The “Gruta das Torres” is a volcanic cave, located in Pico Island, Azores, classified in 2004 as Regional Natural Monument. Except this wall, the building was coated with a protection/finished black color, to resemble the texture of vitrified rock in the interior of the cave. The initiative to open it to the public also became necessary the construction of a building support at the visitor but the protection of the skylight of access to the cave for that architectural project looked for to draw this protection simultaneously and the building it self through a waving wall of rock that transforms into an net when touching the building. This light entrance, continuum and filtered, allows to illuminate the building in a nonhomogeneous form, preventing the existence of a windows and doors. In the presence of a strong landscape we looked the integration of the building, drawing in a contemporary way, pursuing its adequacy at the scale, and nature, on the context where is introduced. 280 275 270 265 260 0 10 255 B A B A 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 PLAN LEGEND 1. SAMI OFFICE NOMINATED FOR ALEXANDRE HERCULANO AWARD, BY THE ASSOCIAÇÃO DE MUNICÍPIOS PORTUGUESES COM CENTRO HISTÓRICO, 2006. Dated by the end of XIX century, this apartment of two levels floors was refurnished with materials and constructive methods, looking to mantain unspoil the identidy of the building were he belongs to and its integration in the historical nucleus of the city of Setubal, Portugal. At the entrance up to the level floor the compartements had been suppressed in the interior, in a way wish allows the entrance of natural light all over the house, but the corridor was untoched for being the basic element for the characterization of the existing space. The attic shutter was drawn as a dormer window , wish controls the light entrance but also allows it to spread all over the space, ther for transforms it into a coated sized wood, for the exterior, draws out until a small deck where is possible to enjoy the sight of the river. The wood appeared as a element most appropriate to coat and unify this set by having a dark and delicate color when aging. The project looked up to develop strong aspects of the existing apartment and to redesign its space using the light as main element. ARCHITECTURE INÊS VIEIRA DA SILVA, MIGUEL VIEIRA AREA 160M2 STRUCTURAL ENGINEER EPO.LDA - ENG. JA APARTMENT The Project consists on a refurnished of an old latch apartment with 38m2 and very little quality space, located in a building of eight floors constructed in the 70’s, in Lisbon, Portugal For the requalification of this space we modified the distribution of the compartments in order to get the best light and the biggest possibility use, in such a reduced area. Although the room has been placed at the entrance, a daggerboard panel with a open door allows to transform it into one loft or to close it in one room with privacy. The kitchen connects into the living room/dining room by its dark colour, being able to be open without imposing. Together with the Sanitary Installations, defines a volume space that is all through the apartment and where are concentrate the necessary infrastructures. ARCHITECTURE INÊS VIEIRA DA SILVA, MIGUEL VIEIRA AREA 35M2 TEAM ANDREIA LUÍS, RITA RODRIGUES, ANA FILIPA SANTOS PHOTOGRAPHS FG + SG ARCHITECTURAL PHOTOGRAPHY PICO ISLAND, AZORES, PORTUGAL_2003/2007 08. INTERPRETATION CENTRE OF WORLD HERITAGE LANDSCAPE In its adaptation to the Interpretation Centre of World Heritage Landscape of Pico Island was represented to us that the value to keep the environment of the Cheerful House and to explore the alternation between this and the environment of the new spaces profits to the existing structure. In the ground floor was achieved to gain an excellent exposed space coated by the exterior with darkened glass in order to prevent the vain drawing. The structural reinforcement of the building was made with a plaster resource to the whitewash base, specifically produced for this, and with steel portholes applied to the preexisting elements of wooden. While the old spaces will have its constructive elements as basic as points of identification, the new spaces will have an covering uniform in the walls and ceiling, becoming clearer the reading of a preexisting object. 