•luNCH-BrEAK 12h30 – 14h •WorKSHoPS 14h – 15h30 ROOM 1 You’rE oNlY AS BiG AS Your drEAmS – BE rEAdY to CoACH YourSElF! Juliana mello & lilian Hayasaka martins multi Holding – Yázigi ClA [email protected] ;[email protected] Yázigi OPs play a very important part in the success of the school and motivation of teachers and students. They deal with problems, work out solutions and actually make a difference in these people’s lives. It’s a rewarding position but it can be a tiring one if the OPs don’t look at themselves, their lives and careers, trying to maintain their spirits and motivation high. Self-coaching is a way of getting to know yourself better, your needs and take control of your time, tasks and talent. Going through this process will enable you to develop yourself into a better professional and a happier person. So, are you ready to coach yourself? ROOM 2 oP – A VAluABlE liGHtHouSE For tEACHErS marta Côrtes Gallotti Peixoto Fernandes Yázigi Florianópolis/SC [email protected] “Guide your teachers as a lighthouse: Allow them to make their own way through the classes, their sea. Do not chart their course for them, rather show them where the shore is and assist them in finding it themselves.” If a supportive in-service work of classroom observations, feedback and talk sessions, and pedagogical meetings does not take place, it is easy for teachers do deviate from their practice and fall into the trap of automatism. Pedagogical Coordinators can and must help their group of teachers to link their theoretical knowledge and their everyday practice. Results suggest that even when teachers’ theory-in-action differs from their espoused theory, with coordinators guidance and teachers’ reflection improvement occurs. The presenter of this workshop is going to share some of her worries and some taken actions to engage the pedagogical team in an ongoing process of self-reflection. The examples that will be discussed will focus on issues like increasing student’s talking time; promoting group and collaborative work; and especially on how to work with the three phases of a task in class. ROOM 3 ComENCÉ A dAr ClASES, ¿Y AHorA? tHE oP’S rolE iN tHE SPANiSH TEACHER DEVELOPMENT maria Fernanda lisboa multi Holding – Yázigi ClA [email protected] This workshop focuses on the relationship between the OP and the Spanish teacher. In this session, we will discuss the OP’s role in the Spanish teacher development process, how the OP can participate actively in this process and contribute for the teacher’s reflexive development. Many articles, such as Vieira- Abrahão (2001) and Almeida Filho (1997) discuss and reinforce the relevance of foreign language teacher’s in-service development. Therewith, the aim is to promote an improvement to the classes offered and, consequently, to empower the student’s satisfaction and permanence in the school. ROOM 4 ArE You NoVAtiNG or iNNoVAtiNG? Ana Cecília maciel & leonardo rodrigues tonasso Yázigi Atibaia/SP; Yázigi limeira/SP [email protected]; [email protected] Yázigi classrooms have been permeated by technology ever since. With the upcoming of internet, new features took place as the e-learning. Currently, m-learning and more recently, ubiquitous learning (u-learning) involves learning in an environment where “all students have access to a variety of digital devices and services, including computers connected to the Internet and mobile computing devices, whenever and wherever they need them” (van’t Hooft, Swan, Cook, & Lin, 2007, p. 6). So, the purpose of acquiring the use of the latest technology is not to simple “novate”, i.e, replace, but to “innovate”, i.e. to introduce changes and new ideas. As a result, new roles for the teachers, students, and learning are being designed in order to develop and maintain lifelong learning. Having this context as background, this workshop aims at presenting and working on the concepts mentioned, as well as providing the Pedagogical Coordinators some reflection about trendy issues regarding the-not-futureanymore education compared to the results of a research conducted among Yázigi teachers on how they are dealing with the present technology inside their classrooms. Moreover, core educational aspects have to be taken into consideration so that the main goal of education in post-modern times is preserved, therefore through updated means. No other business touches and changes the lives of almost everyone at one time or another” (CAIN, 2007). Therefore, being an academic coordinator is dealing with pedagogical and business aspects at the same time, things such as avoiding drop-outs, making sure students/customers are satisfied and remain loyal to the school, etc. This workshop aims at discussing the role of the academic coordinator as the one responsible for the pedagogical quality within Yázigi principles and also for leading a group of people and coordinating processes that are intrinsically related to the education