Formation of Comparative Adjectives
Existem duas formas de construção do comparativo de adjetivos short adjectives (adjetivos curtos):
acrescenta-se "-er" long adjectives(adjetivos longos) : usa-se "more"
SHORT ADJECTIVES
1-syllable adjectives (monossílabos)
2-syllable adjectives ending in –y (terminados em Y)
Normal rule(regra geral): acrescentar "-er"
old, fast
happy, easy
old → older
Variação: se oadjetivo termina em -e, apenas acrescenta-se -r
late → later
Variação: se o adjetivo termina em consoante, vogal, consoante, dobra-se a última big → bigger
consoante
happy→ happier
Variação: se o adjetivo termina em -y, troque o y por i
Long adjectives
2-syllable adjectives not ending in –y(monossílabos não terminados modern, pleasant
em y)
all adjectives of 3 or more syllables( todos os adjetivos com mais de expensive, intellectual
3 sílabas)
Normal rule: use "more"

With some 2-syllable adjectives, we can use '-er' or 'more':
