Though
 Pronunciação: T͟Hō/Dôu
 Pode ser utilizado como conjunção ou como advérbio:
• Conjunção: significa “apesar de”, sinônimo de “in spite of the fact”
• Advérbio: significa “embora/mas/no entanto/entretanto”
Obama hails new Iraqi government as milestone, though challenges
remain.
[Obama exalta o novo governo do Iraque como um “marco”, embora os
desafios ainda estejam presentes.]
Though it was raining, we went for a walk.
[Embora estivesse chovendo, nós saímos para caminhar.]
He went on fighting even though he was wounded.
[Ele continuou lutando mesmo estando ferido.]
Especialmente no inglês falado, podemos usar o though com um
significado semelhante ao de however, nevertheless ou but:
It was very cloudy. It didn’t rain, though.
[Estava muito nublado, mas não choveu.]
“Yeah, I don’t mind, though. I’ll just read a book.”
[Pode crê, mas eu não importo. Eu vou ler um livro.]
 Extra Tip:
Enquanto conjunções, although e though são equivalentes. No
entanto, although é considerado mais formal do que though.
Through

 Pronunciação: Thrú/THroo
 Em seu contexto mais usado, through pode significar através ou
por, no sentido de (entre em um lado e sai no outro) e no sentido
de (a caminho).
He went through the tunnel.
[Ele passou pelo túnel.]
We went through São Francisco on the way to Porto Alegre.
[Passamos por São Francisco a caminho de Porto Alegre.]
As we go through the book, we can make notes in the end of each
chapter.
[Conforme lemos o livro, podemos fazer anotações no final de
cada capítulo.]
Thought
 Pronunciação: Thôt/thót
 Thought pode significar pensar, pensamento, idéia/reflexão; passado ou
particípio passado do verbo to think:
• No sentido de ideia:
I had a thought last night, why don’t we go camping next week?
[Eu tive uma idéia ontem a noite, porque não vamos acampar semana que vem?]
• No sentido de uma idea ou opinião produzida através de pensamento:
Maggie had a sudden thought.
[Maggie teve um idéia/pensamento repentino.]
• No sentido de considerar cuidadosamente ou dar atenção:
“I don’t know, I haven’t given it much thought yet.”
[Eu não sei, eu não dei muita atenção pra isso ainda.]
• No sentido de estar na mente ou ter atenção de alguém:
He’s is in our thoughts and prayers.
[Ele está nos nossos pensamentos e orações.]
Thorough
 Pronunciação: ˈTHərō/Thérô/Thorou
 Thorough pode significar meticuloso, cuidadoso, aprofundado.
• No sentido de aprofundado, ele diz respeito a todos os detalhes; não
superficial ou parcial:
Surgeons need to have a thorough understanding of human anatomy.
[Cirurgiões precisam ter um conhecimento aprofundado da anatomia
humana.]
• No sentido de meticuloso:
The police made a thorough examination of the crime scene.
[A polícia fez um exame meticuloso da cena do crime.]
• No sentido de cuidadoso:
I’m very thorough with my finances.
[Eu sou muito cuidadoso com minhas finanças.]
Tough
 Pronunciação: Tâf
 Tough significa forte, duro, difícil:
Rugby players are tough guys.
[Os jogadores do rugby são caras durões/fortes/robustos.]
I went through a tough time when my dog passed.
[Eu passei por um momento difícil quando meu cachorro morreu.]
He’s a tough person to be around.
[Ele é um pessoa difícil de estar por perto.]
Throughout
 Pronunciação: Thrú out/THro͞o out/ thruaut
 Throughout significa “por inteiro”, “por completo”, “em sua totalidade”
This new product is going to be a big success throughout Brazil!
[Este novo produto será um sucesso em todo o Brasil!]
They looked for the missing student throughout the school.
[Procuraram pelo estudante sumido por toda a escola.]