business. We will debate actions that are pedagogically correct and have a good deal of marketing, which may help improve results related to drop-outs, re-enrollment, customers’ loyalty, and much more. • WorKSHoPS 15h40 – 17h10 ROOM 1 TECHNOLOGICAL EVOLUTIONS AND YÁzIGI’S PHILOSOPHY OF LEARNING ANd tEACHiNG: WHAt ArE tHE StAKES? Gina Bonomi Special Guest [email protected] In this workshop, we will start by presenting the main moments of technological evolution and how each phase reflects/affects the relationship man-machine, based on the studies by L. Santaella (1997, 2008) and A. Lemos (2003). When dealing with the relationship technology and society, important concepts, such as hybridization and irreversibility (P. Levy, 1999), will also be presented and discussed. Then, through several group activities, participants will be asked to reflect on how the last technological evolution, more humane in its very own nature, can have impact on the teaching/learning philosophy (view of education and view of language) embraced by the Yázigi organization. ROOM 2 “riCE ANd BEANS” or “CAViAr”… CAN WE GEt BotH? Célia Santos & Fernanda Fróes multi Holding – Yázigi ClA [email protected]; [email protected] Pedagogical Coordinators at Yázigi work hard in order to surprise students and teachers and make them satisfied. Sometimes it seems like we never do enough. What is missing? In a world where things come in too large portions, are we having difficulties to taste them all? What are the essential ingredients? Are we managing to select them well in order to prepare the best dish to our client? In this workshop, together with the participants, we will rescue what it is considered to be “rice and beans” and discuss when it is appropriated to offer “caviar”. We will also talk about the importance of raising students and teachers perceptions which are the right spices to the dishes we serve. So, why do you think eBooks, eBoards or any other piece of technology will save a bad lesson? This workshop will discuss how new technologies, by themselves, can’t change the scenario of poorly planned classes, underprepared teachers and outdated methodologies, but how these technologies can be extremely powerful tools when combined with new education concepts and practices. We will play with new technologies, but will also see that Innovation in Education does not depend on gadgets, but on teachers that are able to rethink their role in the 21st century classroom. ROOM 4 EFFECtiVE tEACHEr SElECtioN: StAr iNtErViEW tECHNiquE ANd tHE ASSESSMENT OF COMPETENCES Paola Guimaraens Salimen Yázigi Porto Alegre – menino deus/rS [email protected] The objective of this workshop is to present an alternative technique for carrying out interviews (the STAR - situation, task, action and result - model) during the teacher selection process. By using the STAR technique, Academic Coordinators will be able to analyze whether job applicants have the competences needed to be a Yázigi teacher, based on past behaviour. This approach has been broadly described in the HR literature (PONTES, SERRANO, 2005; CARVALHO, PASSOS, SARAIVA, 2008; BANOV, 2011; among others) and has been applied by many global companies to identify talented professionals. ROOM 5 “INSERVICE OPTIMIzED: TAKING BETTER CARE OF OUR TEACHERS” Ana Beatriz Cossermelli de Andrade Petriu & Julio Cesar Costa Batistella Yázigi taubaté/SP [email protected]; [email protected] How can teachers get more motivated, be more challenged and improve their teaching techniques altogether? This workshop presents and discusses some ideas and tools to optimize our Inservice Program. The presenters will show some actions based on leadership (Mario Sérgio Cortella, Eugênio Mussak and Brian Tracy) and the Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, which were taken at Yázigi Taubaté and how such actions have influenced the school’s results. Alongside with the ideas and tools, some good school results will be presented and the influence of the actions taken will be discussed. What accounted for such results? Are our teachers being well taken care of? We will find out how to promote more follow-up to our teachers’ performance, provide enhanced feedback and incentives and have more efficient and productive learning results with the lessons taught at our school. • CoFFEE-BrEAK ANd ViSit to PArAllEl ExHiBitioN 17h10 – 17h50 • PlENArY SESSioN 17h50 – 19h AUDITORIUM APrENdEr E ENSiNAr Num CoNtExto dE HiBridiSmo tECNolóGiCo diGitAl E multimodAlidAdE: umA PErSPECtiVA dE iNoVAÇÃo NA EduCAÇÃo? This phenomenon, according to RECUERO (2009) “is profoundly changing the forms of identity, organization, conversation and mobilization.” The way that Education should be seen in this context needs a special focus. Besides discussing the impacts on Education, the aim is showing the participants how Digital Social Networks can be used as a plural, diverse, open, flexible, net learning tool.
