pragmatismo, princípios versus

mundo, só não conseguiram
concordar em como fazê-lo.
In 1971, a group of friends sail
into a nuclear test zone and
their protest captures the world’s
imagination, giving birth to
Greenpeace and defining the
modern green movement. The
film is an intimate portrait of
the group’s original members
and of activism itself - idealism
vs. pragmatism, principle vs.
compromise. They agreed that a
handful of people could change
the world; they just couldn’t
always agree on how to do it.

Winner of the 2007 Best Documentary Oscar, An Inconvenient Truth,
based on the homonym book written
by former vice-president, journalist
and climate activist Al Gore, was a pioneer in explaining clearly the climate
change process occurred in the last
thousands of years on Earth, extracted from a careful analysis of the ice in
Antarctica.
The film promoted the discussion of complex issues in a closer,
more direct and relatively simple
language, despite the critique made
about personification and the mix
of fact and hypothesis. However, it is
undeniable that the terms “climate
change” and “global warming” were
highly disseminated by the film. Al
Gore made the headlines like no
other scientist or activist until then.
In 2007, Gore and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change
(IPCC) won the Nobel Prize for the
work of disseminating knowledge
on climate change.
Watching An Inconvenient Truth
again 10 years after its launch in
this 5th edition of the Festival together with various other films on
the issue is important for an evaluation of the progress. Despite all
data accumulated and the constant
dissemination, there are still denier
movements and lobbies, which confuse people and promote insecurity
and doubt over the climate issue.

Ganhador do Oscar de Melhor Documentário em 2007, Uma Verdade Inconveniente, baseado no livro homônimo de Al
Gore (ex-vice-presidente dos EUA, jornalista
e ativista da causa climática), foi pioneiro em explicar com clareza o processo de
aquecimento global juntamente ao registro climático dos últimos milhares de anos
da Terra, obtido a partir do exame acurado
do testemunho de gelo da Antártida.
O filme contribuiu para promover a reflexão e o debate sobre questões complexas de
forma mais próxima, numa linguagem direta e relativamente simples, em que pesem
as críticas de personalização e a mistura de
fatos e hipóteses. É inegável que os termos
“mudança climática” e “aquecimento global”
foram amplamente disseminados após o filme. Al Gore ganhou destaque em veículos de
comunicação como nenhum outro cientista
ou ativista havia conseguido até então. Em
2007, Gore e o Painel Intergovernamental
pelo Clima (IPCC) ganharam o Prêmio Nobel
da Paz pelo trabalho de disseminação do conhecimento sobre as mudanças climáticas.
Rever Uma Verdade Inconveniente dez
anos depois de seu lançamento, junto aos
vários outros filmes contemporâneos sobre o
tema “mudanças climáticas” presentes nesta
5ª Mostra, é importante para avaliarmos o
quanto avançamos nessa questão. Apesar de
todos os dados acumulados e em processo de
divulgação permanente, ainda hoje existem
movimentos e lobbies negacionistas, que
contribuem para confundir e gerar insegurança e dúvida sobre a questão climática.

o aquecimento global”, Gore
vai a mídia como nunca antes:
