San Dimas Western Days Weekend
Calling all K-9s and Companions: Heehaw!
Yep, it’s time to round up those little “dogies” and reserve a
spot to walk with the Friends of the Dog Park in this
year’s Western Days Parade on Saturday, October 6th.
Add your name to the “Parading Pack of Pooches” by
replying to [email protected] or sending a
note to Friends, P.O. Box 613, San Dimas, CA 91773.
Sign-up deadline is Sunday, September 30th.
The parade route is Gladstone at San Dimas Avenue,
south to Bonita, west to Cataract and ending at Pioneer
Park (a walking distance of about 1 mile). Our group will
then gather at the Dog Park Watering Hole for picture
taking and treats to celebrate a job well done.
This event offers a chance to show our appreciation to
the City of San Dimas for providing a safe, wellmaintained, leash-free park where pets and their people
can socialize and make new friends.
The San Dimas Chamber of Commerce sponsors this
action-packed weekend where there is fun for everyone.
Dog Days of Summer
From sizzling asphalt to overheating during play at the
dog park (especially snub-nosed canines like pugs and
bulldogs), a pet’s health depends on the good judgment of
its people. Never leave pets unattended in a car, even if
parked in the shade with windows cracked. The inside of a
vehicle can reach 120 degrees in a matter of minutes.
Tips for Hot Dogs from Cool Guardians





Freeze beef bouillon in ice cube trays and offer as
special cooling off treats.
Dogs cool from the bottom up, so spray from the
paws to the stomach—not just on their backs.
A child-size wading pool under a shady tree gives
cool relief on scorching hot days.
When walking/hiking, a wet or gel-filled bandana
tied around a dog’s neck provides relief from heat.
A fan set up in front of a pan of ice cubes generates
low-cost air conditioning.

San Dimas Day at the L.A. County Fair
The Friends of the Dog Park will join in honoring our
city at this year’s Community Days Expo on Friday,
September 28th. In addition to sharing our Dog Park
Pointers and stressing the importance of spaying and
neutering pets, we will provide games for some 1,900 San
Dimas students who will be attending compliments of the
FairKids Field Trip Program sponsored by the San
Dimas Community Committee.
In addition to all that the L.A. County Fair has to offer,
this special day will include:
 Community and Business Expo
 Horse Race
 Community Days Parade
 High School Marching Band Competition
 Community Hero Awards Ceremony
 Evening Entertainment.
We appreciate the opportunity to spread the word about
our pet’s favorite place to play. We hope to see you there!
A faithful friend may be just a shelter visit away.
Until there are none, adopt one!
Not everyone knows how to love a dog,
but every dog knows how to love a person.

Tennis (Balls) Anyone?
Unlike favorite toys
brought from home,
tennis
balls
are
perfect for pets to play
fetch without the
worry of possession
obsession.
Do you know that the
balls you see at the
dog park are replaced
with clean ones every
day? For this to be
possible, it requires
the use of 35 each
week. Since balls can
be washed just so many times, donations of “discards” are
especially appreciated.
If you can help, please leave balls in a bag (for future
distribution) hanging on the fence near the entry gate.
Consider yourselves thanked!
