Speed Snacks - Rules
The lightning-fast snack bar cooking duel for ages 8 and up
“Sushi, please.“ – “Where is my kebab?“ – “I‘d rather have the dish-of-the-day!“
Phew, the day-to-day business of a snack bar owner is not a cakewalk. There are disgruntled customers
that are complaining about their late food order but keep changing it all the time.
“Hurry up! Where are my 3 orders of fries?“ Therefore, you are left with no other choice: Yell your orders into
the kitchen and pray that everything will work out. “The pizza is done!“ And to add insult to injury you have been
surprised with a visit from the public health office – someone claims to have seen some cockroaches. All in a hard
day’s work of someone who is trying to be owner of the first snack bar to reach a 5-toque* rating ...
* In Austria the quality of a kitchen is not rated in a number of stars but rather “toques“.

Goal of the Game
You and your competitor are both proud owners of snack
bars. Snack Bars with big ambitions no less! You try to fulfill the orders to your customers‘ satisfaction. This happens
simultaneously. You both have access to the same draw pile
from which you get Snack cards. These cards can either
be the 1 to 5 open orders of the customers you are vying
for, or the 1 to 5 hidden kitchen cards with which you are
trying to fulfill these orders – you decide! The player who
can satisfy the customers‘ orders better will win the round
and receive a precious toque. The first player to receive his
fifth toque will be the winner!

Take the 66 Snack cards and the 5 cards “Hurry up!“ and
shuffle them together into a shared draw pile. Put this draw
pile face-down between you and your opponent. Leave
enough space for the 5 customers‘ orders piles.
Place the 9 Toque cards next to the shared draw pile.
Right in front of each player, there has to be enough space
for each player’s 5 kitchen piles.

Flow of Play
What can you do with a Snack card?
If you have a Snack card in your hand, there are 2 placement
possibilities for it:
You play Speed Snacks over the course of several rounds.
The player who sports the least food stains on his clothes is
the starting player of the first round. In subsequent rounds
it will be the player who has lost the previous round (or if
the players tied, who currently has the least toques – if there
is still a tie, the starting player will be the player who first
realizes this last tie and shouts: ”Speed Snacks!”).
open, as a customer’s order
in the middle of the table
OR
hidden, in front of you as a kitchen card.
As the starting player, you place your hand on the shared
draw pile. Then, if both players feel ready, the round begins
with the starting payer shouting ”Speed Snacks!” and drawing the first card.
Notes on the Flow of Play

custom
Note 1: In Speed Snacks you don’t play one turn after
another but rather simultaneously. However fast you like
to do it, you can draw 1 card, look at it and place it as a
customer‘s order or into your kitchen. Once placed, you
can immediately draw another card. So it is quite possible that, while you have looked at your card and placed it,
your opponent could have drawn, looked at and placed 3
more cards in the meantime. The only thing that is important: to fulfill the customers‘ orders as best as possible.
de
Note 2: During the whole course of the game you may
only ever use 1 hand. Therefore: If one of you is rightand the other left-handed, place the shared draw pile so
that each person can use the preferred hand. If both of
you prefer the same hand, switch the positions of the
shared draw pile after each round to counteract the
slight disadvantage of one player.

Customers‘ Orders
If you want to place the Snack card openly in the middle of
the table as a customer’s order, then you may either create a
new pile with it or place it on an already existing pile. Place
the cards, so that only the top-most card of each pile is visible. Keep in mind, that you can only have a maximum of 5
customers‘ orders piles in the middle of the table.
After you have drawn a card, you now hold one of these two
card types:

The Kitchen
If you put the Snack card in front of you as a hidden kitchen
card, then you may either create a new pile with it or place it
on an already existing pile. Place the card face-down as the
top-most card of the pile. Keep in mind, that you can only
have a maximum of 5 kitchen card piles in front of you.

