzw. stark beanspruchten Bereichen (z.B. für Auskunftsysteme, Bankanwendungen, Point of SalesAnwendungen, Industrieanwendungen), bei denen trotzdem auf Betätigungskomfort (Schnellschreibfähigkeit) Wert
gelegt wird.
Die Tastaturen haben über die Frontplatte hervorstehende Tasten mit einem Tastenhub von ca. 1,6 mm und einer
Betätigungskraft von ca. 0,9 N. Diese Eigenschaften liegen im Bereich üblicher Büroeingabetastaturen. Die Tastenkappen sind abzugssicher und haben einen engen Spalt zur Frontplatte, so dass sie nicht einfach blockiert werden
können. Die Betätigungskräfte werden durch eine stabile Metallplatte abgefangen, die Tastatur ist wasserdicht und
entspricht frontseitig der Schutzart IP65 (Version mit Trackball IP 54).
Die Dichtung wird durch eine unter den Tastenkappen angebrachte Elastomermatte erreicht. Obwohl damit Eindringen
von Flüssigkeiten ins Innere der Tastatur verhindert wird, ist es konstruktionsbedingt möglich, daß Flüssigkeit unter die
Tastenkappen dringen kann. Dieses ist für die Funktion ohne Bedeutung, kann jedoch im Freien zu Vereisung führen.
Deshalb ist der Einsatz im ungeschützten Außenbereich nicht zu empfehlen.
Die Tastaturen erfüllen bauartbedingt nicht alle ergonomischen Anforderungen an Tastaturen im Bürobereich. Zu nennen sind hier z.B. Anforderungen an die Tastenbetätigung (Tastenkraft, -form und -anordnung), sowie an Glanzgrad
und Farben der Oberflächen. Aus diesem Grund ist die Tastatur nicht geeignet für die Eingabe von Mengentext oder
bei überwiegender Benutzung am Arbeitsplatz.
Inbetriebnahme
Je nach Ausführung werden die Tastaturen mit einem oder zwei Kabeln mit je einem PS/2-Stecker bzw. mit einem
USB-Kabel ausgeliefert. Das Tastaturkabel (lila) ist am

Trackball / Touchpad
Der eingebaute Trackball bzw. das Touchpad ist kompatibel zu Standard Win 95, 98, NT4.0, 2000 Mousetreibern.
Hardware-Feature des TouchPads wie Simulation der linken und rechten Mousetaste sowie Doppelclick und Ziehen
bei gedrückter linker Mousetaste sind immer verfügbar. Erweiterte Funktionen des TouchPads können jedoch nur
nach Installation der aktuellen Treiber genutzt werden. Diese sind unter http://www.cirque.com/support/drivers.html per
Download verfügbar (der Zugang erfolgt über die Serien-Nr. 1G2-0015698).
Einbau
Zum dichten Einbau in eine Frontplatte ist die Anlagefläche durchgehend geschlossen und eben zu gestalten, so dass
die Elastomermatte ringsherum gut anliegt. Die Tastatur ist von hinten mit der vorgesehenen Anzahl von Gewindebolzen / Schrauben zu befestigen, damit die Elastomermatte mit genügendem Anpressdruck an der Frontplatte aufliegt. Durch die Ausführung der Dichtungslippe sind Frontplattendicken von 1,5 bis 4 mm möglich. Bei dünneren Frontplatten muss ein zusätzlicher Dichtrahmen eingebracht werden, bei dickeren Frontplatten muss eine Ausfräsung im
Dichtungsbereich vorgenommen werden. (Hierzu bitte den beiliegenden Einbauvorschlag berücksichtigen). Bei Versionen für Fronteinbau ist die gehäuseseitige Abdichtung kundenseitig zu realisieren. Ein im Lieferumfang befindliches
PUR-Dichtband (einseitig klebend) kann dafür verwendet werden.
Pflegehinweise
Die Oberfläche der Tastatur sowie die Tasten bestehen aus Edelstahl. Die Tastatur kann mit Edelstahlpflegemitteln
gereinigt werden. Es dürfen jedoch keine scheuernden Mittel verwendet werden, da Kratzer entstehen können1.

Stainless steel keyboards – ERGON – MF2

Directions for use
The stainless steel keyboards of our ERGON-line are suited for representative human machine interface systems in demanding or hostile and vandalism endangered environments (e.g. information systems, banking applications, point of sales applications, industrial applications), where frequent data input by different users is typical,
but easy typing is required as well.
The actuation force of appr. 0,9 N and the key travel of about 1,6 mm are comparable to standard office keyboards. The keycaps are raised above the surface and are protected against pulling out and twisting. Narrow
slits between keytops and front panel make it difficult to block the keys. Excessive forces to the keys are supported by a rigid metall plate. The keyboard is protected from the front to IP65, versions with trackball to IP54
(according to IEC 529). The sealing is realized by an elastomer rubber mat mounted between keycaps and
housing. Although ingress of fluids into the keyboard is prevented, fluids may get below the keycaps. This does
not affect the function of the keyboard but unprotected outdoor operation is not recommended.
As a consequence of the method of construction, some ergonomic requests for keyboards are not observed.
These are for instance requests to the key actuation (force, shape of key caps, keyboard layout), as well as reflection and color of the surface. Therefore the keyboard is not recommended to enter mass data or to be used
for extended amounts of time as the main keyboard on a PC working station.
Installation notes
The keyboards are delivered with one or two cables each with a 6 pin PS/2-plug or with one USB-cable. The cables have to be plugged on to the corresponding keyboard (purple), mouse (green) or USB terminals of the PC.

Trackball / Touchpad
The built-in pointing device is compatible to the standard PS/2-Mouse-driver. The Touchpad is fully compatible
with standard Windows 95, 98, NT 4.0 and 2000 mouse drivers. No additional driver is required to activate many
of the advanced features since they are embedded directly in the touchpad's hardware. Hardware configurable
options in the touchpad's circuitry allow advanced features such as taps, corner taps, wheel-mouse scroll and
others to be enabled or disabled depending on each customer's specific needs. However, for applications requiring greater flexibility, drivers for various operating systems are available at http://www.cirque.com/support/drivers.html which allows users to enable and disable advanced features, personalize settings, and reprogram buttons
(use serial number 1G2-0015698 for download).
Mounting
To achieve the specified protection system of the mounted keyboard, the support area of the front plate has to
be even and has to cover the sealing lip of the keyboard completely. The keyboard has to be fastended with the
re-commended number of studs/screws, to get enough pressure to the sealing. Due to the design of the sealing
lip, the thickness of the front plate may vary between 1,5 and 4 mm. Use an additional sealing frame to mount
into thinner front plates, reduce the thickness inside the sealing area to mount to thicker frontplates. Also refer to
the enclosed mounting recommendations (drawing „Einbauvorschlag"). Versions for front panel mounting have
to be sealed to the housing by the customer. An adhesive PUR gasket strip is provided in the accessories.
Cleaning
The surface of the keyboard and the keycaps are made of stainless steel. For cleaning and protection against
fingerprints, spots or stains use mild domestic detergents, suitable for stainless steel. Use a soft cloth to wipe
the surface. Do not use any cleaning agents that contain abrasives, to avoid the surface to get scratched 2.