1ST PHASE FINISHED IN FEBRUARY 2006 2ND PHASE UNDER CONSTRUCTION ARCHITECTURE INÊS VIEIRA DA SILVA, MIGUEL VIEIRA ARCHITECTURE INÊS VIEIRA DA SILVA, MIGUEL VIEIRA TEAM ANDREIA LUÍS TEAM MÓNICA GOULART ELECTRICAL ENGINEER SERAFÍN GRAÑA (TERMIFRIO, LDA) STRUCTURAL ENGINEER RUI BORGES PEREIRA MECHANICAL ENGINEER SERAFÍN GRAÑA (TERMIFRIO, LDA) CLIENT DIRECÇÃO REGIONAL DO AMBIENTE. LAJIDO’S RESORT The Tourist Resort of Lajido is placed in a landscape background of rare beauty, once that opens itself upon the Pico mountain and throughout a landscape, in to the vineyard culture, classified as World Heritage Landscape by UNESCO. The drawing of the Resort and its buildings had as principal basis the careful reading of the territory and the local traditional construction. The visual continuity with the landscape seemed us essential by which the intervention looks worthy of respect, preventing the construction of a dense and dark mass and using the basalt rock as unifying element. So the various constructions are connected by a wall of stone and had been disposed in order that each building adapt itself in the best way to the topography land, and to its favourable frame accommodating , with the maximum privacy between itself. All the apartments are involved by the mentioned wall that is only interrupted to give place at entire vain, protected by wooden panels painted with red colour. The Room is the primordial space of the house for allowing the opening over the landscape. The porch, drawn inside the volume of the apartment, allows the extension of the living room to the exterior creating a space of transition between the landscape and the house. COMPETITION CENTRE FOR URBAN INFORMATION The existing building presents a consistent originalinality at the level of its internal structuture, through its thick walls and vaults cannon of great support. We worked the drawing covering, making use in the prolongation in the top roof of the adjacent buildings, giving its direction in order to turn into the square, and concluding the drawing block. When recovering the initial idea of a massive volume, gained superiority the treatment to give at the illumination that would be made through small openings, of varied dimensions, that would alternate the natural light with the artificial light. This illumination would be supported through the energy caught for photovoltaic located panels in the South source covering The intention was that this building could be the face of a participated city , and at night, the mirror of its glamour. ARQUITECTURA INÊS VIEIRA DA SILVA, MIGUEL VIEIRA NATURAL VENTILATION DESIGN GUILHERME CARRILHO DA GRAÇA (NATURALWORKS—ENGINEERING CONSULTANTS) TEAM ANDREIA LUÍS, RITA RODRIGUES LANDSCAPE DESIGN F&C ARQUITECTURA PAISAGISTA STRUCTURAL ENGINEER MARTA GAMEIRO, RUI MESTRE (GRAVIDADE - ENGENHEIROS LDA.) C+Z HOUSE This house intends to open up over the varied landscapes that from the highest point of the land we catch sight of. Starting from a set of separate volumes between itself, and following the adaptation of the traditional architecture to the land, was drawn the outcome space between the four volumes as space to be on, whose walls are the continuity of the exterior front and where only the glass makes the separation between the exterior and the interior space of the house. According to the predominant of the wind or the intended sight, the house opens itself into the various landscapes and its connection and permeability with the exterior is absolute. The massive volume in darkened wood is changed into four volumes when the biggest glass cloths is open allowing the extension on the some platforms of the house Will be used a system of light steel frame for the construction of this building which was conceived in a way to get the A+ classification of the point of view of its EnergyPlus model efficiency. ARQUITECTURA INÊS VIEIRA DA SILVA, MIGUEL VIEIRA ACOUSTICAL PROJECT GUILHERME CARRILHO DA GRAÇA (NATURALWORKS—ENGINEERING CONSULTANTS) TEAM DANIEL MENTECH THERMAL PROJECT GUILHERME CARRILHO DA GRAÇA (NATURALWORKS—ENGINEERING CONSULTANTS) STRUCTURAL ENGINEER ENGIAÇO NATURAL VENTILATION DESIGN GUILHERME CARRILHO DA GRAÇA (NATURALWORKS—ENGINEERING CONSULTANTS) ELECTRICAL ENGINEER ENGIAÇO AREA 300 M2 ELBLAG, POLAND_2007 22.
