SHORT DESCRIPTION:
Ethiopia’s wealth of historic sites and an identity defined by
its own history and diverse cultures rather than by colonialism is what distinguishes it
from most other African destinations.
MEDA’s Ethiopians Driving Growth through Entrepreneurship and Trade (EDGET) and
Ethiopians fighting against Child Exploitation (E-FACE) aim to provide the right tools and
support so that Ethiopians can take advantage of the country having the fifth-fastest
growing economy in the world. The Primary goal of this trip will be to meet and learn
from the weavers, designer, rice farmers, processors and others participating in these two
projects.
MEDAs Projekte „ÄthiopierInnen erreichen Wachstum durch Unternehmertum und
Handel“ (EDGET) und „ÄthiopierInnen kämpfen gegen die Ausbeutung von Kindern“ (EFACE) zielen darauf ab, die richtigen Werkzeuge und Unterstützungen anzubieten, damit
die einfache Bevölkerung die Vorteile der am fünftschnellsten wachsenden Wirtschaft der
Welt in ihrem Land nutzen können. Das primäre Ziel dieser Reise ist WeberInnen,
DesignerInnen, Reisbauern, Verarbeitern und anderen in diesen Projekten zu begegnen
und MEDAs Arbeit kennen zu lernen und teilzuhaben. Daneben tauchen wir in die reiche
Kultur Äthiopiens ein und besuchen die Städte ADDIS ABABA, BAHIRDAR & LALIBELA.
As well, only few nations can boast the historic splendor of Ethiopia the evidence of
whose glorious past is well preserved to date in the form of mind-boggling rock hewn
complexes, incredible giant monoliths, legendary palaces and castles, priceless collections
of ancient paintings, icons manuscripts and above all its hospitable people with their
countless artifacts and treasures. Therefore, this 8 days, fascinating OMO TOUR & CAR
RENT TOUR takes you through a magnificent scenic world of fairy-tale names such as
ADDIS ABABA, BAHIRDAR & LALIBELA which every destination contributes in making
the past to come alive in this fascinating LAND in the form of strange and beautiful
people, landscapes, and paintings.

FRIDAY, JANUARY 30, 2015 DEPARTURE FROM FRANKFURT TO
ADDIS ABABA

DAY1. SATURDAY, JANUARY 31, 2015 ARRIVAL
Arrive in Addis Ababa Bole-International Air port Terminal 2, at 6:15, and after a warm
greeting at the airport by the MEDA Staff & the tour organizer (OMO TOURS & CAR
RENT) representative, transfer to SARO MARIA Hotel. After check in and breakfast at the
Hotel, the group will get in to the arranged bus for day excursion trip to MELKA
KUNTURE excavation site, ADADI MARIAM church (13th century rock hewn church) and
TIYA monolithic stelae site (One of the UNESCO registered heritage sites of the country).
Late in the afternoon drive back to the capital city and check in to your hotel. Dinner is
covered by the guests. Turkish and Beer garden are some of the local restaurants found
near to your hotel.

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 01, 2015 ADDIS ABABA
Morning, after breakfast, drive to Ethiopian MKC church to participate in the service for
2Hours. Lunch break in LUCY GAZEBO restaurant and in the afternoon engage yourself
in visiting the sites of the capital city. The city tour includes:- the National Museum (The
house of the oldest 3.2million years old hominid “LUCY/DINKNESH”), The trinity
Cathedral church (The final resting place of the last SOLOMONIC Emperor Hailesilassie I
& His wife Empress MENEN) and if time allows drive to the highest pick of the capital to
enjoy the panoramic view of the city. In the evening dinner will be in YOD Abyssinia
cultural and traditional restaurant.

In the morning, after breakfast, join MEDA Ethiopia staff in their office for an overview
of MEDA’s projects within the country and visit the Addis project sites. At about 15:00
drive to Addis Ababa Airport terminal 1 to check in and fly to BAHIRDAR, a modern
town on the shore of Lake Tana, after check-in to the hotel.

95kms to LIBO KEMKEM, YIFAG; visit
a rice processor which was purchased
by a cost sharing base with MEDA.
Continue driving to Shina Tsion to visit
the farmers field school and see the
impact of the new technology .Then
drive back from Shina to Bahirdar
In
the afternoon, after a short lunch break, drive to Blue Nile fall “Tis-issat” about 32kms
(1hour drive). After we take our entrance ticket from the ticket office, we drive to cross
the Blue Nile River with boat which will take a total of 25-30minutes to get to the water
fall. At Tis-issat, you will get a chance to see the “smoke of the Nile” walking closely.

important. In addition, meet members of a village savings and Loan Association to learn
about their income generating activities; share experiences and finally drive back to

lake of the country “LAKE TANA” to visit the island monasteries like KIBRAN GABRIEL,
URA KIDANEMIHRET and the outlet of the Blue Nile River.

the rock hewn churches of Lalibella
which are known as the first group of

churches according to their geographical location. After the visit, @10:00, drive to
LALIBELA airport to check in and fly back to Addis Ababa.From the airport drive to
MEDA office to meet EDGET (designers and weavers) .Then Check in to Saro Maria

the ages of 14 – 17 attending technical vocational training. Learn how these training
courses can offer young people a technical skill for life; after lunch break, do your last
minute shopping and in the evening, you will be a guest of OMO TOURS & CAR RENT
for a fair-well dinner in 2000 HABESHA restaurant (www.2000habesha.net), which is
found at about 8 km away from MEDA office and about 1 KM far from SARO MARIA
HOTEL, located on NAMIBIA St. opposite to SOS Children Main office and next to
KABU Coffee, then after taking part in eating the Ethiopian food and attend the folkloric
dance be transferred to the Addis Ababa Bole International Airport terminal 2 for your
flight back home @1:00.
