Die Pressekonferenzen finden im 4. Obergeschoss des Baden-Württemberg Centers statt.
Pressekonferenz am Freitag:
Freitag findet um 14:00 Uhr eine Vorab-Pressekonferenz mit Nico Müller (Audi), Marco Wittmann (BMW)
und Pascal Wehrlein (Mercedes Benz) im Media Center statt.
Pressekonferenz nach dem Zeittraining:
Samstag im Anschluss an das Zeittraining. Teilnehmer: die drei erstplatzierten Fahrer und der beste Fahrer
jener Marke, die nicht auf dem Podium vertreten ist, sowie die drei DTM-Verantwortlichen der Hersteller. Di
Pressekonferenz nach dem Rennen:
Sonntag im Anschluss an die Siegerehrung, Teilnehmer wie bei PK Samstag.
Beide Pressekonferenzen werden live im internationalen TV übertragen und daher auf Englisch
abgehalten.

1. Press conferences in the media centre
Press conference on Friday:
On Friday at 14.00 hrs, there will be a press conference with Nico Müller (Audi), Marco Wittmann (BMW)
and Pascal Wehrlein (Mercedes-Benz) in the media centre.
Post-qualifying press conference:
Saturday after qualifying. Participating: the first three drivers and the best-placed driver of the manufacturer
that is not being represented in the top three, as well as the the manufacturers’ persons in charge for the
DTM involvement.
Post-race press conference:
Sunday after the prize-giving ceremony, participants identical as on Saturday.
As both press conferences are broadcast live on international TV they will be held in German and English.

Zahlen und Fakten
DTM Hockenheim – Interessant zu wissen, dass…
... Hockenheim seit 1988 fast immer Schauplatz des DTM-Saisonfinales war. Einzige Ausnahme in der
‚neuen’ DTM war die Saison 2010, in der nach dem Rennen in Hockenheim noch zwei weitere Läufe
stattfanden. Auch 1991 fanden nach dem Hockenheim-Rennen noch zwei weitere Rennen statt, die
allerdings nur zum ITR-Gold-Cup zählten. Im ITC-Jahr 1996 gab es ebenfalls nach dem Rennen in
Hockenheim noch zwei Veranstaltungen.
.… seit dem Saisonfinale 2003 in Hockenheim fast immer auf der aktuellen, 4,574 km langen
Streckenvariante gefahren wird. Vor dem Umbau der Strecke wurde beim DTM- Saisonauftakt immer die
sogenannte „Kurzanbindung“ von 2,638 km gefahren, während das Saisonfinale auf dem 6,823 km langen
alten Grand-Prix-Kurs über die Bühne ging. Beim Herbstrennen 2010 kam eine auf 3,736 km reduzierte
Streckenvariante zum Einsatz, seit 2011 wird wieder auf der 4,574 km langen Strecke gefahren.
... der aktuelle DTM-Rundenrekord in Hockenheim seit dem Saisonauftakt von Martin Tomczyk gehalten
wird: Im BMW M4 DTM umrundete er den Kurs in 1:32.523 Minuten und stellte damit den Rekord von Paul
Di Resta vom Saisonfinale 2008 ein.
... Bernd Schneider, der beim Saisonfinale 2008 in Hockenheim sein letztes DTM-Rennen fuhr, nach wie
vor der erfolgreichste Fahrer in Hockenheim ist. Schneider holte dort 13 seiner insgesamt 43 Rennsiege in
DTM und ITC, fuhr vier Mal die Bestzeit im Zeittraining und 13 Mal die schnellste Rennrunde.

Facts and figures
DTM Hockenheim – Interesting to know that…
... since 1988, Hockenheim has almost always been the venue for the DTM season finale. The only
exception in the era of the ‘new’ DTM was the 2010 season, in which there were two more rounds after the
Hockenheim event. In 1991, there were also two more races after Hockenheim, but these only counted
towards the ‘ITR Gold Cup’. In the ITC season 1996, there were also two more races after Hockenheim.
… since the 2003 season finale, the current, 4.574 kilometres long track lay-out at Hockenheim has been
used for almost every race. Prior to the reconstruction of the track, the season opener always took place at
the so-called ‘short track’ of 2.638 km, while the finale was held at the 6.283 km long old Grand Prix circuit.
The 2010 autumn race was held at a lay-out with a reduced length of 3.736 km, but in 2011, the current
track was used again.
… during this year’s season opener, Martin Tomczyk established a new DTM lap record at Hockenheim:
with his BMW M4 DTM, he completed his fastest race lap in 1:32.523 minutes, beating the previous record
set by Paul Di Resta in the 2008 season finale.
... Bernd Schneider, who drove his final DTM race in the 2008 season finale, is still the most successful
DTM driver at Hockenheim. At the venue, Schneider scored 13 of his 43 DTM and ITC race wins, claimed
four pole positions and set 13 fastest race lap times.

