winds in mind.
In addition, Fancourt has an exceptional golf academy that houses a state-of-the-art
teaching facility, backed up by the expertise of PGA professionals. To keep golfers
looking the part, there are two well-stocked pro shops, offering a wide variety of
clothing, accessories and hardware.

Located in South Africa's North West Province, but only 2-hours drive from
Johannesburg, Sun City is a vibrant mix of entertainment, watersports, golf, gambling
and family fun - a lush and tropical fantasyland deep in the African bushveld. This,

Sun City can lay claim to having two of the best golf courses in Africa. Both courses were
designed by the well-known Gary Player and offer challenging par-72 courses in

The Palace of the Lost City
The Palace of the Lost City is one of the most extraordinary hotels in the world - a pure
fantasy land of opulence and luxury. Attention to detail was key when creating this 338
roomed hotel - the interior is adorned with mosaics, murals and artwork and guests are
treated to lavish 5-star service. Surrounding the Palace is 25-hectares of botanical jungle

Sun City Facilities
Food & Drink - A host of restaurants to choose from offering everything from oriental

The Montagu - Fancourt
The Fancourt Golf Resort was recently ranked in the top 10 Golf Resorts
in the world, and is the only Golf Resort in South Africa with 3
breathtaking Golf courses, all originally designed by Gary Player. The
Montagu course is a much celebrated parkland course and has been
ranked as the number-one golf course in South Africa in the past. Play is
restricted to members, their guests and hotel guests, so there is ample
time and space to savour the Fancourt golfing experience. It is,
however, always a good idea to book in advance to ensure that you get
your desired tee time. Fancourt also boasts a world class Golf Academy,
with outstanding practise and warm-up facilities.
The Outeniqua - Fancourt
Outeniqua, named after the mountain range that overlooks the area
has a different look than the Montagu, so they complement each other
perfectly as varying playing experiences. The Outeniqua is regarded as
the easier course of the two, being more open in appearance, yet it has
its share of challenges and risk-and-reward moments. Water hazards
or streams come into play on as many as 11 of the holes, including 4 of
the last 5. The warm-up area, featuring a full-length range and a
chipping and bunker practice area, is available to all golfers before play.
Golf carts are available for hire, weather permitting.
The Links - Fancourt
Created from a previously flat piece of land, over 700 000 cubic metres
of earth was moved in transforming The Links at Fancourt from an
airstrip into a typical Links style course. The course presents undulating
windswept terrain and dune-style landscape - The result being an aweinspiring course eliciting praise from some of the world’s finest golfers.
Every hole has attention to detail ensuring overall balance in terms of
length, position of hazards and shot values are in harmony. As a result,
The Links presents a stern test in all weather conditions and bound to
test the best golfer in every way. One of the extraordinary holes
include the par-3 second, with its bunker in the heart of the enormous
green. The Links at Fancourt is a private club, with play restricted to
members and their invited guests.

Pinnacle Point – Mossel Bay
The Pinnacle Point Golf Course is something truly unique for the
discerning golfer. This 18 hole championship golf course was designed by
well-known South African golf course architect Peter Matkovich who
opened the course together with top Irish Tour Golf Professional Darren
Clarke in November 2006. Darren Clarke, who was also involved with
many aspects of the Pinnacle Point course design, has said that Pinnacle
Point is “... the best golf course on the planet.” This Cliff top Fynbos Golf
Course inspires the golfer to play this challenging layout with a level of
respect due to its dramatic views and breath-taking terrain. The 72 par
layout is characterised by 7 majestic holes that line the Indian Ocean rock
cliffs, four of which are played over ocean and cliff. All 18 holes have been
designed to fit the contours of the land.
Simola
Set below the high ridges, Simola Golf Course is free from the wind that
so often plagues coastal courses. Fairways flow with the natural
undulating contours of the terrain and the unusual configuration of five
par 5's and five par 3's adds a new dimension to the game. It's par for the
course that every hole boasts exceptional views; either out across the
Knysna Lagoon all the way to the Heads or over the picturesque Knysna
River as it twists and turns through the valley below. It goes without
saying that a course as great as Simola should have a club house to
match. The Simola Golf Clubhouse forms part of the recently opened
Simola Hotel. Guests and members have access to hotel facilities like our
gourmet restaurant, indoor pool and Wellness Centre.
Pezula
The Pezula Golf Course is a “Scottish links-style" course with a similar look
to that of Gleneagles in the Scottish Highlands and Pebble beach on the
Monterey coastline. Featuring cool-season grasses and five different tee
placements to satisfy, challenge and reward all golfers. The varied coastal
terrain offers a complete golfers' menu requiring a full range of shots
with signature holes having been earmarked as the 13th and 14th. The
area known as the East Heads has become the site of 18 spectacular
championship holes of golf at Pezula and 250 hectares of well-planned
residential properties and natural fynbos growth

Oubaai – Herolds Bay
The first of the Ernie Els signature courses in South Africa, and proud of it,
Oubaai is golfing heaven. The course is idyllic yet challenging and
wrapped up in the most breath-taking scenery the Garden Route, indeed
all of South Africa, has to offer. Perched on the edge of the hill cliffs
leading down toward the Indian Ocean and with the Outeniqua Mountain
Range behind it, the club really does enjoy the best of both worlds. The
fairways undulate over the hilly terrain and the grounds are in pristine
condition. Veld vegetation lines the kikuyu fairways over the courses
unusually lengthy (for a coastal course) 6516 metres, which bears
testament to the size of the estate just 8 kilometres outside of George.
Gary Player Golf Course
The Gary Player Golf Course is the measure and the very best golfing
course in South Africa, if indeed not the entire African continent. The
course has consistently outranked all other South African golfing estates
since its inception in 1979 and has been host to the Nedbank Challenge
since 1981. Designed by Gary Player, this parkland gem has wonderfully
knitted kikuyu fairways and bent greens that run true. It measures in at
over 7000m (7105m to be precise) and is therefore one of the longest
courses in the world, meaning that if you want to keep up with the
demanding course, a measure of stamina is recommended. Accuracy too,
as the championship course has incorporated every cunning measure
available to keep you on your toes. The fairways are immaculate and
generally wide and although the course is known as “flat” don’t let that
deceive you into thinking it’s easy. Top players from all around the world
see the Gary Player Golf Course as a true test of golf and have all fallen
for its tricks at some point along the eighteen.
The Lost City Golf Course
Located in Sun City is another titan of the South African courses – the
Lost City Golf Course. This masterpiece was sculpted out of the
surrounding hills and rocky terrain by none other than Gary Player
himself. The gargantuan course spans more than 1000 hectares and
incorporates 28 000m² of water hazards. Golfers of all abilities will
undoubtedly enjoy the wide fairways and receptive greens on offer as
well as the thrill of playing one the rare “downhill” courses in South
Africa. The vista’s from the course are simply majestic and transport one
into an unknown realm and with the Palace against the backdrop of
emerald hills it truly feels that you are in an “other-worldly” environment.
Apart from the regular distractions of blind pins, and devious bunker
placements the course incorporates one of the most dangerous 13th
holes on the planet for it has no fewer than 38 Nile crocodiles lying in
wait for your wayward strokes. Unsurprisingly, golfers are very much
discouraged from any sort of retrieval attempts.
