Housing in Vienna
STUDENT HALLS
The Academy has a limited number of places at student halls of the ÖAD
(Austrian Exchange Service): Deadline for application for the winter term
is 15 July; for the summer term is15 December; Reservation deposit
required. Please follow the guidelines at www.housing.oead.ac.at
The following student halls are available for Academy’s students:
Molkereistraße: single rooms in a shared flat
Tigergasse: single and double rooms in shared flats
Obermüllergasse: double rooms
Türkenstraße. Single rooms in shared flats
SHARED FLAT/APARTMENT
A room in a shared flat (private) will cost approx. 250-400Euro and the
price for an apartment will be around 350-500Euro (incl. utility costs and
pro-rata-share, perhaps internet.) When you rent an apartment by
yourself you will get an one years`s, three year`s or a five year`s contract
which is charged additionally. You won`t get a permanent contract as
there is a law in Austria that you are non-redeemable then. Generally the
rents are too high in Vienna. The tenants union can help.
HOW TO FIND A PLACE TO STAY

(Temporary) residence permit
After moving in an apartment in Vienna you have to register
yourself in your destrict (Bezirksamt). There you get the so called
„Meldezettel“, what you need e.g. for opening a bank account, conclusion of contracts an for registration in public libraries.
For foreigners: When you have your „Meldezettel“, you have to
register yourself within three months time with the respective
municipal authority (Magistrat 35). That costs you 55Euro (for EEAcitizen). http://www.wien.gv.at/english/administration/civilstatus/

How to move in and around Vienna
PUBLIC TRANSPORT
At the offices of the „Wiener Linien“ (public transport in Vienna) you
can get a student ticket (until 26) for the terms`s period (4 months
without holidays) which costs you 128Euro. There is a tariff reform
right now going on. In the wintersemester the semester ticket will

Vienna). www.wienerlinien.at
ÖSTERREICHISCHEN BUNDESBAHN (Austrian Railway)
With the so-called „Vorteilskarte“ (for <26 just 19,90€) you get a 50%
discount on every ticket used in Austria. If you would like to make
a trip to the outskirts of town or within Austria the „Einfach-Raus“Ticket (30€, 2-5 persons any age within Austria or the „EinfachRaus“-Fahrradticket (bike ticket), 35€ with the same conditions) is
recommendable. www.oebb.at

It is also nice to go by bike in Vienna. If you do not have your own
bike you can borrow one at the student union`s office (only for
exchange-students).

WUK or the bike kitchen.

http://fahrrad.wuk.at
Bike Kitchen
Thur: 4-8pm.
Every first Friday a month: 4-8pm for especially women and transgender

Besides that there`s another nice alternative. Through the whole
city you gonna find citybike stations. The first hour is free, the
second costs 1€. for the registration you just need a valid Maestro or
credt card.http://www.citybikewien.at/
DRIVING A CAR AND PARTICULARLY PARKING
