MAKING CONNECTIONS: LUTHER, DINAH AND ASIAN WOMAN

RESUMO
Este ensaio será uma ocupação crítica e pós-colonial feminista índia/ asiática com a interpretação de Lutero
de Gênesis 34. O ensaio buscará identificar as doutrinas influentes que moldaram a interpretação de Lutero
deste texto. Dará atenção às implicações da leitura de Lutero para a igreja como um todo e para mulheres
em particular e as perspectivas que oferece para o empoderamento de uma imaginação informada, justiça,
os direitos das mulheres desprivilegiadas na Ásia cujas vozes, vidas e lutas, são frequentemente silenciadas
ou contidas.
ABSTRACT
This paper will be a critical and Indian/Asian feminist postcolonial engagement with Luther’s interpretation
of Genesis 34. The paper will attempt to identify the influential doctrines that shaped Luther’s
interpretation of this text. It will draw attention to the implications of Luther’s reading to the church as a
whole and to women in particular and the insights it offers to the empowering of an informed imagination,
justice, the rights of the disenfranchised women of Asia whose voices, lives and struggles, are often
silenced or contained.

Monica Jyotsna Melanchthon é ministra ordenada da Igreja Evangélica Luterana de
Andhra Pradesh, Índia. É graduada pelo United Theological College, Bangalore, e
tem doutorado pela Lutheran School of Theology, em Chicago. Atualmente, leciona
Antigo Testamento/Bíblica Hebraica no Pilgrim Theological College,
Parkville/Victoria, Austrália. Está comprometida com pessoas à margem da
sociedade, especialmente mulheres e dalits. Tem contribuído para desenvolver
hermenêutica e teologia feminista dalit e indiana. É palestrante frequente em
eventos da Society of Biblical Literature (SBL), a Federação Luterana Mundial e
outros espaços acadêmicos e eclesiásticos.
