Purpose :To describe an iris-fixated posterior chamber technique for the
correction of aphakia and to report the results obtained with it. Methods: This
study comprised 10 eyes of 9 patients (five men, four women) submitted to iris
fixated PC IOL implantation for the correction of aphakia. The preoperative
database best-corrected visual acuity, refraction, endothelial cell count,
evaluation of IOL position and Optical Coeherence Tomography
.Nonparametric tests were used for statistical analysis (P< 0.05
significant). Results: Preoperatively, best-corrected visual acuity ranged from
20/20 to 20/ 400. At the last postoperative examination, the BCVA remained
within one line of preoperative levels in 4 eyes, improved in 5 and impaired in
one . According to the Scheimpflug’s principle, no eye presented an IOL
decentration greater than 1.00 mm. There were no intraoperative
complications. Postoperative complications were: Inflammatory membrane,
AC vitreous, Retinal Detachment, Pupil ovalization, Iris atrophy and IOL
dislocation. Conclusion : The iris-fixated foldable PC IOL technique is useful
in aphasics eyes, but large cohort patients is necessary.
