Pastor’s Note
Dear Parishioners,
Sacramental Information
Baptism
As we continue reflecting on the meaning of the
Eucharist, we believe that the risen Christ is truly present
in his Church in many ways: in Scriptures, in the Church’s
prayer and worship “where two or three are gathered in
my name” (Mt 18:20) and in the poor, the sick and the
imprisoned (Mt 25: 31-46), in the sacraments and in his
ministers.
Contact the Parish office to arrange for baptismal preparation. Baptisms are celebrated monthly except during Lent.
Spanish Prep Class: 1st Mon at 7 pm; Baptism: 3rd Sat at 10 am
English Prep Class: 2nd Mon at 7 pm; Baptism: 4th Sat at 10 am
Weddings
Arrangements need to be made at least six months in
advance. Call the Parish office.
Rosary
But Christ is present most especially and in a unique way
under the Eucharistic species, the consecrated bread and
wine: here in the Blessed Sacrament, “the whole Christ
is truly, really, and substantially contained” (CCC n.
1374).
The Rosary is recited daily after the 8 am Mass and
before the 5:30 pm Mass on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The Hispanic Community has a Rosary Hour every
Monday at 6 pm in the Rectory Chapel.
As Catholic Christians we believe this simply because
Jesus says of the bread and wine: “This is my body”,
“This is my blood” (Mk 14:22-24).
sacrament in a way that can be grasped only by
FAITH, not by our senses (n. 1381).
The risen Christ continues to say these words today
through the ministry of his priests.
Jesus himself is our bread of life (Jn 6:48). The conversion
of the bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Christ
happens “in a way surpassing understanding” (n.
1333).
Our Catechism highlights the role of the Holy Spirit as
the one who “makes present the mystery of Christ,
supremely in the Eucharist” (n. 737).
The Western Church’s focus on Christ’s words of institution or consecration (‘This is my Body’, ‘This is my
blood’) and the Eastern Church’s focus on the invocation
of the Holy Spirit (the epiclesis) are woven together in the
Catechism’s repeated teaching that the bread and wine
become Christ’s body and blood “by the words of
institution and the invocation of the Spirit” (n. 13331375).
By the power of the Spirit and the words of Jesus, Christ
himself is “really and mysteriously made present” (n.
1357). The whole living Christ is PRESENT in this
Our Catholic Church insists on three points here:
1) the whole Christ is really and truly present (it
is not just a ‘spiritual’ presence), but it is
2) a presence “in the manner of substance” (something beyond the senses, ‘metaphysical’)
and
3) it is a sacramental presence (the presence of
an invisible reality through visible sign). These
three points must be held together.
As the Catechism puts it: “Under the consecrated species
of bread and wine Christ himself, living and glorious, is
present in a true, real and substantial manner: his Body
and Blood, with his soul and divinity” (n. 1413). This substantial presence of the risen and glorified Lord is there
for us “under the consecrated species”.
Whatever way we receive communion, we need to
remember that it is Christ himself that we receive, and it is
important that we prepare ourselves for so holy a moment. It is our inward preparation that allows our hearts,
minds and lives to be purified, renewed and opened to the
presence of Christ.

Knights of Columbus Corner
On Sunday, April 26, the St. Clare of Assisi Council of
the Knights of Columbus hosted a BBQ for the RCIA.
Members of the RCIA classes dating back to the early
2000s came. Forty five members, their wives, husbands
and children were served hot dogs, hamburgers, homemade beans and salad; followed by cookies and soft
drinks. A great time was had by all and four new Catholic
men took the first step toward becoming Knights.

The Social Justice Committee invites you to join
Catholics taking action in our families, parishes, schools
and communities to reduce our carbon footprint, care for
“the least of these” (Mt. 25) and raise our voice on behalf
of Creation and the poor.
The impact of climate change falls heaviest on
the world’s poor. As Catholics, our faith demands
prudent action.
As faithful Catholics, we have a moral obligation to care

Scripture Readings
for THIS Sunday
First Reading: Acts 10:25-26, 34-35, 44-48
Psalm: 98
Second Reading: 1 John 4:11-16
Gospel Reading: John 15:9-17
Last Sunday we heard the familiar passage from John’s
Gospel in which Jesus uses the metaphor of the vine and
the branches. In that passage we were told that if we
remained in Christ we would bear much fruit. Today’s
Gospel tells us just what that fruit is: love.
Today’s second reading and Gospel together create a
great hymn to love. The chorus of this hymn is simple—
God loves us so much that Jesus was sent into the world
so that we would have life.
The Lord Jesus, who last week told us to remain in him,
this week tells us to remain in his love. In a world marked
by division and terrorism, the Lord’s final words in today’s
Gospel are a great challenge: “This I command you: love
on another.”

Boletim Paroquial Português
Domingo VI da Páscoa
Boletín Parroquial Español
Ámense Unos a Otros
essência do Amor.
bem. A alegria de Deus é o espelho do amor. Jesus chama
A alegria
vos amei.”

escola paroquial. O nosso pastor, padre Tad espera pela
participação da nossa comunidade. A Connie Silveira e a
