IDC projects Pocket PCs will deploy 2:1 over other PDAs in the
enterprise by 2004

sets the enterprise benchmark”
-

•
Includes survey results indicating Pocket PC enterprise support doubles in two years
Forrester Research estimates by 2003 93% corporates will support Pocket PC vs.
38% for Palm in the UK
Aberdeen Group predicts that Pocket PC will have 3 times the
penetration of Palm in enterprise
Context (UK-based market research firm) reports that Pocket PC
enterprise deployments in Europe have
doubled in the last year with 33% of PDA category. Another UK-based

Analyst Quotes
"In 2001, Palm OS will enjoy a comfortable lead with about 54% of worldwide PDA
shipments. However, Dataquest expects that Windows CE-based PDAs will take the
market lead from Palm by the end of 2003. Our forecast assumes rapid growth in the
enterprise PDA market that will heavily favor Windows CE devices and that Palm will
struggle in transitioning to a new ARM4-based processor and developing a new operating
system to accompany the new chip(s). In 2005, we expect Windows CE-based devices to
account for about 50% of all PDAs shipped worldwide, while the Palm OS share is
forecast at 30%."
(Todd Kort, Gartner/Dataquest report)
"Pocket PC will dominate the enterprise and win as much as three times the penetration
into the enterprise as Palm-based devices." (Aberdeen)
A recent survey of 1,100 corporate technology buyers and IT managers conducted by IDC
found that about 36% of responding companies, which will have at least 500 handhelds in
use, are "planning on" or "considering" the Pocket PC for standardization, while just
20.9% are planning to use Palm OS devices." (IDC)
