Helicopter wurde in Nynmi, westlich von Kiwirrkura, geboren und lernte schon sehr früh, wo Wasserquellen
zu finden sind und wie man Buschnahrung sucht. Als kleiner Junge wurde er sehr krank und man brachte ihn
mit einem Hubschrauber, der in der Gegend für Bergbauaufschließungsarbeiten im Einsatz war, in die alte
Balgo-Mission. Viele Menschen sahen zum allerersten Mal einen Hubschrauber und so kam dann der Junge
zu seinem Namen.
Helicopter arbeitete in der Mission in Balgo, bohrte nach Wasser, sägte Holz für Zäune, setzte die Windmühle instand und kam auf Reisen weit herum in jenen Tagen, als er Lieferungen von den Häfen der Kimberleys
abholte. In der Balgo-Mission lernte er auch seine spätere Ehefrau Lucy Yukenbarri kennen, die zwei Kinder
aus erster Ehe mitbrachte und noch sechs Kinder mit Helicopter bekam. Sie lebten zusammen bis Yukenbarri im Jahre 2003 verstarb.
In den frühen 90er Jahren malte Helicopter mit Yukenbarri, wobei er keine eigene künstlerische Anerkennung anstrebte. Seit 1994 malt er in seinem eigenen unverwechselbaren, linearen Stil und stets in Verbindung mit einem zentralen Sickergewässer. Er stellt das Land dar, wo er geboren wurde; das Land seines
Vaters und seiner Großmutter im Gebiet der Great Sandy Desert und der Gibson Desert.
Helicopter ist ein maparn (traditioneller Heiler) und ein aktiver Gesetzesmann.
Helicopter ist bekannt als einer der führenden Künstler von Warlayirti Artists und ein großartiger Botschafter
für das Kunstzentrum. Für Ausstellungen seiner Gemälde ist er viel in Australien und auch ins Ausland gereist. In den Jahren 1999 und 2003 hatte er zusammen mit Yukenbarri auch Einzelausstellungen.
