VAPOR – SOLO SHOW BY BERNA REALE AT GALERIA MILLAN
Galeria Millan held from November 18 to December 20, 2014, the first solo exhibition of
the artist Berna Reale in Sao Paulo. Curated by Rudolf Schmitz, Vapor shows exhibited six
videos - that record performances of the artist in Belém (PA), his hometown - plus new
series of photographs. With strong political content, the exhibition highlighted the most
recent phase of Berna Reale, who has dedicated his work to denounce, poetically,
situations of violence, abuse of power and social conflicts that pervade their everyday life:
Berna is criminal expert at the Center for Scientific Expertise of Pará.
The show launched three unpublished videos: Rosa púrpura, Imunidade and Cantando na
chuva. In the first, Berna and a group of 50 high school marching through the streets of
Belém, followed by a military band. All women are dressed in uniforms typical of traditional
schools - just blouses and skirts fold, but the color pink - by pressing the mouth
prostheses that refer to sex dolls. Posters with pictures of these girls will spread São
Paulo, on points such as cinemas, theaters, cultural centers, art schools and others, in
order to disseminate the exposure and spread its theme. During the exhibition, the artist
fed your website www.bernareale.com with testimony from some of the participants
performance in describing their experiences with violence and sexual coercion.
In Imunidade, Berna Reale sails on a gondola through the sewers of Bethlehem,
accompanied on the vessel 500 rats. This work was produced from the award of the
artist Joaquim Nabuco Foundation. And the video Cantando na chuva is the most ironic:
Berna, dressed entirely in gold, including umbrella and gas mask, dance superbly to music

The works Americano, Ordinário and Soledade complete the exhibition set of videos,
displayed on the ground floor of the Galeria Millan. These three works were produced in
2013, but were not exposed in Sao Paulo. In Americano, Berna Reale takes the "torch of
freedom" to the aisles of a Pará prison. In the work Ordinário, she carries in a
wheelbarrow bones of anonymous murder victims. And Soledade, the artist travels down
a street that integrates drug trafficking route in Belém in a golden Roman chariot pulled
by pigs.
Upstairs Gallery, the artist also showed new series of photographs, also called Rosa
púrpura, in which he explores the issue of sexual violence.
