The present invention consists of a hygro-adjustable ventilation system for the treatment of rising damp.
HUMIVENT accelerates the transportation of moisture to the exterior and reduces the level of degradation of
masonry in historic buildings.

Rising damp is one of the most important factors in the degradation of masonry in historic buildings. The level of
damp and the damage produced by it, especially through salt dissolution and crystallization, depends on multiple
factors: the hygric properties of the materials, the layers? permeability to vapour, inner and exterior climatic
conditions, etc .
Traditional methods of dealing with this problem are not effective in resolving all aspects, for which reason a new
wall base ventilation technique is proposed using the device ?HUMIVENT?. Wall base ventilation allows control of
the maximum level reached by the damp front .
The system uses air to transport moisture and requires channels to be placed at the base of the walls, below
ground level. The circulation of air in the interior is controlled by the ?HUMIVENT? device .
The system consists of a ventilator, of variable speed, activated by a set of temperature and relative humidity
probes that transmit information to the ventilator depending on the hygrothermal conditions of the incoming and
outgoing air.
This system solves rising damp problems in historical buildings requiring minimal energy expenditure. It
accelerates wall drying processes and reduces the level of rising damp, preventing air to circulate again and with
no direct intervention on the wall.