Important: Once a card has been placed in one of your
kitchen piles, you cannot look at it again. So remember carefully where you placed each card and which one is currently
the top-most card in each pile.
a “Hurry up!“ card

Scoring
What can you do with the “Hurry up!“ card?
The moment you draw a card “Hurry up!“, you yell “Hurry
up!“. With this, you shortly interrupt the game – if your opponent currently has a card in his hand, he may not place it.
Before play continues you have to place the “Hurry up!“ card
openly (and slightly overlapping so that the snack underneath
can still be seen) onto 1 of the customers‘ orders piles in the
middle of the table. Once a card “Hurry up!“ has been placed
onto one of these piles no further Snack or “Hurry up!“ card
may be placed onto that pile for the remainder of the round.
Each player reveals the top-most face-down Snack card of
each of their kitchen piles in front of them (this will be a
maximum of 5 cards per player). Now compare the revealed
Snack cards in the kitchen with the customers‘ orders in the
middle of the table. Each snack in your kitchen is worth as
many points as there are matching customers‘ orders in the
middle of the table. If there are, for example, 3 customers‘
orders for Hotdogs in the middle of the table, then each Hotdog snack in your kitchen is worth 3 points. Whoever manages to score more points now, wins the current round and
receives 1 Toque card. If both of you had the same amount
of points, each of you receives 1 Toque card.