Mitglieder eines TV-Teams, das auf Basis einer vertraglichen Vereinbarung mit der _wige in der Hotlane
Bewegtbildaufnahmen drehen darf, müssen dort einen feuerfesten Rennoverall sowie feuerfeste Unterwäsche tragen.
Ausschließlich Passinhaber eines vertraglich vereinbarten Hotlane-Zusatztickets (inklusive gültiger Media-Akkreditierung
und gültigem Fotoleibchen) sind zum Aufenthalt in der Hotlane berechtigt. Zuwiderhandlungen führen zum sofortigen
Verweis aus der Boxengasse für das gesamte Rennwochenende.

Pitwall-Zusatzticket erforderlich; die Hotlane darf nur einmal zügig überquert werden. Für Fotografen mit gültiger MediaAkkreditierung und Pitwall-Zusatzticket sowie einem gültigen Fotoleibchen oder gültiger Fotoweste besteht bei ihrem
Aufenthalt auf der Pitwall keine Notwendigkeit, einen feuerfesten Rennanzug zu tragen. Der Aufenthalt in der Working Lane
und/oder in der Hotlane ist mit einem Pitwall-Ticket nicht gestattet.
Pitwall-Tickets gibt es aus Sicherheitsgründen nur in streng limitierter Anzahl für jede einzelne DTMSession. Die Tickets werden leihweise zur Verfügung gestellt und sind auf Anfrage gegen Unterschrift im
Büro der ITR-Presse erhältlich.

photo tabard is a precondition to get access to the hot lane and is part of the TV contract. Infringement leads to exclusion for
the whole race weekend.

An additional pit wall pass is required, the hot lane may only be crossed quickly once. There is no need to wear a fireproof
overall for photographers with valid accreditation and pit wall pass as well as valid photo tabard or vest as they are only
allowed to stay at the pit wall. Pit wall tickets do not give access to the working lane and/or hot lane.
For safety reasons, the number of pit wall tickets is strictly limited for each individual DTM session. The
tickets are issued on loan and may be signed out at the ITR press office.

Die wichtigsten Eckpunkte des Reglements 2014
Options-Reifen
Der Einsatz der Options-Reifen von Exklusivpartner Hankook, die wie bisher ausschließlich im Rennen zum
Einsatz kommen und dort mindestens einmal verwendet werden müssen, wird auf maximal 50 Prozent der
Renndistanz limitiert. Nach einer Safety-Car-Phase haben die Fahrer, die zu Beginn dieser Phase auf
Options-Reifen unterwegs waren, noch sechs Runden Zeit, um ihre Reifen zu wechseln, auch wenn sie
dadurch mehr als 50 Prozent der Renndistanz auf Options-Reifen fahren würden.
Pflichtboxenstopp
Ab sofort gibt es im Rennen nur noch einen Pflichtboxenstopp (statt zuvor zwei), der im zweiten Renndrittel
absolviert werden muss. Innerhalb einer Safety-Car-Phase sind keine Pflichtboxenstopps erlaubt; nach
Ende dieser Phase haben die Fahrer noch sechs Runden Zeit, ihren Stopp zu absolvieren, auch wenn sie
dadurch aus dem vorgesehenen Fenster herausfallen würden.
Qualifying
Das Qualifying besteht in dieser Saison nur noch aus drei Abschnitten. Das bisherige Einzelzeitfahren der
besten vier Piloten (Q4) entfällt. Der neue Ablauf:

