If necessary, contact a doctor. ¶¶ Unscrew the cell plugs on standard batteries before charging. ¶¶ Switch the charger off before connecting and disconnecting the terminal clips. ¶¶ Never disconnect the terminal clips while a battery is being charged. ¶¶ Do not disconnect the battery from the vehicle electrical system while it is being charged. ¶¶ Never short circuit the terminal clips. 1 689 979 993 | 2009-05-07 iiThe battery does not need to be isolated from the vehicle electrical system while charging. !!To prevent excessive gas formation, you should ensu- re that the ambient temperature is higher than 15°C, and in the case of older batteries place the switch in the "Warm battery" position. If the switch on the charger is in the "Cold battery" position, charging must be terminated immediately the battery is fully charged. The voltage for the battery charger is supplied from the lighting mains. The device is set to 230 V, 50 Hz by the manufacturer. Follow these steps for charging the battery: 1. Switch off the battery charger (Fig. 1, Pos. 7). 2. Unscrew the cell plugs on standard batteries before charging. 3. Attach the terminal clips (Fig. 1, Pos. 9) to the battery, ensuring correct polarity. Attach the red clip to the positive terminal (+) and the black clip to the negative terminal (-). 4. Place the "cold and warm battery" switch in the correct position (Fig. 1, Pos. 6). Only the temperature of the battery is to be considered. 5. Turn the regulator for limiting the charge current (Fig. 1, Pos. 8) all the way to the left (minimum charge current). 6. Set the voltage selector switch (Fig. 1, Pos. 5) to the voltage specified for the battery that is being charged. 7. Switch on the battery charger. The red LED must then be lit and steady (Fig. 1, Pos. 2). 8. Set the regulator for limiting the charge current to the value specified by the battery manufacturer. !!The manufacturer‘s instructions must always be followed for setting the charge current. iiIn this mode, the charge current should not be more than 20% of the battery capacity (Ah). Example: For a 45 Ah battery in this mode, the maximum charge current is calculated as follows: 45 Ah * 0.2 = 9 A. Robert Bosch GmbH Operation | | 13 9. Monitor the charge current constantly on the display instrument (Fig. 1, Pos. 1). The yellow LED (Fig. 1, Pos. 4) will be lit during charging. iiWhen the green LED (Fig. 1, Pos. 3) lights up, a voltage of 2.3 V or 2.4 V (depending on the battery temperature set) has been reached in each cell. In a properly working battery, this means that the battery is about 60% charged and can be used. !!The battery must be tested before trickle char- ging. Only batteries in perfect working order may be charged further or trickle charged. To continue charging, to trickle charge or to run the battery in buffer mode, the battery temperature switch must be switched to "Warm battery". 10. When charging is complete, switch off the charger. 11. Remove the terminal clips from the battery. 4.3 Faults Charger does not respond after switching on and the red LED does not light: ¶¶ Check power supply. Red LED flashes when the terminal clips have been attached to the battery: ¶¶ Check polarity. The red clip must be attached to the positive terminal (+) and the black clip must be attached to the negative terminal (-). 5. 1, pos. 7). 2. 3. Ligar as garras (fig. 1, pos. 9) à bateria, assegurando a polaridade correta. A garra vermelha no pólo positivo (+) e a garra preta no pólo negativo (-). 4. 1, pos. 1) no instrumento indicador. Durante o carregamento, o LED amarelo pisca (fig. 1, pos. 4). iiQuando o LED verde (fig. 1, pos. 60 %, estando assim pronta a funcionar. 5.
