PRO-LIFE CORNER – “The real question today is not when human life begins, but, what is the value of
human life? The abortionist who reassembles the arms and legs of a tiny baby to make sure all its parts
have been torn from its mother’s body can hardly doubt whether it is a human being. The real question
for him and for all of us is whether that tiny human life has a God-given right to be protected by the
law–the same right we have.” Ronald Reagan

ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL
CONGRATULATIONS– WE HAVE REACHED OUR GOAL IN PLEDGES, BUT WE WANT TO GO WAY, WAY
OVER THE GOAL! Our sincere thanks for your generosity during the 2014 Annual Catholic Appeal. Your
gifts and pledges will have a lasting impact on or ability to serve the People of God here in Brooklyn and
Queens.
As of July 14th our parish had 169 pledges for a total of $59,058 which represents 109.6% of our parish goal
($53,901). Of this amount, $47,723 has already been paid. This means that about 16% of our registered parish
families have already pledged almost 100% of our parish goal! Your generosity is crucial to providing vital pastoral,
charitable and educational ministries throughout the Diocese and all gifts, great or small, help us to do God’s work.
We thank ALL who have pledged so far and urge every family to make an effort to support the Appeal.
PLEASE REMEMBER THAT ALL MONIES RECEIVED OVER THE GOAL WILL BE RETURNED TO THE PARISH
AND WILL ASSIST US IN MEETING OUR MANY EXPENSES. WE STILL NEED 77 ADDITONAL PLEDGES TO
EQUAL LAST YEAR’S TOTAL OF 242. PLEASE HELP US!!
May God bless each one of us for responding to this call with so much enthusiasm and generosity!

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
Dear Parishioners,
This Sunday I am turning over this space to our long-time Parish Music Director,
Josephine Sanges, who has an important message to share with all of you.
“Dear Parishioners of Our Lady of Fatima,
In the 26 years that I have had the privilege to work here at Our Lady of
Fatima so many wonderful memories come to mind, far too many to mention.
In that time I have been very fortunate to work for kind and generous pastors,
Msgr. Breen, Msgr, Brennan and Msgr. Mahoney, each having always been
very supportive of me and of Music Ministry in our parish. The priests, the
parish staff, Stephen Smith, the members of our parish choirs, and parishioners
here at Our Lady of Fatima have become an extended family to me throughout
my time here, and for that I will always be grateful. Life presents itself with many new challenges
along the way, and with those challenges, change is inevitable. I have recently accepted the position
of Director of Music at my home parish of Notre Dame beginning September 1st. I have always
considered Our Lady of Fatima a second home and leaving here is so very bitter sweet. Please keep
me in your prayers as I will keep you in mine. I will always remember Our Lady
of Fatima with great fondness. Never stop singing!”
Josephine Sanges
I am quite certain that all of you want to join me in expressing our heartfelt thanks to
Josephine Sanges for her many years of dedicated and faithful service here at Our Lady of
Fatima. Her extraordinary voice has always graced and enriched our parish liturgies. She has
worked tirelessly with our choirs and has served as a generous, cooperative and supportive
member of our Pastoral Staff. She has been a vitally important part of our parish life and,
although we sincerely wish her well in her new position, we know that we will miss her very,
very much! It is my hope that sometime in September we will have a Farewell Celebration for
Josephine to express our gratitude. With her gracious assistance I have begun to interview
candidates for the position of Parish Music Director. Josephine, please know that our prayers
go with you and that you will always have a special place in all of our hearts!
Msgr. Mahoney

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
Queridos Feligreses:
voy a estar agradecida.
Siempre he considerado que Nuestra
enriquecido nuestras liturgias parroquiales.
expresarle nuestra gratitud.
Mons. Mahoney

COMING ATTRACTIONS
Our Lady of Fatima Parish will soon be introducing the option of ON-LINE GIVING to our parishioners.
The Passionist Missionaries goal is to promote the memory of
the Passion of Jesus Christ by witnessing and preaching to the
sufferings of our time. Through their projects in Kenya, they are
able to evangelize and promote integral human development.
Their projects involve programs and activities for alleviating poverty and foster
social justice and economic empowerment of the communities they serve. They
have 40 seminarians, they run two orphanages with 70 orphans, and they support
poor widows in their missions. They organize and preach retreats for both religious and lay Faithful. Your generous support continues their mission affecting
a positive change in people's daily lives and the hope for a better tomorrow.
This weekend of July 19&20 we will have Fr. Gilbert Omolo, cp, a Passionist
priest from Kenya share with us his mission story.