Q1 dauert 13 Minuten, 23 Fahrer nehmen teil, die 5 langsamsten scheiden aus, 7 Minuten Pause
•
Q2 dauert 11 Minuten, 18 Fahrer nehmen teil, die 10 langsamsten scheiden aus, 8 Minuten Pause
•
Q3 dauert 11 Minuten, die besten 8 Fahrer kämpfen um die Pole-Position
Roll-out
Das Roll-out findet freitags in zwei Durchgängen von jeweils 15 Minuten statt. Die Fahrzeuge werden nach
geraden und ungeraden Startnummern aufgeteilt. Dadurch ist pro Team in jeder Gruppe nur ein Fahrzeug
im Einsatz, die Teams können sich bei Boxenstoppübungen so auf ein Auto konzentrieren.
DRS
Das Drag Reduction System (DRS) darf ab sofort bis zum Ende des Rennens verwendet werden.

Performance-Gewichte
In der Saison 2014 kommen so genannte Performance-Gewichte zum Einsatz. Das Fahrzeuggewicht
wurde daher von 1.110 kg um 10 kg auf 1.120 kg angehoben. Abhängig von den erzielten Resultaten muss
eine Marke maximal 10 kg (pro Rennen maximal 5 kg) zuladen oder darf maximal 10 kg (pro Rennen
maximal 5 kg) ausladen. Aufgeteilt sind die Gewichte in einheitliche Ballast-Blöcke aus Wolfram von jeweils
2,5 kg, die in einer Stufe im Unterboden etwa auf Höhe der Fahrerfüße montiert werden. Es dürfen immer
nur so viele der einheitlichen Ballast-Blöcke verwendet werden, wie vom Reglement für das aktuelle
Rennen vorgeschrieben. Die Verteilung der Performance-Gewichte wird wie folgt geregelt:
•
Der Sieger eines Rennens und all seine Markenkollegen, die in den Top-10 ins Ziel kommen,
müssen beim nächsten Rennen 5 kg mehr, also zwei zusätzliche Ballast-Blöcke, montieren. Die
Markenkollegen des Siegers, die nicht unter der Top-10 ins Ziel gekommen sind, müssen beim
nächsten Rennen zusätzlich 2,5 kg, also einen Ballast-Block mehr, montieren.
•
Für die Fahrzeuge der zweitbesten Marke eines Rennens bleibt das Gewicht unverändert.
•
Die Fahrzeuge der drittbesten Marke eines Rennens, die in den Top-10 ins Ziel gekommen sind,
müssen beim nächsten Rennen 2,5 kg, also einen Ballast-Block weniger, montieren. Die
Markenkollegen, die nicht in den Top-10 waren, müssen beim nächsten Rennen 5 kg weniger, also
zwei Ballast-Blöcke weniger, montieren.
•
Sollten bei einem Rennen auf den Plätzen eins bis drei Fahrer jeder Marke vertreten sein, bleiben
die Gewichte für das nächste Rennen unverändert.
Ersatzmotoren
2014 sind nur noch zwei Ersatzmotoren pro Hersteller erlaubt, statt bislang einem Ersatzmotor pro Team.
Jeder der zehn bzw. bei Mercedes-Benz neun Motoren muss bei mindestens vier Veranstaltungen
eingesetzt werden. Ein Fahrer darf während der Saison maximal drei verschiedene Motoren verwenden.

Regulation changes for the 2014 DTM season
Option tyres
The use of the option tyres provided by DTM’s exclusive tyre partner Hankook – that again may solely be
used in the races and for a minimum of one stint – has been limited to 50 percent of the race distance.
Following a safety-car period, the drivers who were racing on these tyres when the safety-car was sent out
have got six laps time to pit for fresh tyres, even if they would cover more than 50 percent of the race
distance, in this case.
Obligatory pit stop
With immediate effect, the number of obligatory pit stops is reduced to one (previously two) that has to be
executed in the second third of the race. Making the obligatory pit stop during a safety-car period is
prohibited. Following the safety-car period, the drivers have got six laps time for coming in for their
obligatory pit stop, even if this should mean that the stop is made after the time window for the obligatory pit
stop has closed.
Qualifying
The qualifying session comprises only three phases, this year. The individual time trial that had to be
contested by the fastest four drivers (Q4) in the previous years has been nixed. The new schedule:
•
Q1, 13 minutes, contested by 23 drivers, with the five slowest being eliminated; seven-minute break
•
Q2, 11 minutes, contested by 18 drivers, with the 10 slowest being eliminated; eight-minute break
•
Q3, 11 minutes, the eight fastest drivers battle it out for the pole
Roll-out
The roll-out is held on Friday in two 15-minute sessions. The cars are divided up into those with even and
those with uneven numbers. This means that only one car per team is in action, allowing the teams to focus
on one car when it comes to the pit-stop practice.
DRS
With immediate effect, the Drag Reduction System (DRS) may be used up to the end of the race.