Player B:
Special Cases: If no customer’s order has been played yet,
or all customers‘ orders have a “Hurry up!” card on them,
you have to open a new customer’s order pile with this “Hurry
up!“ card. One time only during this round, one of you may
slide a Snack card under the “Hurry up!“ card, then the pile
is closed. Once the drawn “Hurry up!“ card has been placed
correctly, play resumes.
Every drawn card has to be placed in one of the aforementioned ways – no card may ever be simply discarded.
As soon as the 4th card “Hurry up!“ has been placed on the
customers‘ orders piles, the current round ends. If a player
still has an unplaced card, it may not be placed. (If the situation should arise, that both players have a card in their hands
but do not want to place it for several moments, the current
round also ends immediately.) Now you proceed to Scoring.
Example: According to the customers‘ orders, each Pizza
and Hotdog in the kitchen of the players are worth 2 points,
each Kebab is worth 1 point. Sushi, Fries and Hamburgers have not been ordered and are not worth any
points. Therefore, player A scores 2+0+2+2+0=6 points
and player B scores 1+2+2+0+2=7 points. Player B wins
the round and receives 1 Toque card.
Now take the Snack and „Hurry up!“ cards and shuffle them
back together into the shared draw pile, for the next round
to begin.
End of Game
The first player who manages to have 5 Toque cards after
the Scoring took place, wins the game and is the proud owner of the first snack bar to reach a 5-toque rating ...
Special Case: If both of you would receive their 5th Toque
card after the Scoring took place, then nobody receives a
Toque card and another round is played to determine the
winner. (Play continues until only 1 player would receive his
5th Toque card.)
The Expansion Modules
Speed Snacks contains 4 modules with which you can mix up your gameplay to your heart’s content. Each module can
be integrated into the basic game on its own, or, should you wish to do so, you can play with any or all Modules together.
We do recommend, however, that you explore the Modules bite-sized one by one and in ascending order from Module 1 to
Module 4, as they grow in complexity.
Module 1: “Public Health Office“
Scoring: Before Scoring takes place, you have to do the
following step first: Name 1 of the opponent’s kitchen
piles, take it, turn it around and look at the cards. (Make
sure to not rearrange the cards in the pile and place it back
where it came from, after you have looked at the cards!)
For each Cockroach card you spot in the pile, your opponent will receive 1 Minus point. When tallying up the Score,
Setup: Shuffle the 10 Cockroach cards into
the shared draw pile.
Flow of Play: Whenever you draw a Cockroach
card, you have to place it as a face-down
card onto a kitchen pile of yours – either as the
first card of a pile, or on top of an existing pile.
3
Module 4 „Menu“
each player has to subtract all received Minus points, before arriving at the final Score for the round. If you have
turned over a Cockroach during Scoring, but this pile was
not the one examined, then nothing happens. (You receive
no plus points nor minus points for it).
Setup: Shuffle the 15 cards “Menu“ and deal
7 cards to each player. Place these 7 cards as a
hidden, face-down draw pile next to your kitchen.
The 15th card will not be required this game, put it
back in the box.
Before the start of the first round, draw 2 cards from
your „Menu“ draw pile. Before subsequent rounds,
you will refill your hand of “Menu“ cards to 2, if necessary. (Put the cards in the hand you are not playing with.
You can also place the cards face-down in front of you,
but unlike the other cards that are face-down, you may
look at your “Menu“ cards in “hand” at any time.)
Flow of Play: There are no changes.
Scoring: Before you score your kitchen cards according to
the customers‘ orders, but after the “Public Health Office”
checked you for Cockroaches (if you also play with Module 1) and after you have revealed the top-most card of each
of your kitchen piles, you check if you have fulfilled any of
your “Menu“ cards in your hand. To fulfill 1 “Menu“ card
both Snacks, that are depicted on the “Menu“ have to be
a revealed card in your kitchen. To fulfill both your cards
simultaneously you have to have 1 of the depicted Snacks
for each of your Menus (so 4 cards are necessary). So if
your 2 “Menu“ cards depict a sum of 2 Hamburgers, then
you will need 2 different revealed Snack cards showing
Hamburgers on top of your kitchen piles. Place each fulfilled “Menu“ card open and visible next to your kitchen.
Then score the customers‘ orders as usual.
After you have scored the customers‘ orders completely
but before a Toque card is awarded, you may use your
fulfilled “Menu“ cards to gain advantages. Whoever is
currently in the lead with the points (and would be the
one awarded with the Toque card) has to decide first if
he will spend up to 3 of his fulfilled “Menu“ cards for the
advantage, then his opponent follows (in case of a tie, the
player who was not the start player this round must decide first). Only after this step, will the real winner of the
round be decided and the Toque card will be awarded.
What advantages do fulfilled „Menu“ cards yield?
For 1, 2 or 3 fulfilled “Menu“ cards you can gain the following advantages (to gain the advantage discard the
“Menu“ cards back into the game box):
•If you discard 1 “Menu“ card: Gain 1 additional scoring
point.
•If you discard 2 “Menu“ cards: Change the type of Snack
of 1 of your revealed Snack cards into a Snack of your
choice. Then recalculate your score.
•If you discard 3 “Menu” cards: Gain 1 Toque card immediately. (Should this be your 5th Toque card, then still
continue through the whole Scoring process. If there is
then the case of a tie, play an additional round to determine the winner, as usual.)
For each round you may only choose exactly 1 of these 3
advantages and gain its effect. (You cannot discard 4
“Menu“ cards to change the Snack type of two different
Snack cards, for example.) You may hoard as many fulfilled
“Menu“ cards as you wish and spend them as you see fit.
Module 2 „Dish-of-the-Day“
Setup: Lay out all 6 cards “Dish-of-the-Day“ into the play
area before beginning each round.
Flow of Play: During the course of a round,
each player can, only once, take 1 of these cards
and place it next to his kitchen piles.
Scoring: For your card “Dish-of-the-Day“, you
will score as many additional points, as the depicted Snack has been revealed in your kitchen.
So, if your “Dish-of-the-Day“ is the Kebab and there are 3
Kebab Snack cards revealed on top of your kitchen piles,
then your card “Dish-of-the-Day“will score you an additional 3 points. The customers‘ orders in the middle of the
table are of no consequence for the points scored by the
“Dish-of-the-Day“.
Module 3 „XXL“
Setup: Shuffle and place the 6 cards “XXL“ as an additional draw pile next to the shared draw pile into the
middle of the table.
Flow of Play: During the course of a round you may
also draw from the “XXL” draw pile. If you do, look at the
card, and place it, face-down, next to your
kitchen piles. You may draw and place as
many of these “XXL” cards as you want.
(But be careful: As with all face-down and
hidden cards in your kitchen, you may not
look at the cards again until Scoring. These
cards “XXL” do not count as one of your
kitchen piles, though.) Your goal will be to
fulfill these “XXL” orders, before the current round concludes. To do that, you have to place exactly 3 of the required Snack cards face-down on the matching “XXL“
order (instead of a kitchen pile).
Scoring: If the “XXL” order has been fulfilled by the
3 required and matching Snacks, you will score an
additional 3 points for this round. But should
there be less or more then 3 cards on the
“XXL” order, or one of those
cards does not match the
“XXL” order you will
receive 3 Minus points
for this “XXL” order
instead.
