 Diagnostic procedures and treatment of patients with haemorrhagic diathesis and thrombotic
events or thrombophilia (Outpatient department and ward)
 Routine laboratory haemostaseologic and haematologic diagnostic procedures, including
validation of laboratory results, morphology of haematologic diseases and immunophenotyping
of haematopoetic cells.
 Set-up and supervision of scientific laboratory procedures- including functional and
immunologic methods.
Period abroad for scientific purposes
1982 and 1985 stay in the laboratory of Prof.Dr.R.M. Bertina in Leiden, the Netherlands, for
periods of several weeks.

bleeding disorders, diagnosis and treatment of patients with thromboembolic disorders), 14
years as director, ongoing.

 Director of the haematology ward (one year) and the general internal ward at the Medical Clinic
I (5 months)

 Outpatient department for patients with haematologic and haemato-oncologic diseases (6

Teaching activities
During my training in Internal Medicine and specialisation in Haematology and Oncology regular
lectures and training courses under supervision, since 1992 regular, autonomous education and
examination of students.
Mentoring of 8 doctoral theses; mentoring of 2 associate professors (Doz. Dr. Claudia Rintelen and
PD Dr. Cihan Ay) for the achievement of their professorial dissertations (2003, 2011); mentoring of
diploma students.
Regular teaching in the Curricula N201 and N202.
Scientific activity
Since I started my career at the Department of Internal Medicine I in 1982, I have continuously
been engaged in scientific working. Since 1990 I have been in charge of a scientific laboratory with
focus on thrombosis research and bleeding disorders.
Specific fields of interest have been:





Hereditary and acquired thrombosis risk factors: molecular and biochemical basis, aspects of
diagnosis, clinical features and therapy
Aspects of haemophilia treatment and acquired hemorrhagic diathesis
Fundamentals and clinical relevance of coagulation abnormalities in patients with oncologic
and haemato-oncologic diseases.
Clinical and immunologic characteristics of patients with immune-thrombocytopenia
Specific haemostaseologic problems in critically-ill patients

Experience in clinical studies
I have served as Principal Investigator in >50 clinical trials, as Coordinating Investigator in four
international studies.
Last GCP training on 27 May 2013, performed by S2 Schlösser & Schneider GmbH.

Publication of 318 papers in peer-reviewed journals, mainly in the fields of haemostaseology,
haematology and internal medicine.