Performance weights
In the 2014 season, so-called performance weights will be used. Therefore, the minimum weight will be
increased from 1,110 kilos by 10 to 1,120 kilos, for the season opener at the Hockenheimring BadenWürttemberg. Depending on the results achieved, a brand has to add up to 10 kilos (a maximum of 5 kilos
per race) or may get rid of up to 10 kilos (a maximum of 5 kilos per race). The weights are divided up into
2.5-kilo control ballast blocks made of wolframite that will be mounted on a step in the underfloor located
approximately in the area of the drivers’ feet. The use of the control ballast blocks per car is limited to the
number stipulated by the regulations for the respective race. The performance-weight distribution is
executed as follows:
•
The winner of a race and all the drivers of the same manufacturers’ camp who secured a top-10
result have to contest the next race with an additional performance weight of five kilos and two
ballast blocks respectively mounted on their cars. The drivers racing for the same brand as the
winner who haven’t made it to the top 10 will have to mount 2.5 kilos and one ballast block
respectively, for the following race.
•
For the cars of the second-best brand in a race, the weights remain unchanged.
•
The cars of the third-best brand in a race that made it to the top 10 may get rid of 2.5 kilos and one
ballast block respectively, for the next race. While those drivers of the brand that didn’t make it to
the top 10 may get rid of five kilos and two ballast blocks respectively, for the following race.
•
Should drivers of all the three brands have secured one of the top-three positions, the weights for
the coming race will remain the same.
Replacement engines
In 2014, just two replacement engines per manufacturer are allowed instead of one replacement engine per
team. Each of the ten engines – and nine engines respectively in the case of Mercedes-Benz – must be
used in a minimum of four events. The maximum of engines a driver may use over the course of the
season is limited to three.
Vehicle homologation
Following the third race, the vehicles will be homologated an additional time and at this point in time, more

components will be defined than in the general homologation on 01 April, 2014.

Hockenheim kennt jeder...
Der Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg ist traditionell Austragungsort für das große Finale der
DTM. Neun Rennen liegen hinter den DTM-Piloten von Audi, BMW und Mercedes-Benz. Bei der
Pressekonferenz zum Auftakt des Rennwochenendes waren sich Mike Rockenfeller, Pascal
Wehrlein und Marco Wittmann zumindest in einem Punkt einig, denn auch wenn der Champion
bereits feststeht: Die Fans dürfen sich auf ein packendes Finalrennen freuen, denn die
Entscheidung in der Hersteller-Wertung ist noch offen.
Wehmütig blickt der neue DTM-Champion Marco Wittmann auf diese, für ihn ganz besondere, Saison
zurück. „Hinter mir liegt eine unglaubliche Saison und es ist schade, dass das Jahr schon vorbei ist. Ich
freue mich riesig auf das letzte DTM-Rennen der Saison. Der Hockenheimring hat eine ganz spezielle
Atmosphäre, vor allem wenn du durch das Motodrom fährst. Das ist großartig. Fast jeder von uns kennt
den Hockenheimring aus seiner Zeit als Nachwuchsrennfahrer. Das macht es nicht einfacher zu
gewinnen...“ Nach dem Fahrer- und dem Team-Titel haben Wittmann und BMW aber noch eine andere
Wertung im Visier, denn die Markenwertung ist noch offen. Vor dem letzten Rennen liegt BMW mit 361
Punkten auf Platz eins vor Audi mit 341 Punkten – die Entscheidung fällt also am Sonntag.
Einen anderen Blick auf die DTM-Jubiläumssaison hat Mike Rockenfeller. Der DTM-Champion von 2013 ist
„froh, dass das Jahr endlich vorbei ist“, kann der Saison aber dennoch positive Seiten abgewinnen: „Wir
waren immer vorne mit dabei – allerdings immer mit verschiedenen Fahrern. Marco hat dieses Jahr den
besten Job gemacht. Bei der enormen Leistungsdichte in der DTM können zwei Zehntelsekunden über
Sieg und Niederlage entscheiden. Aber das ist das schöne am Sport: Mal gewinnt man, mal verliert man.
Nach dem Winter beginnen alle wieder bei null und die Jagd um geht von vorne los. Jetzt konzentrieren wir
uns auf das Finale. Zum Abschluss geben wir bei Audi alles um die Markenwertung zu unseren Gunsten zu
entscheiden.“

