Tips for a Trip To Lisbon
Here are some places you mustn’t miss in Lisbon:
1) Monastery of Jerónimos (in Belém) and Tower of Belém
2) Castle of St Jorge
3) A trip on tram number 28
4) Visit downtown historic center (Baixa) and Chiado
5) Climb the Arch in Rua Augusta (you can take great pictures from there)
6) Visit Oceanario in the beautiful and modern area of "Parque das Nações" (I used to live there
during the time I worked at Nova School of Business and Economics)
7) Visit and eat in a food markets: Mercado da Ribeira, Mercado de Algés, and Mercado de
Campo de Ourique.
Food you must taste during your trip:
0) Soup of the day (any soup anywhere is excellent)
1) Seafood Rice (Arroz de Marisco)
2) Shellfish Cataplana (Cataplana de Marisco)
3) Grilled Sardines (Sardinha Assada, ou Sardinha na Brasa)
4) Açorda de Marisco (Bread, garlic, shrimps mix)
5) Ameijoas à Bulhão Pato (Clams Bulhão Pato Style)
6) Grilled Fish (Linguado, Dourada, Robalo, Salmonetes, and many others)
7) Codfish any style (I like the one with "batatas ao murro," i.e., punched potatoes)
8) Vinho Verde (Green Wine) "Muralhas de Monção" and Vinho Tinto (Red Wine) I prefer red
wines from Alentejo (e.g., “Herdade dos Lagos,” “Herdade do Peso,” “Dona Maria”) but wine
experts prefer red wines from the Douro Valley.
9) Fresh fruit: Ameixas, Laranjas, Pêras Rocha, Melão, Melância, Figos, Uvas, etc.
Locations where you can stay:
-If you like to stay in old and typical neighborhoods try Chiado, Alfama, or Principe Real.
-If you like to stay in dynamic and centrally located neighborhoods try either Baixa or
Campolide.
For a night out in Lisbon you can head to Bairro Alto and enjoy the lively atmosphere. You can
also go to a Fado house. I recommend “Mesa de Frades” in Alfama. Fados start around 23:00
pm and go on until 3:00 am:

If you plan to stay for a week then you must take one day or two days to visit Sintra. This is one
of the most beautiful places in Portugal and it is just 25 kilometers away from Lisbon. You can
get there very easily by train. In Sintra you must visit:
