Berlin-Brandenburg is one of the world’s leading media regions, attracting international producers and major stars such as the
Wachowskis, Tom Tykwer, Claire Danes and Miranda Otto. With an annual budget of €30 m, MBB provides funding for films,
serial formats, media-related projects, games and the development of audiovisual web and mobile content. MBB also advises
filmmakers and showrunners on financing issues and supports the development of the film and audiovisual industry.

WHO CAN APPLY?
DEADLINES AND DECISIONS
→ German-based (co)producers.
→ Six application deadlines per year. Decisions are announced six weeks
after each deadline (for current deadlines please see our website).
WHAT CAN BE SUPPORTED?
→ Costs for development and production of national and international
serial drama and other factual and entertainment formats for linear and
non-linear distribution.
SOFT LOANS
→ Funding is provided as a soft loan and must be repaid if the series is
economically successful.
→ Medienboard funding can be combined with other types of national
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
or international support.
→ Applications must be submitted before shooting.
→ Projects must show exploitation potential.

COPRODUCTIONS AND INTERNATIONAL HIGH-END SERIES.
WHO CAN APPLY?
NON-REPAYABLE GRANT
→ German-based (co)producers.
→ Financial support is provided in the form of a non-repayable grant.
→ Funding amounts to 20% of the eligible German budget. Funding
IN A NUTSHELL
→ Minimum production costs €1.2 m. Minimum German participation
is 40% or €10 m.
amounts to €4 m if at least German share is €20 m and €1 m is spent on
digital filmmaking in Germany.
→ The grant is capped at €2.5 m per season.
→ 75% of financing must be in place.
→ Applications must be submitted before shooting.
→ The series must pass a “cultural test”.