Nach Startschwierigkeiten zu Saisonbeginn sind Pascal Wehrlein und Mercedes-Benz immer besser in
Fahrt gekommen. „Man konnte sehen, wie wir unser Auto stetig verbessert und verstanden haben. Es
macht Spaß vorne mitzufahren und das ist unser Anspruch. Für mich persönlich war es ein gutes und
wichtiges Jahr und auch meine Berufung zum dritten Fahrer in der Formel 1 ist natürlich toll. Aber ich will
Einsatz- und nicht Ersatzfahrer sein. Auf das Rennen in Hockenheim freut sich jeder Fahrer. Wir wollen uns
mit einem guten Ergebnis in die Winterpause verabschieden.“

Everybody knows Hockenheim...
Traditionally, the Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg serves as the venue for the grand finale of
the DTM. The DTM drivers of Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz have completed nine races. During the
press conference to start the race weekend, Mike Rockenfeller, Pascal Wehrlein and Marco
Wittmann agreed at least on one aspect: even though the champion is already known, the fans can
still look forward to a thrilling finale, because the decision in the battle for the manufacturers’ title is
still open.
The newly-crowned DTM champion Marco Wittmann is a little bit sad when looking back upon this season
that was very special for him. “I have an incredible season behind me and it is sad that the year is almost
over already. I am really looking forward to the final DTM round of the season. The Hockenheimring has a
very special atmosphere, especially when you are driving through the Motodrom. That is great. Almost
everyone of us knows the Hockenheimring from our days in junior categories. That doesn’t make winning
particularly easier…” After the drivers’ and teams’ titles, Wittmann and BMW now have their eyes also set
on another title, because the manufacturers’ championship is still open. Prior to the final race, BMW is in
the lead with 361 points from Audi with 341 points, so Sunday will bring the decision.

Mike Rockenfeller has another opinion of the DTM’s 30 anniversary year. The 2013 DTM champion is
“glad that the season is finally over”, but still finds positive elements: “We were always among the front
runners, but always with different drivers. Marco has done the best job this year. Given the incredibly close
competition in the DTM, two tenths of a second can decide about victory or defeat. But that is the nice thing
about the sport: sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. After the winter, we are all starting from scratch
and the battle begins again. Now, we are concentrating on the finale. In the last race, we at Audi will do our
utmost to decide the battle for the manufacturers’ title in our favour.”

After initial difficulties at the start of the season, Pascal Wehrlein and Mercedes-Benz were doing better and
better. “One could see how we continuously improved our car and got a better understanding of it. Being
among the front-runners is fun and that is our ambition. For me personally, it has been a good and
important year and my appointment as the third driver in Formula 1 is great, too. However, I want to be a
race driver and not a reserve driver. Every driver is looking forward to the Hockenheim round. We want to
bow out of the season with a good result.”

Hockenheim. Hockenheim. Audi dominated proceedings in the final qualifying of the DTM season at the
Hockenheimring. With a time of 1:33.316 minutes, Miguel Molina claimed pole position from Mattias
Ekström and Edoardo Mortara. Behind the trio from the Ingolstadt-based brand, Augusto Farfus was
classified fourth with his BMW M4 DTM. Pascal Wehrlein drove the fastest DTM Mercedes AMG C-Coupé

