14 – 17 September 2011
The largest and most important event of Emergency
Medicine in Latin America
ABRAMEDE
Brazilian Association for Emergency Medicine
MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Welcome to the III Brazilian Conference on Emergency Medicine!
On behalf of all doctors, teachers, researchers and professionals working in emergency
departments in Brazil, I would like to welcome and officially announce that which will be
the largest event ever held in Emergency Medicine in our country!
All programming was prepared in detail and with great care. The most important and
renowned Brazilian professionals will be in attendance, along with about 30 international
speakers.
Prof. Dr. Irineu Tadeu Velasco
(São Paulo, Brazil)
Professor and Chief: Emergency
Department, University of São Paulo,
School of Medicine
President of the Third Brazilian
Congresso f Emergency Medicine
We also have the unqualified support of the International Federation for Emergency
Medicine and other major international medical societies working in the same area:
Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians, European Society for Emergency
Medicine, American College of Emergency Physicians, American Academy of Emergency Medicine, among others.
Another big difference, within the programming, is the I Brazilian Conference on Ultrasound in Emergency, which is a paradigm shift. For us, now, ultrasound performed in the
emergency room is a complementary tool of the physical examination, providing
valuable and fundamental information for key decisions and behaviors.
Our meeting in 2011 will be in Sao Paulo, one of the most important centers in Latin
America, especially in the medical field. Certainly, the III Brazilian Conference on Emergency Medicine will go down in
history in our struggle for the recognition of Emergency Medicine as a specialty and will involve over 5,000 participants.
I count on the presence of all Brazilians who share our desire to see a strong Emergency Medicine facility, organized and
recognized in our country.
MESSAGE FROM THE SCIENTIFIC DIRECTOR
For the recognition of true Emergency Medicine in Brazil!
It is with great satisfaction that the Scientific Committee of the III Brazilian Conference on
Emergency Medicine and of the I Brazilian Conference on Ultrasound in Emergency
welcomes the emergency doctors of our beloved country!
We seek to form a committee with all the doctors, teachers, researchers and professionals
who do work with Emergency Medicine, without restriction to city, state, hospital or university;
after all, no-one can own a specialty.
Additionally, we incorporate our emergency medicine colleagues from Canada, Australia,
New Zealand and the United States into the scientific committee, scientifically qualifying the
event even more.
Pluralism, democracy, participation, representation, professionalism, ethics, qualification
and competence. These are some of the qualities of the scientific committee! However,
none of these do any good if its members did not have love for Emergency Medicine. Not
for speech, opportunism, politics, vanity or theory. But for practice, for shifts, for day-to-day
work and for people who truly work in emergencies and struggle for dignity and recognition.
Thus, we count on the presence of all students and emergency doctors of Brazil and we
hope that the event is a landmark in the recognition of Emergency Medicine as a true
specialty in Brazil, which, by the way, is already more than 30 years behind!
