Retailo is the leading specialist in the distribution of gift cards in continental Europe. The company, with its head office in Cologne, Germany,
operates as a multi-channel provider of gift card solutions at numerous
sales points across Europe, about 37,000 in number, including top
brands such as Douglas, Amazon.de, IKEA, C&A, Saturn, Fleurop,
Zalando.
In addition to “offline” distribution at gas stations, lottery kiosks, supermarkets and banks, Retailo increasingly relies on distribution channels
in the online world:
Retailo sells gift cards at its online shop www.geschenkkartenwelt.de,
and also digital gift codes via email, sms or mms that can be purchased
at www.giftmobile.de, as well as smartphone and social media apps.
In addition to launching the first German gifts app on Facebook (such
as at www.facebook.com/retailo), Retailo offers companies and agencies platform-independent social gifting solutions (such as
www.GiftsToFriends.de).
A universal prepaid card, the JOKER Online ShoppingCard, enables

In autumn 2012 Retailo AG also launched a payment area of its own for
e-cash products:
With the KINO voucher that four of the five major cinema chains with
183 cinemas and over 1,200 screens across Germany accept for payment of tickets, snacks and beverages, the Cologne-based voucher
specialist offers an e-cash based subject-related voucher for the first
time.
The JOKER Mastercard prepaid credit card can be reloaded and enables users to pay at 32 million MasterCard acceptance points around
the world and on the Internet.
The two e-cash products extend the JOKER card family, which stands
for vouchers and prepaid cards that can be used especially flexibly.
They are bundled at www.jokerkartenwelt.de.

For 2011, the American market research company Towergroup estimated that the market volume for gift cards in the US would reach more
than US$100 billion for the first time. According to calculations by the
American Trade Association, US consumers spent nearly US$28 billion
on gift cards over Christmas alone. In the US, gift cards or vouchers
have been the most popular Christmas present for the past five years.
This trend is also apparent in Germany. In 2010, gift cards or vouchers
were on top of the wish list for Christmas. For 2015, PSE Consulting
forecasts a sales volume of EUR 132 billion for prepaid cards in
Europe, including EUR 30 billion for gift cards.