Full attack mode: an Audi trio up front in qualifying
Hockenheim. BMW or Audi – the battle for the DTM manufacturers title goes into the final and decisive
round. In qualifying for the season finale, Miguel Molina (Audi RS 5 DTM) secured pole position. Mattias
Ekström and Edoardo Mortara underlined the strong performance by the brand from Ingolstadt by qualiying
in second and third place respectively. Thus, Audi has good chances to topple BMW from the lead in the
manufacturers’ standings. “I am overjoyed. The entire team worked so hard in the past months. I hope that
everything fits together during the race. After a difficult season, I finally want to score my maiden race win in
the DTM,” a buoyant pole sitter Molina said. Prior to the final round at the Hockenheimring BadenWürttemberg, BMW is leading Audi by 362 to 341 points.
Behind the trio of Audi drivers, BMW’s Augusto Farfus ended up fourth in qualifying. The Brazilian was the
only driver of a BMW M4 DTM to make it into the third and final qualifying heat. “Fourth place is making me
feel well,” the 31-year-old commented. “The season hasn’t been always easy for me. Even in practice,
things didn’t go really well here, but then we made some changes on the car. As a result, I am now quite far
up the ranks. It would be great if I can end the season with a good result.”
Pascal Wehrlein was the spearhead for Mercedes-Benz in qualifying. With a lap time of 1:33.483 minutes,
the German was classified sixth in his DTM Mercedes AMG C-Coupé. “This is a good position for me to
start from. It is not quite where we want to be yet, but as we all know, anything can happen during the
race,” the youngster said. His fellow Mercedes-Benz driver Christian Vietoris had a major setback. The
German, third in the drivers’ standings, only ended up 22
nd
and thus only has theoretical chances of
claiming runner-up spot in the championship.
The tenth and final round of the season will start on Sunday at 14.00hrs. First German TV channel ARD will
be broadcasting live from the season finale of the most popular international touring car series. An overview
of the tyre choice by the DTM drivers for the start of the race will be published at the official website
www.dtm.com on Saturday evening.

Hockenheim. Mattias Ekström scored his second victory in a row in the DTM season finale at the
Hockenheimring. In bright sunshine, the Audi works driver came to the fore against his fellow Audi drivers
Mike Rockenfeller and Jamie Green in a thrilling dash towards the chequered flag. With Paul Di Resta and
Marco Wittmann, the best-placed Mercedes-Benz and BMW driver followed in fourth and fifth place

Start
Mortara has a bad start. Ekström takes the lead from Molina and Green. Molina runs wide
after missing his braking point for the second corner.

Molina has dropped back to fifth. Green takes the lead coming out of the hairpin, Ekström is
second from Wehrlein, Farfus, Molina, Scheider and Rockenfeller.

Tambay gets a drive-through for a jump start. Wehrlein overtakes Ekström for second,

Dreifacherfolg für Audi beim DTM-Finale
Hockenheim. Mit einem überragenden Triumph von Audi endete die DTM-Saison 2014. Die Ingolstädter
belegten beim Saisonfinale in Hockenheim die ersten drei Plätze und sicherten sich den Herstellertitel in
der populärsten internationalen Tourenwagenserie. Rennsieger war Mattias Ekström, der die Saison als
Vize-Champion beendet. „Das ist großartig, vor so einer tollen Kulisse zu siegen. Nach so einer
ereignisreichen Saison tut es gut, sich mit einem Erfolg in den Winter zu verabschieden. Wir hatten über
das Jahr hinweg viele Höhen und Tiefen. Auch heute ging es wieder hart aber fair zu, das gehört einfach
zur DTM dazu“, freute sich der Schwede über seinen zweiten Sieg in Folge. Mike Rockenfeller und Jamie
Green komplettierten das Podest auf den Plätzen zwei und drei. Insgesamt 155.000 Zuschauer besuchten
das zehnte Rennwochenende des Jahres.
Ein packendes Duell um die vierte Position lieferten sich Paul Di Resta (Mercedes-Benz) und Marco
Wittmann (BMW) in der Schlussphase. Am Ende setzte sich Di Resta in seinem DTM Mercedes AMG CCoupé gegen den Fürther durch. „Ich hatte zunächst einen schwierigen Start und dadurch einige Plätze
verloren. Gerne hätte ich noch Jamie Green kassiert, um einen Podestplatz zu erobern. Doch auch Platz
vier ist gut. Danke an meine Mannschaft, die wirklich einen unglaublichen Job geleistet haben“, so Di Resta
zufrieden.
Marco Wittmann steht bereits seit dem Rennen auf dem Lausitzring als Champion fest. Nach einer
erfolgreichen Saison verlief das letzte Wochenende der Saison eher durchwachsen für den Franken. Der
fünfte Platz des BMW-Piloten beim Finale in Hockenheim war das Endergebnis einer starken Aufholjagd.
Nach einem enttäuschenden Qualifying musste der Fürther das Rennen nur von der 13. Position in Angriff
nehmen. „Ich denke, ich habe das Maximum herausgeholt. Ich hatte nicht die beste Ausgangslage für
dieses Rennen. In der DTM geht es so eng zu, da ist es schwierig, nach vorn zu kommen. Umso
zufriedener kann ich mit dem fünften Platz sein“, blickte der vierfache Saisonsieger zurück.
Timo Scheider (Audi RS 5 DTM), Martin Tomczyk (BMW M4 DTM) und Robert Wickens (DTM Mercedes
AMG C-Coupé) landeten auf den Plätzen sechs, sieben und acht. Als Neunter kam Pole-Setter Miguel

