CELIO BRAGA
Born in 28/10/1963, Guimarania, Minas Gerais, Brazil.
Lives and works in São Paulo, SP, Brazil and Amsterdan.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Graduated in 2000 in Fine Arts from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie - Amsterdam - Netherlands. His works moves at the boundary between
drawing, painting, sculpture and the object. The starting point is the line and the grid and take shape in acts of tie, cover, mend, mending,
cutting, embroidery, reissue in a constant and exhaustive process of destroying and remaking. Simple, artisanal and intuitive architecture,
are built with various materials such as old works fragments, drawings that are being cut, fabric pieces, ribbons (Senhor do Bonfim da Bahia),
photographs and medicine leaflets. The work takes different and complex shapes and can be displayed both on walls, deposited on the
ground, hanging from the ceiling or on pedestals or furniture. One of the intentions of the artist is to create work that somehow come close to
magical objects and that looks like prayers, whispers, silences or litanies. Celio Braga has participated in numerous group and solo
exhibitions in Europe, USA and Brazil. His work is part of the permanent collection of the Stedelijk Museum of Amsterdam, Tilburg Textile
Museum, CODA-Apeldoorn Museum Collection AMC Amsterdam, ROTASA Collection-USA among others.
