1. Enclosed are DepEd Memorandum No. 138, s.2011 entitled'Dissemination of
Presidential Proclamation No. 182' and a lefter from Br. Armin A. Luistro, Secretary,
Department of Education, the contents of which are both self-explanatory.

This Office requests all schools divisions, public and private schools' officials,
teachers, students and other stakeholders to support this' nationwide campaign for the
Puerto Princesa Underground River (PPUR) as one of the New Seven Wonders of Nature
(N7WN) through mobile phone texting or intemet. Text: PPUR Send to: 2861 all networks or
logged on www.new7wonders.com,.

All votes of the school officials, teachers, students and other stakeholders are to be
reported to the school principals who will then submit a report to their respective Schools
Division Superintendent. The Ofiice of the Schools Division Superintendent is tasked to
summarize all schools reports and submit a report to the Regionat Office in a weekly basis
on the total number of texters/emailed. ln turn, the Regional Office will consolidate all the
division reports and will submit to the DepEd Central Office the aforesaid report every end of
the month until November 10, 2A11.

For an easy monitoring of the campaign, please submit to the Regional Office the

e, the scientists and explorers of the La Venta Esploraziorri Geografiche, explored and
researched the Puerto Princesa Underground River extensively inthe years 2000, 2007,
2008 and 2011.
While the main active branch, or the nrain undergiouncl river irself. hars a total length of
8.2 kms, from the inflow to the outilow (or the main entrance of tourists), thus far, the total
exploration has mapped out more than 30 kms of total developrnent of the undergror:nd
system.
Along ihese galleries, astounding calcite helictites or crystal fornrations, were
discovered, demonstrating that the Puerto Princesa Untlerground River is indeed
extremely important from the point of view of speleothems and cave rninerals, rnaking
this karst system truly exceptional worldwide.
aving studied the hydrodynamics and the hydrochemistry of the Puerio Princesa
Underground River, having conducted micro-meteorological researches, having
completed some topographic surveys, whidh unearthed interesting morplrologies and,
finally, having conducted a paloontological study on several bones discovered
embedded in one of the cave walls, we hereby declare that the Puertq Princesa
Underground River is a True Wonder of Nature that can be considered one of the most
fascinating tourist attraclions in the world today.

The Underground River, located about 50 km north of Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, is an
8.2-km navigable underground river - the longest in the world. lt features limestone

located about 50 km north
Princesta, Palawan, PhilWines.
of the city of puerto
It features a
limestone
karst mauntain landscape with an 8.2 km. navigable
underground river, A distircguishing _feature af the river is
that it winds through a cave before flowing directly into
the South China Sea. It includes major formations of
stalactites and stalagmites, and several large chambers.
.The lower portion
of the river is subject to tidat
influences. The underground river ls reputed to be the
world's longest. At the mouth of the cave, a clear lagoon
is
framed by ancient trees growing right to the water's
edge. Monkeys, large monitor lizards, and squirrels
their niche on the beach near the cave.