Molina ins Ziel. Der Spanier verlor unmittelbar nach dem Start die Führung an Mattias Ekström. Beim
Versuch, die Spitzenposition zurückzuerobern, verbremste sich Molina und fiel dadurch weit zurück. Noch
mehr Pech hatte Pascal Wehrlein: Der Mercedes-Benz-Pilot lag bis zu seinem Reifenwechsel auf
Podestkurs. Da er nach Meinung der Rennleitung beim Anfahren nach dem Boxenstopp einen Fahrer
behinderte, wurde gegen den Youngster eine Durchfahrtsstrafe ausgesprochen – alle Hoffnungen auf ein
Top-Ergebnis waren damit geplatzt.
Audi Leiter DTM Dieter Gass: „Ich freue mich nicht nur über den Dreifacherfolg, sondern vor allem über
den Sieg von Mattias Ekström. Wie viel wurde in diesem Jahr über die jungen Wilden gesprochen – und
dann kommt der alte Hase und holt zwei Siege hintereinander. Wir sind sehr glücklich über den
Herstellertitel. Da wir aber natürlich wissen, dass der Fahrertitel noch ein bisschen mehr im Fokus der
Öffentlichkeit steht, wollen wir den im kommenden Jahr auf jeden Fall auch wieder."
Mercedes-Benz Motorsportchef Toto Wolff: „Audi zeigte heute eine Top-Mannschaftsleistung – dagegen
hatten wir keine Chance. Die Strafe für Pascal Wehrlein hätten wir vermeiden können. Dieser Fehler ist uns
in der Hitze des Gefechts passiert. Auch wenn wir keinen Titel holen konnten, haben wir 2014 unser
Potenzial andeuten können. Mit unseren drei Siegen müssen wir uns nicht verstecken.“
BMW Motorsport Direktor Jens Marquardt: „Im Qualifying gestern lief nicht alles perfekt. Wenn man
dann aus dem Mittelfeld startet, kann man nicht erwarten, dass man ganz vorne landet – trotz toller
Leistungen unserer gesamten Mannschaft im Rennen. Mit dem Ausgang der Saison bin ich natürlich hoch
zufrieden. Wir sind Fahrer- und Teamchampion. In den vergangenen drei Jahren haben wir insgesamt
sechs von neun Titeln geholt. Das ist doch für DTM-Neulinge – und so bezeichne ich uns immer noch – gar
nicht so schlecht.”

A clean sweep of the podium for Audi in the DTM finale
Hockenheim. With an overwhelming victory for Audi, the 2014 DTM season came to an end. The brand
from Ingolstadt had a clean sweep of the first three places in the season finale at Hockenheim and secured
the manufacturers’ title in the most popular international touring car series. Victory in the race went to
Mattias Ekström, who concludes the season as the runner-up in the drivers’ standings. “Winning the race in
front of such a great crowd is fantastic. After such an eventful year, bowing out of the season with a
success is a good feeling. Over the year, we had many ups and downs. Today, once again, it was hard, but
fair. That is simply a part of the DTM,” the Swede said after his second consecutive victory. Mike
Rockenfeller and Jamie Green rounded out the podium after finishing second and third respectively. In
total, 155,000 spectators attended the tenth race weekend of the year.
In the closing stages of the race, Paul Di Resta (Mercedes-Benz) and Marco Wittmann had a thrilling duel
for fourth place. Eventually, Di Resta prevailed with his DTM Mercedes AMG C-Coupé and finished ahead
of the German. “Initially, I had a difficult start and lost some positions as a result. I would have loved to
catch Jamie Green for a podium finish as well, but fourth place is quite good, too. Thanks to my team
members, who really have done an incredible job,” a happy Di Resta said.
Marco Wittmann had already secured himself the championship title in the Lausitzring round. After a
successful season, the German had a rather patchy final race meeting. Fifth place for the BMW driver in the
season finale at Hockenheim was the result of a race with plenty of progress for the BMW driver. After a

disappointing qualifying, the German only started 13 into the race. “I reckon I got the maximum out of it.
My starting grid position for this race wasn’t the best. In the DTM, things are so close that it is difficult to
make progress. As a result, I can be all the more happy with my fifth place,” the four times’ race winner
looks back upon the season.

result. Pascal Wehrlein had even more bad luck: the Mercedes-Benz driver was on course for a podium
finish until his tyre change. As race control judged his release after the pit stop to be unsafe, the youngster
was given a drive-through penalty, after which all his hopes of scoring a top result were blown.
Dieter Gass, head of DTM, Audi: “I am not only happy with this 1-2-3, but especially with victory for
Mattias Ekström. There was so much talk about the young guns this year, and then this old hand comes up
and scores two wins in a row. We are very happy with the manufacturers’ title. However, as we are well
aware that the drivers’ title get some more public awareness, we definitely want that one back again next
year, too.”
Toto Wolff, head of Mercedes-Benz Motorsport: “Today, Audi has shown a top team result, we didn’t
have a chance against them. We could have avoided the penalty for Pascal Wehrlein. This mistake
happened to us in the heat of the moment. Even though we weren’t able to win a title this year, we still were
able to give a hint of our potential in 2014. With our three victories, we don’t have to be ashamed.”
Jens Marquardt, BMW Motorsport Director: “In qualifying yesterday, not everything went perfectly. When
starting from the midfield, you can’t expect to be all the way up front, in spite of good performances by our
entire team in the race. Of course, I am really happy with the outcome of the season. We have won the
drivers’ and teams’ titles. In the last three years, we have won six out of nine titles. That is not too bad for a
DTM novice, which I think we still are.”

Robert Wickens und Bruno Spengler nachträglich bestraft
Das Ergebnis des DTM-Rennens in Hockenheim wurde nachträglich geändert. Die Sportkommissare
haben gegen Robert Wickens eine 30-Sekunden-Ersatzstrafe (anstelle einer Drive-Through-Strafe)
verhängt. Der Mercedes-Benz-Pilot erhielt die Strafe wegen einer Kollision mit Augusto Farfus (BMW).
Wickens fällt damit von der achten auf die 17. Position zurück. Aufgrund dieser Entscheidung verliert der
Kanadier wichtige Punkte und fällt von der neunten auf den zwölften Tabellenplatz zurück.
Auch Bruno Spengler wurde nach dem Rennen von den Sportkommissaren bestraft. Der Kanadier hatte im
Anschluss an eine Kollision mit Daniel Juncadella absichtlich so stark gebremst, dass der Spanier eine
Kollision nicht mehr verhindern konnte. Für dieses unsportliche Verhalten wurde Spengler mit drei Stunden
gemeinnütziger Arbeit belegt, die in Absprache mit dem DMSB abzuleisten sind.

Post-race penalties for Robert Wickens and Bruno Spengler
The result of the DTM race at Hockenheim was amended after the race. The stewards of the meeting gave
Robert Wickens gave Robert Wickens a 30 seconds’ time penalty as a substitute for a drive-through
penalty. The Mercedes-Benz driver got the penalty for causing a collision with Augusto Farfus (BMW). As a

result, Wickens drops back from eighth to 17 place. Due to this decision, the Canadian loses valuable
points and drops back from ninth to twelfth place in the final drivers’ standings.
Bruno Spengler was also penalised by the stewards of the meeting after the race. After a collision with
Daniel Juncadella, the Canadian deliberately had braked so hard that the Spaniard couldn’t avoid a
collision. For this unsporting behaviour, Spengler has to do three hours of charitable work, to be carried out
in consultation with the DMSB.
